Indy IV Soundtrack - Exposed?

Exposed or Unexposed?
That's the question.

When the soundtrack finally comes out, are you going to listen to it before seeing the film or wait until after? Assuming it comes out before the movie, as from what I know, they usually do.

I did this with Revenge of the Sith. Part of me wanted to wait and be exposed to the new themes and what-not while watching the movie, I mean I hate spoilers... even musical ones. But the other part of me wanted to listen to it and IMAGINE what could be going on during these parts.

Sometimes the track listing can also spoil some of the story elements, so you might not want to even know what the track list is. I really hate when they do that. Like when I looked at the back of the TPM soundtrack before I had seen it and saw "Qui-Gon's Death and Funeral" or whatever it said. Kinda ticked me off since I didn't know he was going to die!!!

I know this seems like a picky thing, "It's only the soundtrack" I can hear them saying... but it is a big deal to me. I mean this is JOHN WILLIAMS! And probably his second best theme score ever, or at least in the top five IMO. We finally get some new music after nearly 20 years of no new Indiana Jones score. Will you be waiting to be exposed to it during the film or give it a listen in your car on the way to the theater?

... You could always just listen to the older soundtracks if you just wanna get pumped before the film. I mean, what if there is some kind of real cool tune in there like "Escape from Venice" or something like Williams' "Duel of the Fates," from EP1? I think I'd rather hear it for the first time during the movie. You'll have tons of time to listen to it afterwards... right?

For a movie I'm really looking forward to I always buy the soundtrack and listen to it the first day its released. As long as the track listings don't reveal any major spoilers it doesn't ruin the experience for me.

BTW, when I first read the thread title I thought the Indy 4 score had been leaked....before its even been recorded.

...I'm actually quite stunned that hasn't happened yet. To all of you, fake Indy IV trailer and news-producers: I'm disappointed!

I'd much prefer to hear the score for the first time watching the film.

I'm waiting until I've seen the movie at least 4 or 5 times. There's nothing better than hearing it the way it's meant to be heard - with the movie.

Agreed. If you can control your urge to listen to the soundtrack before watching the film, I suggest you do that No Ticket. Listen to the soundtrack afterwards.

Really? I never thought anybody would have thought that from the title! lol.

I'm definitely waiting to listen to it on this one. I basically want to know next to nothing about this movie until I'm in the theater watching it. Well, that's what I want. I just realized some of that music may be in the trailer, so it might be inevitable.

Unlikely. They seem to be following the same schedule they did with the original Indy movies, and the teaser trailers all just had music from previous films. If they release a trailer close to the release date it'll most likely have music from the film.

I think you'll have a mix of music from past films in the trailer. Especially the Teaser. I could be wrong. They may make a track just for the trailer. Who knows?

But I cannot emphasize enough how much cooler it will be hearing and seeing everything for the first time in the theatre. It would take away the freshness if I knew the music before seeing the actual film. It would also, in some cases, take away the surprise of some of the major scenes if you knew the score too well. I haven't even been tempted to ever go out and by a soundtrack before buying my movie ticket. It just wouldn't be the same.

I don't even necessarily like the fact that I know the original three scores as well as I do. I could probably whistle the entire score of Raiders, from beginning to end, without blinking an eardrum. Luckily, with Temple and Crusade, there is much that was left out of the original release of the score. Many of the tracks are still kind of fresh in my mind. I can't even imagine a new Williams/Indy score. I am as excited about this as I am about the actual movie. It will play an enormous part in bringing me back to the feeling of seeing the original films.
