Mod The Infernal Machine

Hi.
Does anyone know how to mod Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine?

VP 04-05-2006 11:24 AM

JerryKing has been doing some incredible stuff with the game, he probably knows if it's possible.

Tennessee R 04-09-2006 09:42 AM

Can we get Jerry King Live? ;)
Sounds interesting. I'd like to see what options are available.

IM was the first action, adventure, and shooter game I ever played.
To me, it was great!

Unfortunately, while I was able to extract textures, and so I could probably describe how to change them, it would be a horrendous task, since every single texture would have to be extracted by hand, with a hex editor, then merged with a header of another texture so that it could be converted by Jedi Knight II graphics utilities, then edited, then stripped from the header, and then reinserted again by cutting and merging the file that stores the textures... and thenedited back into the one big .GOB file... and that's just for the graphics. As for the sounds, I don't even have an idea. If I did, I would have extracted the PC soundtrack years ago. :)

Now, if some programmers or experienced x0rs :) could be persuaded to take on the Machine, this would no doubt be much easier... if someone just figured out the codecs Lucasarts used, the encryption... the internal formats of the Infernal data. :)

Perhaps the folks from Xentax.com could be pestered to look into it...

Or perhaps the biggest army of Jedi Knight II modders (Infernal Machine uses its expanded engine) could be persuaded:

I thought that Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast came out two years after IM.

It would be cool if someone could remake the skins or such thing to make the graphics better.

VP 08-13-2006 12:50 PM

That wouldn't help at all, because the amount of polygons wouldn't increase and they are a lot more important.

JerryKing 07-15-2007 05:30 PM

Infernal Machine music... :)

It hasn't even been eight years, and Clint Bajakian's music for "Infernal Machine" (as well as all Doug Lee dialogue and more) can already be extracted and converted. Now that was quick!

GREAT! I was just about posting a new thread to ask if someone could have been able to find something to rip IM soundtrack...

I've downloaded the utility, but it doesn't work... I mean, the executive file does not open any ripping program...

Can somebody explain me how can I do?

Professor Jones 09-02-2007 03:54 AM

Sorry... stupid question... it's a DOS program! :o Trouble solved!

Moedred 10-14-2007 05:13 PM

JerryKing found a solution:

Now, I'm a total rookie. I tried dragging the game's GOB files into this unzipped GOBExt Application in Windows. The DOS prompt opens briefly and disappears. What do I do at this point?

Could we at least try to get this to work on XP first?:D

The only way I get to play this is through an N64 emulator.

You found an emulator that can run the N64 rom? Which? I've tried 3 or 4 and they all couldn't read the ROM...

...I DO own the actual cart for my N64--ordered it from Blockbuster all those years ago. They were the only source to get it back then--it never hit stores. Still, I'd like to emulate it just on principle. Just to have it... So which emulator do you use?

metalinvader 10-14-2007 10:53 PM

I used project 64.Works fine but I'd rather play the real deal on my pc.

*edit..I had to download a few different roms to get one that worked.

How about PMing me with a little more detailed information on WHICH rom exactly... ;)

Run the process 100% in the DOS prompt, you won't need the fancy Windows stuff.

Moedred 10-24-2007 02:09 AM

Okay, this works: CD1, CD2 and Jones3D GOB files, click on and open with GOBext. In the ndy file, open each of the CND files with CNDext. The sound folder there will have every sound. The dialogue audio file names are shorter without any underlines. I copied all 793 into another file. Each wave file has a j, s, v, etc. to indicate who's speaking... change them all to j and the conversations will sort chronologically (though not by chapter). Drop them into a media player and enjoy the plot in about 25 minutes!

Though don't subtitles appear when the game's sound is off? I'd like to extract those files and assemble the script...

Moedred 12-27-2007 11:21 PM

I can't post wave sound files at Livejournal without paying.
How I can share the 45 MB of game dialogue files?

Rapidshare.com
Megaupload.com

Take your pick.

VP 12-28-2007 03:56 AM

Either of those works yeah. Which files exactly do you want to share? I can rip them myself and host them on my own webspace.

Moedred 12-28-2007 05:40 PM

It's the dialogue wave files from IM. They're a few seconds each, and maybe they could even be strung together like a radio play. I was originally looking for a script (like in the ET game files) based on subtitle files which may not exist. Shall I email you (or anyone else interested) the files?

VP 12-29-2007 04:59 AM

No, use the aforementioned links.

Moedred 02-19-2008 08:03 PM

Rolled 793 files into one with Goldwave Multiquence!
Infernal Machine dialogue, 36:06 minutes
mp3 file, 33.1 MB, 128 kbps:
http://rapidshare.com/files/93301750/i5mp3.mp3.html
0:00 Peru, 0:27 Canyon, 2:46 Babylon, 7:27 River, 11:20 Lagoon, 13:55 Temple, 14:47 Jeep, 16:16 Olmec, 18:47 Pyramids, 22:51 Nub, 25:16 Machine, 28:06 Aetherium, 29:34 dialogue files

Moedred 03-27-2009 01:06 PM

Added audio link to my livejournal.
(Although I now prefer sendspace over rapidshare, which makes you wait 15 minutes between downloads.)

With much help from Prime Blue I've assembled the script, and boldfaced the unused (and repeated) dialogue (except for the incidental lines). Unfortunately the Russian lines are phonetic and can't be translated automatically. As with the audio, I know it's slightly out of order, but in the order the files were placed. It reveals an unused puzzle in the Shambala waterworks, and Sophia gets possessed, again: "Stay away, mortal!"

More amusing unused lines...

J: "Snakes and more snakes!"
J: "Yow! Keep away from me!"
J: "You know, I should get over this irrational fear of reptiles."

J: "Progress! Another Machine whatzit..."
J: "Finally! The last thingamajig..."
J: "Some kind of whatchamacallit..."
J: "A something-or-other..."
J: "Ye Olde Prehistoric Helicopter Part..."
J: "The Battery from Hell Part..."
J: "The Mystic Cocktail Shaker Part..."
