Who do you think are the "raiders of the lost ark"?
Is it Indy and his team?
or is it Belloq and his team?
or is it everybody? Indy and the Nazis included.
I think it is everybody that was going after the ark.

i'd have to say it's belloq and the nazis. they opened the ark, raiding the inside. just the same, everybody could be considered the raiders.

The Oakland Raiders won the Superbowl the same year that Raiders was released.

I think it's just a cool sounding name, much cooler than say "Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark", or "Indiana Jones and the Ark of the Covenant".

I think the whole point of the title is that everyone in the film, good guys and bad guys alike, are all "raiding" the lost ark.
One of the most ingenius titles in film history, I might add.

Before "Raiders of the Lost Ark" no one knew who Indiana Jones was anyway, so it wouldn't have made any sense to call it "Indiana Jones and the......."

They wanted it to use it for evil, while Indy wanted it in the safe hands.
