View Full Version : Mass Complaining

I'm not sure if anyone has this problem with the Raven or if it's just me. We have some colorful members here that often find fault with a thread. This causes the poster to defend the post, then someone's mother gets insulted and the whole thread blows up. Unfortunately, these things often kill good threads, as the few who try to post their opinions on the thread's purpose get drowned out by bickering. :(

Don't get me wrong, I personally love reading some of these arguments, and they probably take up the greatest percentage of posts around here. I just think that maybe these complaints could be diverted somewhere else so that the intent of the thread can play out to its fullest.

Any thoughts, comments, suggestions, or support?

EDIT: Ironically, I'm complaining right now, but that's beside the point. :p

Probably the best solution is for everyone on the board to try to stay on point and not get sucked in when the inevitable happens. But it is inevitable, and trying to moderate it would make things worse. My advice is just do your own part in trying to avoid this crap.

What about when/if someone complains about your complaining???

LOL

Then the world explodes, and nobody will be around to complain about that. Except certain micro-organisms, and maybe some slime.

Perhaps the management should just arbitrarily eliminate any discussion that becomes vaguely contentious...in the spirit of preserving free speech, of course. ;)

Granted, some might argue that this policy is already in the initial phases of implementation around here. :p

Well, I've been gone for a little while for just these reasons. I ran over to the Sega of America forums for a bit.

Wouldn't be the first time.

You know if some of the members (and former) could grow up a little bit and monitor their own posts and perhaps think more before they post. Frankly I get tired reading posts that are petty bickering.

"monitor their own posts"
Ya... that'll happen.... cause people are soooo good at policing themselves....

"I get tired reading posts that are petty bickering"
Seems to me, that is part and parcel with being a mod.

"He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother."

I'm beginning to understand why Canyon's questionnaire asked for dislikes and phobias.

The problem is it only takes two people going at it to bury those trying to actually participate in the given topic. One might say that you should just block their posts, except often all of our members have something good to say.

It's almost like we need a parallel forum where for each topic there is the same topic, only just filled with bickering on the subject. :p
