Figure looks very good. But something about that head sculpt and fedora looks a bit off. I'm not a huge complainer, but Hot Toys charges 200+ for figures, so I'd like it to look as good as possible. I hope we get articulated chest hair! ;)

There have been suggestions he may even top $250 due to Lucasfilm licensing, so this one really needs to be spot on when it goes into production. Quote:
Maybe on the TOD version? Living tissue over a durable endoskeleton. It'll come with a mini razor to keep Indy looking his best at all times! |
Arnie Kim confirmed on the Hot Toys Facebook page today that he is resculpting the head.
|
I was the one that asked him about it. LFL charge a lot for this licence, so it will have to be damn near perfect for a purchase. It's close, but I hope they are taking all feedback into consideration and redoing it all, especially the head.

I thought I recognized the name. :hat: The discussion and condemnation has been pretty heated, so it would be hard to imagine that Hot Toys would let this one slip through without an overhaul. The head is the main issue - it's a good sculpt, but not a particularly good sculpt of Harrison. The jacket should use thinner material (I have an old Dragon figure of Erich Hartmann with a leather jacket whose material is darn near perfect, so that shouldn't be a problem for HT to solve). Then the Aldens need to be weathered, rather than looking like they just came out of the shoe shop. While that's something than can be easily done after sale, I'd rather that Indy was about as right as possible to start with, as I wouldn't want to customize something that expensive. I prefer to keep these figures as they were intended. |
I saw it was up for pre-order today... I'll pull the trigger. Montana...I agree with waiting to see in hand. I think most of the time the likeness is better in hand. This one is so close that maybe it will be 95% goodness as is when we open it, and, with them futzing around with it now maybe it will be stunning. I agree with the Jacket, but i got to say it has a lot better grain to it, and it's lined, can't remember if SS was.
I don't know if any of you have an obsession with the Raiders gear but, what do you think the bag strap color should be? I like how the've gone here, similar to Wade Egan's colour. However, watching the movie I swear there are multiple bag straps or the color is severely changed do to the lighting. It's the only piece of gear that I have can't nail down the color. One minute I like it darker like the hat and the next more orangey like it's represented here. |
It's up now but $250! And the non refundable $25 fee if you change your mind. Ouch.
I'll see if I can get it at cost like I do the other sideshow offerings. To be honest. I like the 12 sideshow. I have the real heroes indy and didn't think it was that great. This one has great accessories but I think the head sculpt is off |
I preordered him through Sideshow. I had some Sideshow Rewards points saved up to apply to just such a big ticket item. I know some folks aren't too keen on this figure, but I think it looks amazing so far...it's going to be a long, long wait though :(
Also, according to a post on the SS Freaks, Arnie Kim is reworking the sculpt. He confirmed via his Facebook page (screen shot is posted on SS Freaks). |
Ordered --- as if there was any doubt! ;)
I think it looks cool -- and I love the dioramas and the extra outfit -- nice touches! les |
Quote:
For me the dioramas and the extra outfit are just compounding the price issue. $250 won't likely translate into a straight currency conversion into £ (which today would be £156). There's normally a big mark-up here over the dollar price. For example Play.com are currently offering the Terminator T-800 for £229.99! Then there's all the other issues with the figure. If enough people pre-order Hot Toys may not even feel obliged to alter it much, as they'll know it has a market whatever. Based on the look of the current Indy prototype, I'm much more looking forward to the arrival of Milla Jovovich as Alice, who already looks perfect. And as others have said, waiting for an MMS TOD Indy may be a better option (maybe he'll have a Trevor Grove sculpt!) |
Quote:
The jacket is certainly going in the right direction, compared to the SS, which although lined, was still very thin, yet stiff, making it stick out rather than hang naturally. |
Personally, I am quite happy with him just as he is in these pics. If they do tweak him, for the better, that's just gravy. Don't get me wrong though, there are a few things that I hope they fix like the color of the belts and maybe tone down the shoes a bit , but those aren't show stoppers for me.
|
Some figures beg to be bought, and I can't help but buy them whatever.
Some figures ask me to justify buying them. At the moment this prototype is asking for justification. I see a figure of somebody impersonating Indy. It doesn't sell itself as an iconic representation of Harrison's Indiana Jones. While the Sideshow doesn't have the same lifelike texture, for the money it's a closer representation. Arnie Kim on his Facebook page answers the question, "Are you redoing the sculpt Arnie?" with the response, "yes." But he seemed to be a bit hazier with this one: "I just wanted know if the hat can come down more, as I would like to see less of a gap between the ear and the brim of the hat." Arnie: "I think so" As the sculptor he should know the limits and tolerances of the hat fitting to the head. It makes me wonder how much they're really intending to work on it. Hence I'd rather wait and see before committing. |
Maybe Arnie doesn't know because he isn't the one doing the rework on the head sculpt? Could be that Hot Toys has someone else doing it.

Quote:
That would be a kick in the teeth, but it would be great if whoever gets the job has a real feel for the character. At present, as life-like and skilled as the sculpting is, it doesn't sell the image of Harry's Indy. |
The jacket looks bad here, but there's a close-up of Indy's other hairstyle.

jacket looks like it came off a medicom.

I'm very disappointed by the sculpt. It looks more like Howard Moon than Indiana Jones

Forbiddenplanet.co.uk has put him up for pre-order at £199.99 + £2.50 delivery.

I think they did, but Lucas asked for the other £259 in royalties! While Bill Gates is giving his fortune away to the needy, Lucas is still raking it in every way he can. And what does he do with it? He gives us Jar Jar Binks. Now that's just not very charitable. |
errr...wait....
So it's up for pre-order for over $200, yet a new sculpt has been confirmed to being worked on....... |
Quote:
Sideshow's pre-order price is $249.99 including a $25 non-refundable deposit. http://www.sideshowtoy.com/?page_id=...e&new&preorder There's a whole lotta hope going into this figure! The forbiddenplanet.co.uk pre-order doesn't take a deposit, and it can be cancelled by 'phone, so it's a no-risk reservation. |
Quote:
![]() ...it might as well have been $249.99. Which is what it costs today if I'm not mistaken. |

But I guess it couldn't get "worse." I dunno, but you're right, a lotta hope, eh. |

Fortunately the vintage stuff doesn't appeal. (Nice photo, shame about the figure). Unfortunately the modern stuff does appeal. Quote:
As I wrote on Sideshow Freaks, Arnie Kim is a very talented sculptor, but he hasn't captured the essence of Harrison as Indy yet. This one had so much expectation riding on it, that I hope Hot Toys will take pride in order to get him right, rather than just take the pre-orders and leave him as is. |

Unpunched! Nice! |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The hat is still perched too high in these photos. Translating Arnie Kim's Korean suggests this was done originally for the show photos, to better show off the face. But since it still hasn't been fixed, I'm still wondering about that. The jacket is too bulky. The trouser belt too dark. The Aldens too new. Yet the angle of the first shot presents a much less intense image of Harrison as Indy. |
These new pics just further my optimism about this figure. I don't consider myself a "Hot Toys Fan Boy" (this will actually be my first HT figure) nor do I consider myself a "fan boy" for any particular comapany. I do really love Sideshow's customer service and how they seem to listen to their customers. I have several of their figures, including both the Raiders and Skull Indys as well as a bunch of Star Wars figures. Some are great, some not so great, but they were the best available at the time. I feel the same about this figure. I love Sideshow's Raiders Indy, but this one really tops it in my opinion. I know the price is pretty steep, but thankfully I am able to set aside the money for him. If it was anyone other than Indy, I would have to give pause, but this just looks too good to me. Hopefully they will fix the little inaccuracies like the belt colors, etc and see about lowering that hat a little (as they are supposedly doing), but they have plenty of time to do that. In the end, those things still aren't showstoppers for me, even if he ships exactly like in these pics, I will be happy with him. I guess I am just an idiot (as someone posted on the SS freaks)

Exactly what struck me when I saw them this morning. The extra light is making him appear much more like Harrison. Quote:
The "fanboy" label is a crude putdown. People put their money into whatever makes them happy. I went to the point of no return in the early hours of yesterday morning. A layaway order with OneSixthBruce. However he eventually turns out when production begins, he won't lose money. Breaking him up and selling the parts will bring the cash back in if things are desperate! Quote:
I still really like the SS as well, and as you say, the HT will be the next step up. As long as HT fix things like the hat, and the jacket. If they don't they'll be storing up a loss of confidence for the future - that customers won't believe they'll improve a figure, no matter how many pre-orders have been secured. Quote:
Well, I would be more than disappointed if Indy shipped with a floating fedora! The hat is an iconic look, and it really should sit right on his head. :hat: |
Those are pretty solid pictures. I'm starting to get tempted with this one.
|
Woah thats some epic chest hair! Is he hairy all over?
|
Quote:
The real Harrison Ford is smooth except for his chest and - whoops. Nevermind! |

Quote:
Just nobody mention 'Realdoll'. Oh. I just did. :o Apparently he's using Wolverine's body (and that sounds bad). Wolverine was very hairy. But the figure isn't. ![]() |
I was checking 'Who's Online' and saw this thread: Post Pics of your Indy figures!
![]() And here we are discussing the merits and demerits of Hot Toys! WHERE DID YOU GET THAT HAT ? Now how I came to get this hat, 'tis very strange and funny Grandfather died and left to me his property and money And when the will it was read out, they told me straight and flat If I would have his money, I must always wear his hat "Where did you get that hat? Where did you get that tile? Isn't it a nobby one, and just the proper style? I should like to have one Just the same as that!" Where'er I go, they shout "Hello! Where did you get that hat?" (As sung by Stanley Holloway) |
LOL, that's the "Relic Hunter", an Indy knockoff. The gear is actually not too bad believe it or not, and the headsculpt has kind of a passing resemblance to Harrison Ford (but more like Deniis Quaid), but that hat! That must be how they avoided getting sued by LFL, by giving him that hat.
I got one to use for my custom Indy a few years back. |
Quote:
A long time ago I bought a knock-off Indy that went by the name of 'Adventurer', back when the Holy Grail was a Toys McCoy. His hat was made of cheap pleather and never fitted very well. He didn't remain on display for long, but l recently decided to use his body inside a Hasbro Dengar outfit. Both his feet broke off trying to pull his boots off! The jacket also stained his shirt. Oddly enough, I discovered this morning that on my Sideshow ROTLA Indy the jacket has also stained the shirt sleeves (there's no lining in the jacket sleeves). I was trying the Medicom Jacket on the Sideshow, but it didn't look any good. (Shame because the Medicom jacket is far better made, with a silk-like lining and inside pockets). So I contented myself by wrapping tissue paper round Medi Indy's abdomen and shoulders, so he doesn't look so skinny. I did the same to Mutt, which cured his anorexia. |
The Relic Hunter jacket also has a silk like lining and inside pocket. It really is pretty nice, if not a tad bulky. It's also got that oversized zipper. Like I said, as far as the gear goes, it's actually quite nice. It came with a metal revolver w/working cylinder and metal sword (almost a dead ringer for the TOD sword). The bag is pretty nice, as ar the rest of the outfit. HE even came with socks and real lace up shoes. It really makes the hat that much worse, I mean everything else is pretty nice...I don't see hwo they could have screwed up the hat that bad. Even the vintage Kenner 12" hat looked better.
|
Quote:
The Relic Hunter sounds a lot better than the 'Adventurer'. I know I was disappointed when I first received him, as I was accustomed to Dragon (DML) figures with their fine tailoring and quality bodies (though the faces could sometimes let a figure down). I'm quietly confident that Hot Toys won't let us down with Indy. They have a reputation, and they often go to a level far beyond the oppositon. |
There are some pics of my custom, wearing the Relic Hunter gear, in this thread:
http://raven.theraider.net/showthrea...ghlight=custom He looks kind of crappy, I know, but this was actually my first attempt at customizing/kit bashing a 1/6 figure. He still holds a special place in my heart :o |
Quote:
Wow, he blows the 'Adventurer' knock-off out of the water! In fact he's more convincing than the Medicom. |
