Any body watch The Junior Hockey Games? Canada slaughtered Russia 5-0 to take the gold! U.S. lost to the Finland 4-2 for the bronze medal game. Junior hockey is huge in Canada, I'm not sure how big it is elsewhere.

ME ME ME ME ME!!!
I unfortunately didn't pay enough attention this year, so I couldn't give you the specific stuff on the game, players etc., but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Who is responsible for all the Russia vs. Canada games?

Its ok. Its Canada's National Passtime. We were born on ice. We skate before we walk. This tounament is as big for us as the Olympic Hockey tournament, and bigger than the NHL.

We were born on ice.
What does that look like?
Your mother just pops you out and you slide over the ice.
No wonder there is so many adventurous Canadians around here.

Kind of like that Ewan McGregor film "Big Fish" where he was telling the story of his birth and he shot out of his mother and slide all the way down the hall. :D
I'm more than happy over Finland's bronze medal, since we certainly didn't have the most skilled material this year around. I guess most thanks goes to our superb goalie who shone at least in the quarter-final (53 saves to a shutout) and also, the fighting spirit our "Little Lions" (the nickname we've given to our U20 national team) in the bronze game as they were playing with only 4 defenders supported by one forward who played as a defenseman.
Can't wait for the Olympics.

Your Finns goalie had a great tournament. Canada were the underdogs as we only had 1 returning face from last year, the rest were rookies to the tourny.
The Olys will be interesting. Everybody in Canada was cheering for them to win bronze.

Speaking of hockey, remember the infamous USA-Russia hockey game of 1980? The movie Miracle didn't cover it quite right. How about this?
CSM: "What I don't want to see is the Bills winning the Super Bowl. As long as I live that doesn't happen."
MIB 3: "Could be tough, sir. Buffalo wants it bad."
CSM: "So did the Soviets in '80."
MIB 3: "What, you saying you rigged the Olympic hockey game?"
CSM: "What's the matter? Don't you believe in miracles?" ---
LYDON: The boss gave the Russian goaltender a pre-game good luck pat on the back... unseen novocaine needle on a bogus wedding ring. Goalie's a little slow on the stick side... four-three, home team.
(Jones looks at the Cigarette-Smoking Man with respect and a bit of awe.)
CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN: Payback's a b****, Ivan.
60 nerd points for the first person who tells me what this is from (hint: just use Google if you're lazy)

I'll be nice and give you 50. ;)
I'm not sure of the season, actually, but the episode was "Musings of a Cigarette-Smoking Man." It's actually one of the first episodes I saw, since I've only been watching it for a little over a year.

go finland! Canada blew it! Ah well, at least the Women TOTALLY blew everyone out of the water....
You've just been waiting for this haven't you Finn??
Well, Canada just wasn't convincing in the preliminaries to begin with. They even lost to Switzerland.
Of course, usually all that matters is to play the QF game well, but today wasn't their day.
Finns indeed seem to be a powerhouse for change. The only unbeatable team left in the tournament, six wins, no ties, no losses, four shutouts and only five goals allowed this far, none of them while 5 on 5. They seem a strong enough contender even for the gold this time around. Of course, Russia and Czechs do too.
The only team I don't trust to be up to it are the Swedes... their game's been pretty lame and the only reason they're in the semis is the incredible stroke of luck by getting to face the Swiss in the QFs. It's a shame that the Czech had to play the Slovaks, both should have been in the medal games.
It's going to be interesting medal round overall. Canada not being there can almost be considered a fresh change.

You have to watch OLN, TSN or CBC to watch the games. God damn it! I hate Espn! They dropped the NHL! NBC shows games on Saturdays in the afternoon! But if your really into the game like me you'll buy the NHL Center Ice package to get all the games!;)
Congrats to Canada on the gold medal victory. Now only this was two months ago, laserbrain. :whip:

No, when you talk abotu gold this time of hte year, and Finn your comment about bye bye north america, I like to point out the massive amount of gold your finnish have brouht home this olympics . . . well, zero at this point . . .Sure we will give you a meaningless hockey game, but lets see the world stage, I think North America is doing all right in the Big Games, even though we are not a cold weather country!

As far as the rest of events go, my hat's off to the US athletes. They've deserved every medal they've got.

The USA has more athletes competing in the games than any other nation - it stands to reason they have a better chance of winning more medals. Just a thought...
