1. What would be your favorite position now?
2. What was your favorite position when you were younger?
3. What position can you imagine holding at some point later in life?

Well Yea !!!! My favorite position is easy one.. PRONE and napping ..

I have notions of reforming the commonly-held view of the U.S. Senate...from the inside.

Well Prof, nothing ventured noting gained is a summary of the five chapters I could write to insipre you or tell tales of my own conquest here.

Anyway, what do you mean by "position"? I am confused. Do you mean position in life?

this is kind of a silly thread.

But of course position in life. I used to think I would be President . Soon learned that was not likley. All that met me in youth thought I should be an attorney. While I could never do that as aprofession I sure did try it part time. Since I was 15, I learned to work with hats and It sorta consumed my entire life. In between I made a Carpenter, Plumber, Electrician, Sewer cleaner, Lumber Jack, Professional Poker Player, Non professional poker player, Amatuer cabinet maker, Sheet rock finisher with focus on a sprayed spanish lace finish and really every thing between the masonry foundation of a house or light commercial building and the roof but could not do the start nor finish. I mostly learned I was a better administrator than a worker so I hired out people smarter than me. I always retured to my love or hats each time. I then made a fortune selling Vacs Yep a fortune in dirt.. Then one day I analyzed the system and realized I had believed the lie and it like many religions was so convincing but was yet deceptive and I quit and gave up and would not sell anoter one. Then a fire destoryed all my business equipment and the home I had migrated it into. Then I ambled around in dark living off my wits. Then I just took 8 years off doing any thing. Then I decided to live again and restart my hat business. I knew I would not drive a merdecez again or have 5 other new cars and trucks and such but I would have some happiness.

Now that said its a good dream but I find it sooooooo hard to relax and enjoy as I obsess over my business and my customers. I hardly spend any quality time with my wife but maybe just enough.

My dreams for the future is to expand a bit from the family business that we now run of about 8 people and to just get to sit on the porch and whittle on a stick and admire a pretty gal and wish I was young again and be glad I am not and to cherish my wife and I mean cherish .

The Position I seek is the one of just beeing content and realizing what I know but refuse to submit too.

"Nothing is perfect, but some things are good enough" Its a fine position to hold.

Well nothing wrong with being a bit silly once in while.

Most of you already know this, some may have over looked it, but I believe the most exciting position is that liminal space between when your feet are in contact with the base trim of a Twin Turbine Super Otter and your face is feeling the 120 mile an hour wind while your arms rock you in and out; it's just before your jump into a 47 second freefall from 13,500 feet in the air and it is a good position.

It's so amazing to watch as the plane literally lifts smaller away from you. To be so free, and so helpless at the same time. They never felt that 2000 years ago. ;)

GH, I am very interested in your career as a 'non professional poker player'.

I have to assume that you dodged more than a few bullets in that profession.

Anyway, to answer your original question(s) (and a good one at that):

When I was young I wanted nothing more than to be a Rock and Roll Guitar player.

Today I still want to be a Rock and Roll Guitar player.

The difference is that today I have the wisdom to recognize the difference between reality and fantasy.

So where do I see myself in a few years from now?

Oh, this one is easy: I will be living on an island. An ISLAND! Where? Doesn't matter really, except that it has to be warm and tropical. Carribbean? South Pacific? Thailand? West Coast of Mexico? East Coast of Mexico?

I will be free of the manifold pressures that the Western Materialistic world puts upon me (us).

I want nothing but the sunrise, the smell of the ocean, the feel of rain upon my shoulders, the taste of freshly caught fish, and the sound of the thunder as it rocks me to sleep at night.

Made lot of money playing country boy poker for 3 years once. Made super good running a hold'em game for 2 years another time. Lost a fortune playing with true professions in Ak on 3 occassions.

I have thought of a remote mexican beach life of a king but finally decided I only like it here in the mountains. Used to be you could not make a living just making hats locally and had to do it and other jobs too.

Now a days it is double time work and little time for any thing else.

I actually spend maybe 10 hours actually working on hats in a day but 6 hours on the computer answering email or on the phone.

I used to love poker but got addicted In AK. Sit in 3 small games since I think and had no interest in them just took an elderly neighbor to them. 15 years ago we had 2-300 players in 2-3 counties around that would come to a game and now there is not 10 players left. Kids all learned video games where as I grw up learning to play poker.

Can you and everyone who is not a kid anymore quit about 'Kids today'?

In not a single occasion have I seen complaints about 'kids today' to be warranted. Poker is more popular among teenagers today than it ever has been.

Just kidding! You have to excuse us oldsters for giving the "When I was a kid" analogies. In your defense, it is not fair to lump everybody into the same category. In our defense, we have seen much of what we are talking about within our own communities.

Gladhatter is speaking from his personal experiences and not complaining; just making an observation. I can make many observations about "kid's today" that would infuriate you. They are not meant to be abrasive and can be backed up with pictures, statistics and facts in many cases. Do not take it personally as our parents' generation said the same thing about children of their era (us). Look at what parents must have been thinking in the 70's with the styles of clothes then! It is an observation from those who have seen a few trends come and go. Maybe it is not correct to generalize though, as "kids today" implies "all kids" to me.

As far as video games go, it depends on the locale and the age of the kids as well. I know that kids in the pre-teen age bracket have more experience with video games than I did since I had zero experience. I realize you take offense to these statements, but I am sure these comments are reflecting the change in the world and are not intended as insults to kids, or especially you in particular. Everybody likes to think that things were better when they were growing up. You will too, if you do not yet.

Think of it this way too: for every parent that complains about the way their kids behave, I will show you a parent who did not do their job properly ;)

My favorite position?

It must be the one I am in now (or all of them), since they're very real... and thus very enjoyable because I don't have to dream being them. (Of course, I have dreams about being something more like all of us, but as long as they're not reality I'm not considering them as my favorites.)

And if that was not good enough... I'd also love to be the Emperor of the World. ;)
