Indy's father's death

In Crystal Skull, Indy explains that his dad has died. But his dad drank from the Holy Grail in Last Crusade and had eternal life! Is there something I am missing? Or is that just an error in the movie...

Listen, bud, Indy and Henry Sr. both drank from the Holy Grail BUT the Knight said that they could only live eternally if they don't go past the great seal which is basically right in front of the entrance. So they could live forever if they stayed inside and guarded the mystery of the grail as the knight did. But Indy just used the grail water on Henry's bullet wound instead.

Do a little searching next time before you make a thread. This is one of the most common misunderstandings about LC. And there's about 135 threads on it.

Thanks for telling me! I guess I didn't listen that closely in the movie...:o

DocWhiskey 03-22-2009 09:48 PM

No biggie. Like I said, it's a common mistake. But from now one you'll know.

I never realized there was so much confusion surrounding LC's ending, but this question seems to pop up whenever LC or KOTCS is discussed online.

Yeah, when I was a little kid I always thought, "Wow! How cool! The movie ends with Indy beating the bad guys and becoming immortal!"

Because you're never really listening to what's going on when you're 6 or 7. But when I was older I remember thinking about the films and asking myself "Why the hell did the grail temple suddenly start to fall apart?" So I'd watch it again more older and mature and then I'd understand what I overlooked as a kid.

And most of them can be found using the search. Keyword "immortal" works well.

I'm glad that we still have people who bother answering these questions in a civilized manner. If I'd be forced to work for the TRNIS (I'll just let you guess what the acronym means), I'd probably lost the last of those few marbles I have left.

I thought the same thing when I saw LC in theaters (I was 6). I understood that the temple was falling apart because the Grail was being removed, but I thought Indy and his Dad were still going to live forever. The key part of the Gail Knight's line, lost on most people (and all 6 year-olds) is "But the Grail cannot pass beyond the Great Seal; for that is the price, and the boundary of immortality." Seems a lot of people don't catch the full meaning of the second part.

What he said. It wasn't/isn't that ahrd to miss is a rather important sceen in the film.

Many people need to take this advice.
