There are all kinds of people here. Is there any guitar players here?
But this is only for the people that actualy can play the instrument. I do not want to hear a word from people that can play three chords, use heavy distorsion and call that music.
If you do not respect people like Joe Satriani, Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix then avoid this thread.

I make my living entertaining folks from behind an acoustic guitar...
But I don't much respect Satriani, or Hendrix...
Clapton is good in my book, when he's unplugged.... Mark Knophler is better... Don Ross is like unto a God... Martin Barre is m' boy!
"play three chords, use heavy distorsion and call that music"
The Ramones and The Clash are 2 of the best things that ever happened to music...

If you want to talk about actual music there are two names that have to be respected but not the ones you named.
Jimi Hendrix
Freddy Mercury

I agree with you, qwerty. But I believe it's "Freddie", not "Freddy" :)

I play guitar...but it seems your more into the eletric guitar sound. As much as I respect the artists you mention give me some Jesse Cook on the acoustic guitar and then try to tell yourself you are good at playing guitar. First man I've seen play flight of the bumblebee on an acoustic guitar without missing a beat.

IndyJohan... look up Don Ross... Jessie Cook abso-frigg'n-lootly rocks, but Don makes him look like he's standing still! :-)

Oh my Lord! I agree with this guy for once... Let's not forget Link Wray, Dick Dale, The Reverend Horton Heat, and Rick Miller from SCOTS. That's "real music!"
As far as Jimi goes... the best thing he had going for him was being left handed. I can drop acid and screw around with feedback and a wah pedal too, that doesn't make me a talented musician.

I play guitar, although I'm not very good at it (however, I do know more than three chords).;)
There are a lot of great players out there but The Edge (U2) has to be my favorite, hands down. I watched him play at their Atlanta concert last month and he does some mind-blowing stuff. He's incredible.

Hey ClintonHammond I looked up Don Ross but I can not find any of his music on the web. I found a tab for song Afraid To Dance and it seems to me that the guy has some skills. He also knows how to use alternative tunings. But still I cannot find any of his music. Can you help me with that?

I can play a couple songs on my guitar, but I'm still learning.
I play guitar and sing. Pete Townshend is my guitar hero so, naturally,
my style is a lot like his. My Fender Telecaster is in the shop right now
getting some wiring fixed so I am forced to use my imitation Rickenbaker.
I also have a Yamaha acoustic, a 12-string acoustic and a 5-string banjo
(which I still can't play very well). Plus, I have 2 electric bass guitars but
the Tele will always be my baby.
Cool to know there are so many other guitarists here!

Hey Stoo how does it feel to play that 12 string guitar. I have never played it but I have heard it. It must be like playing two guitars at the same time. At least it is that noisy.

I play guitar. I love everything from the Beach Boys to Van Halen. Cheap Trick, Benatar, The Knack, Kinks, etc. The problem is that I suck at it, but it sure is fun.
I have an early 80's Kramer Baretta w/ Floyd Rose tremelo and maple neck - one pickup and one volume knob that is always at 10; an Epiphone Dot 335 with Gibson Classic 57 pickups and Grover tuners, and a Gibson Les Paul Studio with gold hardware and 490R and 498T pickups and Schaller locking tuners. Played through a Marshall MG30DFX or a Galleon Kruger 250 ML
I can drop acid and screw around with feedback and a wah pedal too, that doesn't make me a talented musician.
If that is all you think Hendrix is doing then you haven't listened very well. Well his style may not be for everyone, you cannot deny the impact he has had - still has - on music.

Nice players. Parise. And you're right, Rick, I just like being a wisea$$. Left-handed guitar players are awesome.:p
Hey Stoo how does it feel to play that 12 string guitar. I have never played it but I have heard it. It must be like playing two guitars at the same time. At least it is that noisy. For the fullest, jingle-jangle sound there's nothing sweeter. Just lay your fingers
down and let the strings do the talking. It makes you sound better than you
actually are! One warning, though...it sure is a pain in the tucas to tune when
putting new strings on.
Rick5150 re:
Beach Boys, Van Halen, The Kinks, The Knack...that's the stuff...love'em all...
Oh, and you are absolutely right about Hendrix's abilities. He was incredible.

You're 13 and into Blues guitar? Impressive, IndyParise!
Indy re:
Keep plugging away and you get better each day without even realizing it.:)
Dave "The Edge" Evans almost single-handedly created a whole new sound
and (apart from Eddie Van Halen) was definitely The Most Imitated Guitarist
in the '80s. Yes, he is good. One guitarist with some awesome licks is that
guy who was in Rage Against Machine. Now, that's HOT!

His name is Tom Morrello. He kicks a$$. Out of all the guitar players that you can find on MTV he is the best.
He is in the Audioslave now.
