Gotta disagree - love BTTF part 2. i know it's flawed, but I love all the revisiting the first movie from a different perspective stuff ,and the eerie premonition as they show us all our futures with Biff growing into a Trump-esque monster. I find it the most enjoyable of the three!
The 1955 material is the strongest part of the movie. The idea of going back into a previous movie's events was definitely clever. The rest of it is either outright bad (the 2015 material) or annoying/mediocre (alt 1985.) But the movie is just a lot of business and plot without any of the heart, emotion and character of the first film.

Funny, I actually view it the same way, however that’s thanks to how far apart Crystal and Dial are from the original trilogy.

I’m glad we got Crystal and Dial because those 2 films are probably the most unique in the entire series thanks to the era and age of the character. I can highly assure you we will never see Indy in the 50s and 60s again. Any sort of media, whether tv show or games, will likely delve in Indy’s prime (1930s/40s), which makes the later 2 films all the more unique.

I just love all of it TBH. The conversation here inspired me to watch all three this weekend with my 10 year old - he'd never seen them before and I hadn't watched them in a LOOONG time, and we had a blast. All three are so enjoyable, and - even through it wasn't planned as a trilogy - parts 2 and 3 do an amazing job of making it FEEL like it was always supposed to be three films. I don't agree that 2 has no heart, the exposition is delivered in quite a knowing way in all three films, they're sort of deliberately, comically overly complex, part 2 is clearly the most complicated but this never distracts from the fun, for me at least. I don't put these films under the microscope as much as I do the Indy series, so it was nice to just watch them and get carried along with the breezy humour and adventure.

As terrible as it is? The movie was highly acclaimed…
Where? I haven't heard any real praise for The Incredibles 2. I watched both movies last year and the first one holds up as a masterpiece while the second merely exists.

It got pretty good reviews at the time, but it's all but vanished from the pop culture conversation/memory.

I remember thinking it was okay while I was watching it, I was a little disappointed when it was over and have really never thought about it since.

Then again, I always thought the first one was overrated, anyway. YMMV.

I'm not going to get into a granular discussion of the merits of the BTTF sequels.

The important thing is, it sounds like you and your kid had a blast, so good for you both!

It has a 93% on rotten tomatoes and was nominated for best animated feature at the academy awards..

The Incredibles 2 is not terrible, but it's essentially a rewrite of the first film that requires all character arcs to be re-connect.

It's just boring. It does nothing fresh.

The Screenslaver character was really cool, until it was revealed to be a ruse by the most obvious villain name ever.

Academy awards in animation are a joke.
It's a joke category, but some of the movies that are up for it are obviously legitimately good. But sometimes ****ty films get nominated because there aren't enough good ones in a given year.

On the same internet that stores the praise for the first film.

Disney is more than capable of churning out a soulless sequel or remake. Toy Story 4, Finding Dory, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Frozen 2, The Little Mermaid. Incredibles 2 is a solid continuation of the first movie.

As for the BTTF series, Part II is the TOD of the franchise. Nowhere near as good the original, but insanely quotable and arguably the most fun.

I disagree. Not enough reason in my mind to make it after Toy Story 3 perfectly ended the franchise. Then Lightyear and now Toy Story 5.

In your estimation, are The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid both soulless and sequels??

I understand the reasoning to make them, at least 5 years ago. They each make about a billion. The people opposed to them won't see them, and the new audiences will.

But yes, soulless remakes.

Toy Story 4 is also highly acclaimed. It has a 97% on rotten tomatoes and was nominated for best animated feature at the academy awards.

I walked out of the cinema with tears in my eyes.

Soulless? Far from it.

People said the same exact thing when Toy Story 3 was coming out.

“It’s been too long”

“They are going to ruin it”

Etc.

Both Toy Story 3 and 4 were highly acclaimed films.

Toy Story 3 was nominated for best picture, outside of the animated feature category. With other live action films. The ending of that film is talked about more than any other portion of the franchise. Toy Story 4 got great reviews, as all of them did. I can't speak to what movies have you walking out in tears, but the consensus among most people was that it was completely unnecessary.

It was as unnecessary as 3 was is my point.

Both turned out great regardless.
