Given the wide range of ages, nationalities, etc, on this forum, I was curious as to everyone's first memories of Indiana Jones. Personally, I was 6 or 7 when Raiders came out. My mother had promised to take my brother and I, and I was terrified that we'd be late. I pestered her to the point that I almost didn't get to go. Seeing it in the theater was one of my most treasured childhood memories.
I saw ToD and played FoA when I was 7 back in '95.

I've been a fan of Indy ever since I can remember. I watched the movies constantly as a child and as I grew older I began playing the video games, reading the books and collecting Indy-related items.
A very fond memory occurred back in January when a local theater here in Nashville showed Raiders on the big screen. Someone here alerted me to it (for which I'm extremely thankful) and it was wonderful for start to finish. The film was grainy and the theater was old but all of those things combined just made for a very authentic and fun evening. I'm just hoping that I get the chance to see the other two films on the silver screen as well.:whip:

I was 21 when Raiders of the Lost Ark came out. Knowing very little about it beforehand, I went with some friends to see it at the great Cinema theatre in Marin one night that summer. The experience was the Unsurpassed Amazement Ever:whip:

I bet that added to the 'old serial' feel. That sounds awesome.

The first Indy experience I had was watching Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom when I was around 7/8/9. It was the very first Indy film I ever saw. Sadly never saw any at the cinema.
I am somewhat embarrassed to say that I didn't see Raiders for the first time until I was 12.

Ah, but twelve must be a great age to see it for the first time.

My first Indy film was Temple of Doom. I saw it when I was 10 as a double feature with The Last Crusade. For some reason, I never saw Raiders until sometime after.

The first I saw was Last Crusade at three years old. It encouraged me to watch the YIJC on tv and was a bit of an Indyfan. This escalated one night when I was nine and ToD was on. When I saw the first close up of HF I realised he was the same guy as Han Solo and loved the movie. It all started right there. I saw Raiders a year later, when Mum for my birthday bought me all three films.

I have a vague recollection of Raiders coming out in 1981, as I was eight years old. However, the first time that I saw this movie was when I was around twelve. I remember really enjoying Raiders and even back then thinking that Harrison was a dreamboat. :o :D
It all really started for me on a summer's evening back in 1989 when I got to see Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade at the cinema. After that evening, my whole life changed. I was a 16 year old, completely bestotted not only with Harrison Ford but also the character of Indy. From that moment onward, I began to start collecting any Indy memorabilia that I could lay my hands on, and about three years ago, I began to start collecting Indy gear and now 17 years later, here I am.
I sometimes wish that my parents had taken me to see Raiders when it came out, but I guess they thought that I would have been too young at the time.

Here's another old memory. Prepare yourself for strange. A friend guided me through this fun park. We came to a door at the back of a large faded green pastel warehouse. He opened the steel door and we snuck in. It was very dark but dimly lit by some light through the walls. I can still see the route we took to the left up some wood and steel stairs. We snuck along quietly...black felt loosly-curtained a maze of walls of hallways built from steel pipe and we went right around a corner and I'm glad to say passed a small, even-darker room that had a mattress on the floor! We kept going up and along, and in order to get to certain points, we climbed up and down a system of scaffolds across the whole area. There was a sound from a distance of eerie music that had spacey effects. It echoed throughout with a mysterious breeze that chilled me. We were high up and I thought "I'm taking a-hell-of-a-chance on this surreal adventure!". But I was pumped.
On the wood walkway, we came to a dead-end of black curtain that draped down. My friend went up to it, kneeled down and carefully pulled open a section of felt. He looked through and down and stared for a few moments and a golden light flickered up on his face. I pause here, remembering the impressiveness. My friend smiled, held up the curtain, and stood back for me to come closer and see. I crouched and looked down into...well, that's right! It WAS The Well...of Souls! It was the actual scence of Indy and Salah lifting The Ark.
Believe me, it was a thrilling experience. It was so realistic...yet surrealistic...we were at the top entrance to the Well of Souls, in a strange warehouse:confused: What a rush! I don't think many have seen this - THIS way. I wish you could have been there too. We took it in, practically intoxicated:whip:
We carefully worked our back though the maze and snuck out to the park and back to our jobs. The park was Disney/MGM Studios, where we spieled shows at Inside the Magic. We had met there. I had been going to auditions for a job at The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, and when he found out that I was a big Indy fan we became friends. He offered to lead me to the Well of Souls scene at The Great Movie Ride.
That's it basically. One of my precious Indy memories.

My first memory was walking into the theater when it was originally released and seeing the huge theater display that they had set up in the lobby. That thing was great. The movie was even better! :D

1989 when my mom won the box set from one of the local radio stations at the time. I was five or six at the time and I have since watched the trilogy too many times to count. Particulary the Last Crusade.

I grew up in Northern Michigan and we had 2 theatres in town.
When new movies were released it took several weeks until they arrived at our theatres.
My parents and sister had taken a shopping trip to Green Bay and saw Raiders while they were there.
They told me the movie was great and that we would go see it when it arrived in town.
When the movie arrived in town, I was very excited. I was 9 at the time. I had invited my freind and his 8 yr old brother to spend the night at our house and to go see Raiders.
My freinds older sister told their mom that there is a scene where ppls faces melt.
So she would not allow them to see Raiders.
As a result. I went to see Raiders with my sister. My freind and his brother went to see On Golden Pond. We met outside the theaters afterwards.
Can you believe that? ON GOLDEN POND? Imagine being 9yrs old and being forced to see that movie instead of Raiders. I recently tried to watch that movie and couldnt make it past the 1st 15 minutes...and I am 34 now!!
Of course...the rest of the night all I did was talk about Raiders...
