I think they cut out the bookends that featured him in the original episodes. I'm sure someone else here can explain it better but I know something similar to that happened.

They filmed a short bookend with George Hall for each episode when it aired on ABC for sure. I believe they did so for all of them, including Mystery of the Blues, where they shot another bookend with Harrison Ford of course. The original bookend was seen only once in the UK and Finland. http://www.indianajones.de/youngIndy/texte/ford.php

For the VHS releases, Lucas wanted to realigned the episodes according to their chronology. Each episode was filmed as a 2 hour movie (90 mins), but when aired on ABC, the episodes were split up into 45 minute segments. George Hall's bookend was on those. The show was cancelled after one season, but Lucas continued to film the episodes, striking a deal with the Family Channel. The episodes that aired on it were aired complete, such as Mystery of the Blues. I think the bookends were on those too. On the VHS though, each episode was to be treated as intended, 90 min. full length. So the bookends were cut, except for the Harrison Ford appearance in Mystery of the Blues (they aren't crazy!)

A lot of people hold the bookends at arm's length. Lucas clearly has no love for them. In my opinion they weren't very good and didn't make much sense as part of the series. However, it would be nice to see them included on the DVD's as an extra, which probably won't come out until late 2007 at best. The one thing that continues to anger me with Lucas is his non-stop revisionism. What he did in putting young Anakin's face over that of Sebastian Shaw's on the DVD of Return of the Jedi was movie blasphemy. I will never buy those DVD's until they either change that back, or offer the original versions of the movies.

I found the bookends interesting actually. I always wondered how much they really reflected old Indy's life and timeline though.

So I guess that a few seconds destroys an entire movie. I mean "Blasphemy", Com on it's a freeakin movie not the bible.

I didn't say blasphemy, I said "movie blasphemy," sorry.

It's the principle of it, not simply the content. I am not a fan of the prequel Episodes of Star Wars, and that is fine. GL replaced the ESB emperor with Ian McDirmid, okay fine for continuity. He also replaced some of the spoken lines of Darth Vadar with new lines from James Earl Jones, well alright. But interjecting Hayden Christensen into ROTJ I have to draw the line. Again I think he's abusing the DVD medium by continually fudging with the movies. DVD can be used on older films when remastering, or adding missing scenes, commentary, behind the scenes, retrospectives, promos, etc. Altering the film should not be done. And if so they should offer the unedited version.

i think they should offer unedited version of the Indiana Jones trilogy. That would be awesome!!!!

The only edit was in Raiders, they got rid of the snake's reflection on the unseen glass between it and Harrison, in the Well of the Souls. Otherwise nothing was changed, as it should be. Really the only things they should change are instances where there is a visual or audible mistake in filming, or if the special effects look cheesy.
