You mean this Medicom version?

I still can't see it. Still prefer the Sideshow, which is even better when painted properly:

But despite everything, I think the Hot Toys is going to look great when in hand.

This one has issues of proportion with the nose eyes and mouth...something oddly simian about it. The facial hair is poorly done...the surface area from jawline to cheek bone is plain wrong! Too flat.

The new one looks alright, though the features look too "deep set," carved too deeply, especially his brow. The gear looks well done, but the sculpt looks like it was sourced from a screen shot and probably looks pretty nice from that angle, but looses it way from others.

The expression on the medcom above is more placid, but it has the best proportions. A quality paint would do it wonders.

Sometimes I really like the Sideshow, and sometimes I look at it and wonder where Indy went.

I find it hard looking at the Medicom because his body is so skinny. Paint would certainly despatch the rubbery texture and improve his appearance.

I think it was agreed that the sculpt derives from the intense expression Indy had just before taking the Idol. Being used to seeing passive Indy figures, it is hard to see Harrison in some angles.

The wolfman chops on that toy drive me nuts.

Billy Ray 07-22-2011 11:23 AM

I have both the Sideshow and the Medicom versions.

Sideshow's has a great sculpt but, yeah, the factory paintjob ruins it. He does look a little chubby cheeked too and the body isn't the greatest. The clothing and gear are pretty good.

Medicom's is an odd bird. I like it, but it has it's own problems. The sculpt looks like Harrison, but the head is too narrow. The hat, out of the box, looks weird but with a little hot water and some reshaping, it can be made to look good. The body is great though and can pull of some really realistic poses. He also comes with a TON of cool stuff, including all the relics (Ra headpiece, idol, grail, Sankara stone).

HT Indy looks like he will beat them both though, and I am really excited about getting him. I am sure that, in hand, he will be amazing.

Billy Ray 07-24-2011 01:01 AM

Latest "intel" from a poster at OneSixthWarriors:

I could not get any official word since the HT crew had left the show already, but I did speak with someone from Sideshow.

There is the understanding that there are sculpts that are still getting "tweeks" made to them. Indy might be one of them as might be Superman. They do continue to change sculpts up until final production, but HT does not give many details to Sideshow. They "play their cards close to their vest" as I was told.

So, no official word that Indy will be changed, but I was told that Yuli (I believe) was going to make a second pass on some of the Arnie Kim sculpts.

I guess this is still a wait and situation with Indy... So, we'll see.

Billy Ray 07-25-2011 09:56 PM

These inages were posted over at the Sideshow Freaks. Not sure if this is the tweaked sculpt or not, but it looks decidedly different to me. Pics are from Cool Toy Review, but I can't find where they posted them. Anyway, I think Indy looks fabulous here...

Billy Ray 07-25-2011 10:15 PM

Certainly looks different to me...

Billy Ray 07-25-2011 11:08 PM

I e-mailed Dave Myatt to see if he could shed any further light on if this is the "tweaked" version or not. Perhaps it's just his superior photography.

It does seem as though his eyes are lighter, he has a less furrowed brow, the creases in his cheeks aren't as exagerated, his eyes are slightly more "baggy" underneath, and the eyebrows and stubble are a bit more subtle. I guess this coud all be attributed to lighting in the photo though.

Montana Smith 07-25-2011 11:13 PM

This Indy has always looked better in the map room gear, right from the start. With these new pictures there's a lot more light on the face, so that the eyes look brighter, and the creases in the skin not so dark.

I think it's the same sculpt, which would be encouraging even if Hot Toys didn't adjust anything.

Billy Ray 07-25-2011 11:32 PM

Your probably right and, if so, I am even happier with the figure as is.

michael 07-26-2011 03:07 PM

It's starting to grow on me more and more. If not just for the production value of it.

I doubt I'll buy it though, but that's more on MY end.

boots013 07-26-2011 03:43 PM

It's so hard to tell if that's a tweaked version, or not. In any case [new sculpt or lighting], I think it looks much better.

I'm in the camp that didn't 'love' the Sideshow version. As an Indy fan, of course I had to have it-- but when it was in-hand, I just wasn't thrilled. I have seen several folks who did or had repaints done and they do look excellent. Sadly, I have no painting skills, nor enough desire to drop extra cash on something I already paid once for.

I have been a fan of the HT version since day one. Yes, I'll admit the head scupt could use some work-- but even if it ships AS IS, I'm in. I currently own three other HT figures and they are always garnering attention when friends stop over. I'm sure the HT Indy will do the same.

Billy Ray 07-26-2011 05:29 PM

I heard back from Dave Myatt (the photographer), here is what he had to say...

Me:

Just saw the pics of Hot Toys’ Indy, in Arab disguise, in the Sideshow SDCC gallery. Was wondering if you knew if this was the rumored “tweaked” sculpt or the same as the prototype? Maybe it’s just your superior photography, but it looks decidedly different than the proto pics on Sideshow’s site. Thanks for posting them, either way they have renewed my faith that this will be a great figure!

I dunno. I didn't ask, but from looking at it, I think it's the same one.

Me:

Thanks. Your pics are always great, and the closest to actually seeing the stuff in person. If this is how Indy looks in real life I will be quite happy with him.

You'll be happy then. And thanks for the kind words, they make the late night hours worth it

So there you have. Appears to be the same sculpt, just photgraphed better.

Billy Ray 08-02-2011 02:06 PM

LOL, sometimes I feel like the only person in the world that is looking forward to this guy, especially after visiting the Sideshow Freaks boards. Anyway, here are a couple of pics form the recent Ani-Com convention...

Montana Smith 08-02-2011 02:25 PM

Doesn't look like I'll ever be displaying him with the fedora on, unless by some miracle they cut the hair down so that the brim is just over his ears.

michael 08-02-2011 03:03 PM

To be honest, I like it more and more now that I see it.

I don't know what changed (in me) but even though something is just not totally correct with it (face wise), I think it's a tremendous figure.

Montana Smith 08-11-2011 03:43 AM

Here's a post grabbed from the Sideshow Freaks thread:

The one in robes i was staring for a few minutes, it definetly looks different from the proto everyone is used to seeing.

I went in, asked the staff regarding the release.

They said, release is still on track as Q3 release, which can be anytime before the end of September.

Regarding the prototype, the guy told me that those are 2 seperate sculpts. Since the sculpt is not final, they didn't put the prototype into a mold and make 10 copies to pass around conventions. The Indy's we've been seeing is the same figure, passed around and around. The map round Indy is the same Map Room Indy passed around and around.

Sculpt is not final, according to the worker at Toy Hunters.

Also... one more thing, in front of their window, on the display, Indy is officially Sold out. You can't pre-order this guy anymore, which is pretty rare. Usually you can walk into Toy Hunters and pre-order a figure as long as it isin't officially out yet. The sold out sign is usually whipped out when the figure isin't selling that well and they limited the production run to a certain number. Like the first M Icons MJ or 300 Leonidas.

If this is a true account, and based on some inside knowledge, then I find it very encouraging.

I was this close to possibly considering maybe getitin Hot Toys Indy...until I saw the Hot Toys Batman and Joker 89! Holy works of art, Batman!

Billy Ray 09-20-2011 07:19 PM

Holy crap! Just got my "shipping soon" email from Sideshow! It says that Hot Toys Indy should be arriving in their warehouse in 26 days!!!! :D

Guess that means we could be seeing pics of the production figure pop up any day now!

Montana Smith 10-06-2011 08:56 AM

Not much of a picture, but allegedly it's from the most recent toy fair.

Billy Ray 10-06-2011 10:31 AM

I think it is legit, from Ani-Com & Games Guangzhou. Hot Toys Community had posted pics that were supposedly from this con on their FB page, but were clearly from Ani-Com & Games Hong Kong. These are posed differently. Like you said, not the best of pics, but to me it looks like the hat might sit a little lower and it almost looks like his shoes are weathered. Would be nice to see better pics from this con, but I guess everyone was too busy taking pics of Batman and Iron Man

I think I'm seeing the following:

Adventure gear Indy does look different to me. The shoes, as you said, look to be weathered. Maybe even the trousers as well. The jacket even looks a tighter fit. And the face looks different, with a fedora that isn't perched too high.

Map Room Indy's shoes look unweathered. His scarf looks badly wrapped over his head. His face, which is for once looking straight at the camera, appears to have a less intense expression.

But maybe I'm seeing things. There has to be better photos out there somewhere!

Montana Smith 10-06-2011 12:27 PM

A bigger version. The faces do look different.
