Ford, who is joining Shrinking after lengthy negotiations, will play Dr. Phil Rhodes, a down-to earth, sharp as a tack “blue collar shrink,” blunt but with an ever present twinkle. Phil is a pioneer in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy who has built a successful practice over the years that he shares with his two young proteges, Jimmy and Gaby. Fiercely independent, Phil has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, which forces him out of his comfort zone as he grapples with intrusive friends, his estranged family and his legacy.
The producer, on Ford:
He’s so far been amazing. I was thinking about it, and he’s always been funny. He’s funny in Indiana Jones, he’s funny in all of his work, he’s naturally funny. He’s not done a straight comedy before, and you’ll have to ask him, but I think he’s loving it, and he’s so funny. When we did the first read-through, he was just killing the room. It was amazing. I think he’s just so excited that he gets to do a proper comedy, because from what it seems to me, I think he’s always wanted to do one, and never quite had the chance. So, it’s amazing to have this man at his age and with his talent, to be able to do something new. It’s very cool.

My prognosis: There will be no Season 2. Episode 1 is trivial. Boring. Not funny.
And this is coming from a looooongtime Ford-Fan.

And: Ford looks ten years older than in the "Indy 5"-Trailer. Of course the 1969-Scenes. ;-)

Not sure a season 2 is planned. Most Apple+ originals are one and done seasons.

Ford character has Parkinson’s.

Its finding its feet now, ep 3 was pretty good, Ford is great in it. They use him much better in this than 1923. 1923 has been abit disappointing compared to 1883 so far. Fords character and arc has been one of the weakest parts of the show. Not Fords fault, hes trying his best with weaker material.

Haven’t seen 1923 but agree 100% with your assessment of Shrinking and Ford’s performance. I don’t like most of Apple+’s content but their quality and artistic direction is better than most.

Shrinking has some super tight writing and all these stereotypical contemporary characters that somehow seem fresh.

I put Shrinking as my second favorite Apple + show behind Mosquito Coast.

I've been catching up with this, and it does make you remember how great Ford is, doesn't it! He nails every line and does it in such a way that it looks like he's putting no effort into it. He's so natural. Although I enjoy the show I'm kind of always waiting for Ford's next appearance, but I guess that's the Indy fan in me :D If there's not some sort of Emmy nom for him I'll be a bit disappointed though.

I also love the lady playing Gabby: I've not seen her before but she's brilliant. Very beautiful too.

On the road, Ford sang Some Enchanted Evening in American Graffiti, and Home on the Range in Temple of Doom (which we'll probably never hear). Here's Every Morning by Sugar Ray (1999).
