:whip: Whats up guys, I've seen a lot of threads on favorite movies, and least favorite movies. I really needed to post a proponent thread for every movie.

The fact is, that none of them, to me, are the best. Every Indiana Jones film jams in another part of an ongoing puzzle, of what Indiana Jones is supposed to be.

Raiders introduces us to our beloved hero for the first time, setting ground rules for his personality, his history with Marion, Abner, Markus, Sallah, and Belloq. It shows his weaknesses (however small), and his strengths. It builds Indiana into the most memorable hero in history. Rife with danger and booby traps, this movie defines not only indy, but what an adventure film should strive to be. I think my favorite part is that Indy underestimates himself. He actually believes he is "but a shadowy reflection" of Belloq. This couldn't be farther from the truth, because Indy would never stand up and be counted among the scum of the universe, the Nazi's. One of my favorite lines is in this movie as well. "You wanna talk to God? Lets go see him right now."

Temple of Doom is a sensitive subject among indyfans. Unfortunately it is one of the most underrated films in history as well. Some dont like Temple of Doom, but I think that it is yet another essential piece in the puzzle, and just as good as Raiders. It compounds my love for the series. This movie is a little edgier, pitting Indy not only against an unspeakable evil, but also against himself. It also gives a new dimension with Short Round. I saw a post saying that this was no better than a Sitcom, with its slapstick comedy. If i'm not mistaken, thats grounds for being thrown into the pit of fire without your heart in your chest. The comedy in this movie is good, because its all in the conversations. Its all about the interactions between the characters, and there are a few physical jokes in there as well. However, there was in Raiders as well.

Ah, another sensitive subject among fans is The Last Crusade. Again, it compounds my love for Indiana Jones, in giving him yet another dimension with his Father. I also love it because they bring back Sallah. It has clever comedy, and disguises Elsa as a Nazi as well. I simply love Indy's dad, as he is the quirkyness of everyones father. Everyone has a father with certain tendencies you dont understand. Some say that Crusade is a carbon copy of Raiders, but the only similar thing I can see is the deserts, the Nazis, and the fact that the bad guy is in with the scum. However, this man is a buisness man. He is also portrayed to be a good guy at first. He is NOTHING like Belloq... so tell me... where is the similarity? My favorite part of this movie is the insight we are given into Indy's past. It's just fun, and thats all I have to say about that.

Apart from all of this deep thinking, the thing I love most about the entire series is the Adventure. Every one of them defines the genre. They are simply fun movies to watch, over and over and over again. The only movie I've watched about as much as the Indiana Jones films is Jurassic Park.

Thats about a hundred and twenty times all figured.

The last piece in the puzzle will be Indy four. Will it be good? Nobody can really know... but I believe it will fit right into the enormous puzzle that is Indiana Jones. I am extremely grateful its taken so long to make, because that means that it will be painstakingly and lovingly made to fit the puzzle its being made for. Lucas and Speilberg are sparing nothing to make the script perfect. Once you've got that in an Indy film, its basically already in the can. (can being film can, not trash can).

Wonderful post fortuneandglory! You've only been here a few days and already you've posted some of the most interesting and thought-provoking threads that I have read in a long time. I think you're going to be a real asset around here.:)

I agree with just about everything you said above. I love all three films and each one has something different to offer but they all help show us who Indy is and what he's capable of. I had never thought of looking at them as a "puzzle" but that's a great way to explain it. Each film is great on its own but when put together they give us a much bigger and more epic look at Indy as whole.:whip:
