The 1st five minutes of Indiana Jones and The Treasure of The Templar's is available to download over at the http://www.treasureofthetemplars.com website.

I've seen it and think it's rally quite good. I had the honour of meeting Ken last week on a film shoot unrelated to Indiana Jones and he's put a lot into this film, which can be seen with the amount of effort put into it.

I can't wait to see the final finished product. Can you?

brilliant. just brilliant. the most professional fan movie i've seen yet and the only one to be actually shot on film. if you know him in person (i can't really tell for sure from your post ;) ), would you mind asking him what size of film he uses and what it costs him? in germany, film is pretty expensive when you don't do it commercially, $20 for three minutes Super8. :(

apart from this, great action and great cuts, looks better than many commercial movies. anyway i think he should sell it when it's done. it looks very expensive and i'm sure people would buy it. :whip:

I was lucky enough to see the first part of the movie at the Indygear UK summit and also had the pleasure of meeting Ken there as well.

Ken is a great guy, and the footage that I saw completely blew me away! :D

Fantastic!

Hey Jay, Unfortunately due to the nature of the film (fan film) it is a non-profit movie and it canot be sold. Which is a shame because it is good. Ken didnt direct this movie although I am sure he had a hand in making it other than writing and starring in it.

I'll ask him what size of film they use for this movie then.

By the looks if it, it wasnt shot on a film camera, but a Canon XL1.

Jay R. Zay
04-11-2005, 12:06 AM
i'd be surprised if it was. a very shallow depth of field, remarkable colors and such a high range of contrast - i seriously don't think you could get this with video, not even with an ND filter and color correction.

Indy Smith
04-11-2005, 08:00 AM
This looks very much like a Canon XL1 to me:
http://www.treasureofthetemplars.com/production_gallery/california/california_production_photo_23.jpg
as does this:
http://www.treasureofthetemplars.com/production_gallery/california/california_production_photo_24.jpg

They take Digital video tapes.

Jay R. Zay
04-11-2005, 09:41 AM
yes this looks like an XL1.

hmmmm i find it VERY hard to believe... *if* it is one, this would be the better for me as i don't have to think about film, at least not necessarily until our german movie promotion agencies are willing to offer some money. at the current situation, you almost have to be spielberg to get the honor of getting some money. what's the use behind this? if your movies are successful enough, you don't need promotion to pay them, you've either got enough money or some company would be happy to pay.

just by the way. it makes me angry everytime i read how much money your movies have to bring until they help you... ;)

the Fiddler
04-13-2005, 03:21 PM
uhm, for one the screenshots dont look that freakin' amazing. yeah the color is great, but not like a full on film. I'm sure he did use a XL1 or XL1s as shown in the picutures. they do wonderful color reproduction with their 3 CCD setup. Not as good as film, but getting close.

Hello

My first post on the raven. Had some problems getting registration to work but all sorted now.

Thanks for all the kind comments about the film - credit must go Jonathan Lawrence, also a big Indiana Jones fan, who directed it and lent all of his equipment, expertise and enthusiasm - he really made this film happen and look the way it does... and also Paul Denton who built all the sets, got all the re-enactors together and worked tirelessly the entire time. Without these people there would be no film or if there was it would look awful. I owe a huge debt of thanks to these guys and can't wait to catch up with them again int he future.

We did shoot on XL1s and will be using XL2 as well in Scotland - the fact it looks so good is a testament to Jonathan Lawrence's ability.

Indy Smith - well well good to meet you online as well!! Cant wait to see how your own fan film works out and I would be honoured to help with it in any capacity that I can.

Will keep you updated on how things go or catch up with the site at www.treasureofthetemplars.com

All the best!!

Ken :)

We are hoping to be ready by the end of the year/start of 2006. We still have some filming to complete in CA, editing, composing/orchestra recording, etc... hopefully it will be worth the wait though.

Its been a really tough undertaking, but I think everyone has enjoyed themself overall and we are all really pleased with the results.

Ken, I wasn't be serious. In all honesty, I could never hope to put something together that looks that good. It really does look impressive. I was kidding when I made the remark about facial hair. It did look as though most of the shots had been taken in the same area so that also was a pun. I hope this works out for you and I would look forward to seeing it. Good luck!!!

I really really love these two new trailers for it. It’s hard to say from the DivX and the youtube compressions, but have you guys put / thought of putting the whole movie through after effects or Photoshop?...you may have done so allready...

I’ve done a few examples here below that take out the digital look (baring in mind that when you do that you have to lose a bit of detail) but you do gain a more celluloid look...

I have to say that the body movement on your actor whos playing Indiana Jones is brilliant, when hes fighting and running down hills he’s really moving like Harrison Ford does, its great.

I agree. I know its a fan film but couldn't someone who looks a little more like Harrison Ford been cast? After watching the trailer, it was apparent the actor playing Indy has zero screen presence. And I could barely understand one word he said during the entire trailer.

I fiddled with grading as well, but at the end of the day Jonathan will grade the movie, because the opening give minutes was graded and it looked awesome!

Just downloaded the first five minutes!...that is definitely graded yes. Looking very nice, maybe a tad contrasty here and there...but hell, I cannot talk...I find it a real nightmare deciding how far to push it with the curve, my mind literally goes insane with stuff like that…“is it too dark?...is it too light?...oh crap!.. I’ve spent the last five years of my life tweaking this thing!...”

I just want to say that if the filmmakers want these taken down, by all means tell me to, I had a thought about it in the car last night and suddenly realised that its maybe not such a good thing in that, they aren’t real publicity shots, and that’s maybe not such a good thing...not sure.

Dude, just watched your short Darkness...man that has some awesome shots / sequences...the sort of surveillance stuff with slowed down frame rate at the start is very nicely synched to the sound (sound on the whole thing is great btw), and the bit where the character slips after getting out of the bath is very well done, you really feel the impact...and the time lapse photography of the sky + the dolly shots just after it are really great...very smooth!

I can't speak for the filmmakers, but if it was me and my film I'd be honoured to have someone want to help things, even if you already had it covered. You're right about grading. I am grading a short film of mine called Sandwich and well the lighting ine one scene is a bit inconsistent so I have problems. argh. thankfully it might just be at the start of the movie 8crosses fingers8 and that by the end people may forgive me for some inconsistencies :D

I agree. I know its a fan film but couldn't someone who looks a little more like Harrison Ford been cast? After watching the trailer, it was apparent the actor playing Indy has zero screen presence. And I could barely understand one word he said during the entire trailer.

Yeah, lets spend forever trying to find someone that looks like Ford, like they did with Young Indy? :)

ken is actually pretty good Indy and yes i's the first acting he's done, but hey i've seen acting from people who call themselves actors and it isn't half as good as the acting in this. Anyway, at he end of the day do you want to have fun watching a film or do you want to watch some great acting, but a crap movie? ideally a good balance is needed at the end of the day, but I wouldn't call Templars unwatchable.

Hey guys, what's happened to this movie project? The site is still since a few months, when they were about to release the movie in may 2008. Now the forum has disappeared...

Fans from around the globe have called this epic motion picture the “true Indy 4.” (Thank you!) But because we are committed to only the best quality and entertainment value, we have been unable to complete the entire film by our May 22 deadline. However, in honor of our fans, here is the first action-packed 15 minutes! Enjoy - and be sure to let us know what you think.

I was watching the first 15 mins, and I noticed this, when it says they weren't able to finish by May 22, does that mean they aren't going to finish at all?

It's not so much looking like Indy as feeling like Indy.

And this actor, sadly, doesn't evoke the character at all. It's very difficult to step into a famous role, especially at the level of a fan film (even with good production values, as this has) and not be a disappointment.

Few manage to pull it off.

But take Jeffrey Quinn from star Trek new voyages. Doesn't look at all like Leonard Nimoy, but he "feels" like Spock. Granted, not everyone in that production does as good a job in standing in for their "real" counterparts.

Not to nitpick on his personal appearance (which is hardly fair), but he looks a little too skinny for Indy. When I first saw him, I honestly thought he was going to be a nerdy colleague, not actually Indy himself!

I agree, he doesn't seem to have much presence in the role, but Indy himself doesn't seem to be featured much in the trailer, anyway.

I think the actor playing the villain would have been a better choice, he seems like the strongest actor among them, from what little you can clean from the trailer.

There is some rough accent work from a few supporting characters.

On the plus side, the production values look great, some terrific costumes, props and locations. Not easy to pull off a period piece on a fan film budget, obviously, so kudos for that. It's hard to put a finger on the quality of the direction, given the rapid nature of the editing, so I'll hold forming any opinions based on the trailer.

The trailer doesn't really tease the story, I really don't know what it's about other than it involves the Templars and the baddie is someone Indy once hit with a pick axe.

Still, I think it's great an Indy fan film with this much care has been made and I will definitely check it out once completed.

very great. But the script was weak. And I liked Crystal Skull so that's sayin' something!;) The footage was very beutiful and whoever directed has talent. But some things just didn't work. and some action was ver VERY bad:(

But the film was still impressive for an Indee:up: :hat:
