Which action sequence did you enjoy the most and why?

Interestingly enough, the last time we had this poll, I voted for LC's Tank chase. This time around I went for Raider's Trunk chase.
In some ways, the fights are similar: Indy starts on a horse, eventually jumps on a vehicle, and knocks a bunch of heads.
However, the Raider's chase is Indy at his best for the film, where I actually think the motorcycle chase is Indy at his best in LC. Sure, Indy gets shot. He battles pain, a stubborn Nazi, and tries to drive all at the same time. Plus, the end rather shows off Indy's strengths. The man he is fighting is put into the same situation Indy was just put in, but he fails. Dr. Jones knows how to get out of trouble. :whip:
EDIT: By "best", I mean in the sense of combat, not archaeology :p

My favorite is the Flying wing sequence. I just love when Indy fights the big German.
Also, I didn't realize that this is a former thread...but mines better.

I honestly can't choose. I like every choice up there and they all have their own strengths. The mine cart chase has always been a favorite of mine and I love the sense of speed that scene creates. The battle on the tank is wonderful and the truck chase in Raiders is perfect. They all help show who Indy is and what he's capable of.
I like them all and I don't think I can narrow it down to just one. If there were an "All of the above" option, then I'd vote.:whip:

All the action scenes are awesome, but I was first hooked when Indiana Jones cracked the gun out of the guide's hand at the beginning of Raiders. I think it was then that I felt the beginning of something great. :whip:
The mine car chase in ToD. To me it's the best action sequence in ANY film, not just among the Indiana Jones movies. It's great because it's innovative, it's different, and really gives the feel of a roller coaster. There isn't anything cliched about it.

I think I did the opposite of Adventurer up there. I voted for the tank this time and last time it was the truck. It's very close; ask me on a different day and I might have changed my mind again. The mine car and the motorbike chases are pretty good too.
It's funny someone mentioned they played the truck chase on their bed. My brother and I had bunk beds with a ladder on the side so it was perfect for hanging off of and it also had a dresser at the foot end with three wide drawers and we could open the bottom one and pretend we were hanging on to the front of the truck. But more than anything else we played Jaws and made the bunk beds the Orca.

The idol sequence at the beginning of RotLA is my favorite. Not only is it a great combination of action and drama (with hints of comedy), it also is a preview of what is to come in the remainder of the movie and those to follow. It's not often a movie starts with a scene as great as this (or ends with it for that matter!).

I miss the Basket Game from RoTLA, especialy the beginning of it (when Indy cries: "Marion, get out of here! Duck!") All the scenes are beautiful so I just cannot choose only one of them.

I'd have to say the opening Idol sequence in Raiders is my favorite. Its got a whole lot of stuff, and it's just fun to watch. Its really the one everyone remembers. May not be the favorite, but when one imitates raiders, they always start dodging invisible darts and running away from giant boulders... :whip:

Honorable mention also goes to the whole Young Indiana Jones sequence in "Last Crusade". Isn't it great to see him as a kid, having an escapade which portrays the character qualities and peculiarities that he is noted for?
He's comfortable yet cautious in the cave and then he hurriedly stumbles out...he humorously mistimes jumping on his horse, yet has equitation skills, he falls into the railcar full of snakes, thus his overdeveloped fear of snakes. He finds a bullwhip useful facing a lion and acquires the scar on his chin...the exciting succession of these events show how he took shape, and he was even crowned with a fedora:whip:

I don't see what's so special about the Tank sequence. Okay, so he leaps onto a tank from a horse, very cool, but what else does he do? He is nearly choked by a Nazi colonel, barely avoids getting crushed by a wall of land, and almost lets his dad fall under the tank. That's THREE times during the Tank showdown Indy had to rely on someone else to come to the rescue. The truck chase in Raiders, now THAT was an awesome sequence. Indy kicked everyone's ass all by himself.
PS - you forgot about the boat chase sequence outside of the library in the Last Crusade.

My favorite is the flying wing fight,Indy taking out his anger of dealing with all those "snakes" and his prized ark being taken. He beats up the smaller german mechanic no problem, but the big mechanic(also the henchman in the last part of the bar sequence) is just to much for him,and i might add that if the propeller did not come around this mechanic would have beat his brains out  ...But indy always has luck on his side, :gun:

You know, its kind of sad that on all of these "What's Youre Favorite?" Threads, Raiders always seems to get the majority of votes. I mean, Temple of Doom and Last Crusade are popular too, but when it comes to fan's loves-and-hates of the series, these sequels are contantly getting the bad rap just for not matching the originality or the spunk of Raiders. My favorite film is Last Crusade, both for the fact that it was my first Indy film and that I fell in love with Connery's Henry Sr. (I hope that didn't sound like a gay comment. Oops!) :o I think that Raiders lovers should give just a teeny-weeny bit more consideration for LC's and TOD's merits, instead of condemning them for merely being sequels or not matching their perfect visions of Indy 2 and 3.
I'm sorry if I sound selfish, opinionated, or harsh in my entry here; I am just merely trying to help the reputation of the other two films and hopefully create a few more fans and happy viewers along the way. Please try to take time to consider my comments.

I can't choose!!! Well, I already did, but it was between Flying Wing in Raiders, Motorcycle Chase in LC (which I chose, I just love watching and playing it on my bike!), Club ObiWan in ToD (my second choice, if any), the Bridge Cutting in ToD, or the boat chase in LC (other). They're all good, even those I didn't list above... :gun:

I chose the Idol sequence at the beginning.
I don't know, I think it helps to have some of the most recognizable and coolest parts of not only the franchise, but all of film history, in like 10 minutes of so.

Truck chase is good but the beginning "Idol" sequence is our first view of Indy and a defining moment in movie history. You will see this sequence spin off on way more movies than the truck sequence.

What a tough choice. The Raiders truck chase has always been a favourite, great soundtrack to go with that sequence too, but I suppose it has to be the idol scene, purely because its the first glimpse of Indy and its such a breathtakin intro to a film.

Tank chase in last crusade!
I love the parts with Henry and Marcus dwadling like old people in that tank!
And then Sallah taking off his hat to greet Henry, while riding the horse next to the tank.
But the idol-sequence comes second and airplane crash third.

The tank scene and the truck chase are my favorites. Great stuntwork, incredible music, special effects. I would say that, for me, the tank wins it. Very similar scenes - but you get to see that nasty Colonel get what's coming to him. More rewarding. Plus it has both Ford and Connery. Great scene.

I like the tank chase in Last Crusade, but its not nearly as good as the truck chase in Raiders. The music and the action are so much more memorable.
Also, the in the truck chase, the Nazis never do anything stupid. There's never a moment where you're going "Why don't they just....", unlike the tank chase, where the Nazis inexplicably start to jump at Indy one by one with fists and knives instead of shooting him.

Im gonna say the idol sequence because it is just classic Indy. When he is about to take the idol, when he has to run with arrows almost hitting him, and most of all when he is chased by the boulder.

Agree. The opening scene of Raiders is my favorite. But I was wondering...was Raiders the first film to have a sequence like that? These days, lots of adventure movies and shows have the scene where they're looking for something in a boobytraped cave. Was Raiders the first to do this?

i would have gone with the idol scene except that it isnt the most actionistic one.... if that makes sense.
it may well be the most Indyesque one though.. that or the Church of the Canyon of the Crecent Moon (or as i like to think of it, Our Lady of Perpetual Isolation)
so i went with the Tank Chase, but the Boat Chase, the Truck Chase, and the Motocycle Chase are all very very close seconds

Like most all of Raiders,(the flying wing) is as perfect a scene as you can get. Hitting all the right notes, action, comedy, suspense, drama, plot, cameos,etc... Steven brought his "A"game to this scene. It is masterfully designed and John Williams score is burned into my brain. I hope for a scene half as good as this in the new movie and I will be happy. :whip:

The tank chase...
thats "orchestral action", things happens everywhere around indy, dramatic and hilarious from a second to the other. Great climax!... the tank jumping blindly from the cliff. Wonderful epilogue!... Father & Son realising how much they love each other... in their way.

I voted for Idol sequence. But Raven bar, flying wing, and truck chase are all close 2nd (3rd and 4th).
When you see the list posted like that it is clear to me the Raiders action sequences are far superior to the other 2 movies.
Of the non-raiders choices, I probably would have picked the cutting bridge scene in TOD.
I am kinda surprised that only 1 person (so far) voted for Raven bar scene. Can you really tell me that a goofy tank chase scene is better??

This was a really tough one. To start with, all of the action sequences are the best (I mean it's Indy right?). But the two that I had a hard time choosing between are the truck chase and the plane fight. They really give you the feeling that he's taking a beating, but will stop at nothing. I think the truck chase is one of the greatest chase/road scenes ever. But I think the plane fight is THE greatest cinema fight ever. It just has so many great elements to it. Indy gets the tar whooped out of him but keeps coming back harder. The moving plane, Marion trapped inside, the leaking fuel, the nazi troops. The sound effects and music are the greatest in cinema history. I've always loved how Indy kind waves of the mechanic as he's getting picked up like, "I know, I know, gimme a second". Those last few few punches Indy throws before the mechanics demise are pure fury. They get me all fired up. As great as the others are, especially the truck chase. I think the plane fight is the essence of Indy. Then the way it segues into the truck chase. "Truck? What truck?" And going after an armed military convoy on a white horse? That's what makes indy the best. I guess in retrospect I consider the whole plane fight/truck chase one whole segment. I guess thats why they're both so great.:whip:

Truck chase... followed closely by the mine carts.
I just now rewatched the Tank chase and I'm struck by how sloppy the whole sequence is. Just awful--unclear action in the confrontation between Vogel and Indy, a horribly glaring jump cut in that same sequence and that gratingly annoying, misplaced comic relief by Denholm Elliot. What a mess.

I voted the Raven bar fight. As a kid, I remembered the big action scenes and that one pretty much faded from memory (save for Toht burning his hand; I LOVED that part). But it really is a great gun fight and something like that has yet to be redone in any of the Indy films. I hope there's a gun fight in KotCS.
