Here's a review from Bloomberg. 3 stars (out of 4)

Interesting to note that with all of these positive reviews Agent Spalko is nowhere to be found....

With people now seen the movie, any word on what the Paramount mountain dissolves to? The title fonts?

It's interesting that, even among the positive reviews, they contradict each other on a lot of points...meaning, some say Mutt is forced and a stretch, others say he's delightful. Some say the jungle chase is too long and too much, others say it's visceral and thrilling. Some say the supporting cast lags, others say they are perfect.
Many reviews think the dialogue is sometimes cumbersome (and given some of the examples, I see what they mean). And a lot think the middle drags, but mostly because the opening is so great. So it seems a lot of the finer points may be subjective, but overall, it's very worthy, with some minor caveats. (Yes, I've changed my tone somewhat but there are many more reviews in) |

Just a thought
Everyone should take note of these reviews and their descriptive narrative. Of particular note are the cheers at the first screening which was exactly what occurred at the stateside screening several weeks ago.
The reviews that had cropped up earlier at AICN and others spoke of only snippets gathered surfing the net and never spoke of the relationships nor detail. It is interesting how much time and effort went into debating those false reviews and hopefully the perps--who were only looking for attention when they wrote them--will be tarred. At any rate, it’s far from the disaster some predicted and actually is being reviwed better than many had hoped See you all in 72 hours |

Roger Ebert
Go to the Chicago Sun Times... Ebert gave it 3.5 out of 4 stars!!!!!!!! We have a winner!!!!

Wow. Jeremy Smith of CHUD gives the movie 3 out of TEN stars and says "Everyone who's written a positive review of this movie will regret it in a year."
I've actually noticed a similar theme with all the negative reviews: the reviewers act like it's not even debatable whether it's a good movie, because it's so obvious that it sucks. http://chud.com/articles/articles/14...AKE/Page1.html |

Ohhhhhhh, Spalky. |

Now that's just ridiculous. |

Devin Faraci of CHUD gives it 6.5 out of 10. He makes it sound like the movie is nothing but CGI. He also makes some comment that this would be a great Mummy sequel, but it's Indiana Jones, so that's just unacceptable.
(I challenge anyone to make it through the entire review. It just goes on and on. I got about halfway through before I gave up.) http://chud.com/articles/articles/14...AKE/Page1.html |
And another CHUD reviewer gave the movie a 6/10 on Rottentomatoes. I checked this guy's "previous ratings" all of the movies he's rated are fresh expect Indy. Makes me doubt his credibility, but unfortunately that's one more review that will effect the rating of the movie.
|
Keep on mind the other Indy films had mixed reviews as well, but rotten tomatoes doesn't have record of all of those old reviews since they're pre-internet. They have more recent reviews that pertain to the recent VHS and DVD releases (except for LC maybe), and everyone loves them all now in retrospect. Just because everyone and their mother is a critic with a website doesn't make them more credible.

CHUD has been very vocal that they want The Dark Knight to be the big winner of the summer. This review just goes to show their bias and agenda. They were the website pushing the "insider" information that KOTCS was a "troubled" production and Lucas and Spielberg were barely talking now. They were the web site leaking the supposed information that distributor screenings were going badly (that obviously isn't true). They broke the "story" that KOTCS was a disaster and had a 2hr 20 minute running time. If they give a positive review of the film it simply exposes them and their so-called "sources" to a certain amount of ridicule. They are just sticking to their guns... they know better and everyone else is an idiot. Frankly, this review reads like it was written by a petulant child whose mad he didn't get his way (namely critics and fans would turn on it). Yancy |
So basically the Rotten Tomatoes rating is going to plummet because of CHUD giving it THREE negative reviews. Ugh.

Big winner how?
IM has shown that he'll be #1 super hero this year. |

Keep in mind that Jeremy loved Speed Racer and urged everyone to go. I guess he doessn't have much influence on the movie going public as that movie is being declared the first bomb of the season. |

I think they only count one review from their site. Yancy |

It's still 75% with top critics. |

If you follow CHUD they have been having a love-fest with The Dark Knight for over a year now (they were granted access to the set). They have been very vocal that Dark Knight is the best film of the summer and have been drumming that beat all year. They have become deluded by their own "importance" among the film-geek community. CHUD, like AICN, started in the late 90s primarily to feed the geek community with the latest "rumors" swirling around The Phantom Menace and Lord of the Rings. The sites both grew in popularity, but somewhere along the way they both lost sight of the fact they were simply a geek clearinghouse for the day's movie nerd news... suddenly they thought they had influence... they did not. Just witness the EPIC failure of Speed Racer which CHUD was extolling as brilliant cinema. It was a piece of garbage and is flaming out at the box office. Yancy |
