*sigh* - glorbes - from one customiser to another, that's beautiful man.

Please take the following as constructive encouragement - I'd look to tweak the tops of the legs slightly. It's seems to me like you had the same issue I did with Belloq - remove the 'skirt' from a figure and the upper thighs and waist look undersized. If you could just bulk out the tops of the legs a little more to fill out the profile it'd be perfect.

Great use of parts, fantastic scratch-built elements, and an awesome job of painting / detailing.

And I might just let you convince me about the Shaw head - but Katanga's up next...

DutchIndy 09-09-2008 12:45 PM

Your Donovan should be released btw! Nice work!!!

You're absolutely right. Now that I look at it, the waist is definitely off. He will be modded. Thanks for the kick in the pants :hat:

OH MY GOD!!! THAT IS AMAZING! Everyone has to see this! What a great idea, glorbes and you pulled it off verrrrry nicely.

More details you might want to add:
-place a cigarette w/holder in other hand
-attach a drum or banana magazine to the forearm.
-paint the robotic hand black to simulate a glove, leaving a thin ring of silver on the index fingertip to simulate a gun nozzle.
-Drill a tiny hole into said index finger. Paint black.

Most of the concept art shows the robotic arm being his left one but I can tell you based this on the drawing where it's
on his right. Not a criticism an any way. Your successes at flooring myself and everyone else deserve the highest praise.:hat:

P.S. To Inky_skin, your Jock and Belloq in tropical kit are great! Love 'em. The only action figure that I ever
customised was in the early '80s and he was Boba Fett. I filed off the range finder and added my own, proper one.
Repainted him in detail and glued on a cape and threaded, Wookie scalps. (He now lies in my Vader's head, collector's
case in a box and deep in storage miles away.) I used to mix & match Tamiya Military Miniatures, though, to get the
right poses for dioramas so I can really appreciate what you guys are doing. Keep up the EXCELLENT work!:)

Lambonius 09-09-2008 09:36 PM

All you guys' amazing work (the recent Donovan and Concept Sketch Toht are probably my two favorites so far) has inspired me to take a crack at whipping up my very first custom. I'm going to start simple and make a Venice Indy using Tie Indy's body with Henry Sr's arms and jacket. A simple grey repaint later, and it should look pretty good, I'm thinking. And he can double for a "casual Friday" Professor Indy, to boot. ;)

So I pose a simple question to you guys, the greats of custom figures--what's the best way to get tight joints like the arms out of their sockets without damaging the plastic? I've read that freezing them might make them too brittle and they'd be in danger of breaking, but warming them up seems like it'd have the same effect, only they'd be in danger of breaking due to the softened plastic. Any advice would be much appreciated.

singsingjohnny 09-10-2008 12:03 AM

Professor Jones

Simple custom but I figured I'd make one since Hasbro might not get around to it...:(

Lambonius 09-10-2008 12:29 AM

Nevermind guys, I figured it out myself (should have just done a google search before posting the question.) The process turned out pretty well. It was a supremely simple custom, but I think he looks great. I haven't yet decided if I'm going to try to repaint him, as the colors of the jacket and pants actually work quite well just the way they are. Here are a few shots.

Finally!! A plain-clothes Indy to call my very own!!! :p

Lambonius 09-10-2008 12:32 AM

Great Professor Indy!! Love the darker suit. It's amazing what you can do with a headswap and a good repaint! :)

inky_skin 09-10-2008 02:56 AM

glorbes, lambonius, singsingjohnny (and everyone else who has contributed in this thread) - wonderful to be sharing the forum with such a creative bunch.

singsingjohnny - where did you get the desk set in your pics from ?

Incidentally, if anyone has a Veers for sale or trade - please LMK ! I didn't use his head for Donovan because it's impossible to find the figure for less than £10 ($20) here in the UK.

DutchIndy 09-10-2008 03:09 AM

Indy_skin:

Are the LC figures for sale in the UK?

singsingjohnny:
WOW!

They aren't at general retail in stores like, say, Toys 'R' Us. However, I went to London last weekend (a once a year deal for me as it's a fair distance), and found the whole wave at a specialist retailer called Forbidden Planet. The price per fig ranged between £6.99 (Grail Knight, Vogel, Elsa) and £8.99 (Indy, Young Indy, Henry Sr). Fortunately they had sufficient that I could compare and contrast paint apps. Some of those Vogels were terrible - I may still have to touch up some of the paint on mine.

Where I am in the UK (Devon), pegs are stuffed with Waves 1 & 2 with no sign of them clearing / new stock arriving.

Thanks for the info! I might have to go to London in the near future, I'll make sure to drop by at the Forbidden Planet! The only figures I can find here are "Skull" figures. There should be some Raiders figures around as well, but I had already ordered a case of those, so that's cool. Thanks again.

Singsingjohnny and Lambonius -

These kitbashes look pretty sharp! I'm surprised at how well the jacket looks with Indy's pants...its a great 'plain clothes' version of the character as you say. And that Professor Indy is a figure to be coveted...lovely work mixing and matching parts.

vf wing 09-10-2008 05:34 PM

Some really fantastic work on display here!

singsingjohnny 09-11-2008 10:16 AM

Thanks for the kind words all! I really hope that Hasbro makes this figure, but we'll see...though I do think that this line has more life in it than Hasbro is letting on...

inky_skin, that desk, blackboard/map and folding chair came from THIS set from the G.I.Joe knockoff Power Team Elite line, which I found in the States here at a discount store chain called Big Lots.

However, THIS site carries custom-made accessories, primarily for Joe stuff, but it's in scale with the Indy figs and some of the stuff would be great for dioramas and such. You'll notice that he has the very same board, table and chairs, which were bought at bulk from the PTE producers. They also have shovels, briefcases, knives, swords, guns, etc. I've ordered from them many times and gotten great quality and service, buy with confidence!

I have ordered from them before, great plact to pick up exta dio pieces and weapons. They also have a motorcycle and sidecar which is not accurate for TLC at all, but since Hasbor may never make one, it is probably the best we can do.

Lance Quazar 09-11-2008 05:44 PM

^I have bought a ton from Marauder, including the motorcycle with sidecar, which is sadly the best I think we can do.

Indy and Henry are currently enjoying the ride...

Kevin 09-11-2008 05:50 PM

You know, with Henry and Indy sitting in it alone, it looks pretty good; put it next to the German soldier on motorcycle, and it doesn't look that great. I was thinking of getting an extra German w/motorcycle and attaching the Marauder sidecar to it, but I will hold off on that until I am 100% certain that Hasbro won't ever make one.

I'm thinking about getting that motorcycle w/sidecar as the basis for just such a custom. Tell me though, do the figures fit well into it? I don't want to have to bend the crap out of Henry's legs to get him into that sidecar. As for the bike itself, I'll probably swap it out for the German w/Motorcycle bike, like you said.

Henry sits in the sidecar perfectly, no worries there. I will post a pic later tonight.

It is a little tough to get Indy in a decent pose on the bike, though.

Hmm. Well I suppose if I have to, I can always use LC Indy's top and Horse Indy's legs.

Yeah, Horse Indy's legs would be a better choice. Here is the pic:
