I guess it depends on what you mean by structure. I think the movie could have retained all those key elements you listed off, and simply been written better. The Darabont draft pretty much proves...

I can nitpick Last Crusade, but I can't deny it ultimately works as an adventure movie. Crystal Skull doesn't work at all, because its problems go well beyond nitpicks.

Oxley really is a superfluous character when you think about it. His functions in the story seem to be:

1) A motivation for Indy to go to Peru
2) A way of demonstrating the dangers of the skull
3)...

Of course, but the point is Indy tends to be put in situations where a direct or fair fight has to be avoided. And I think with good writing you can definitely come up with scenarios for an older...

The action needs to be dialed down to an extent, but I think people sometimes overstate how physical Indy is in the earlier movies' action sequences, and how critical his physical abilities are in...

The question remains: will he direct something before both of them? He's keeping his schedule suspiciously open for that possibility.

Speaking of Short Round, I had a daydream of an Indiana Jones 5 story that takes Indy back to Asia and has him pitted against Ric Young, the actor who plays Lao Che's son (the one that doesn't die). ...

The time to shoot the movie is now, assuming the script is complete. Waiting until 2019 looks fine on paper, but in reality the next twelve months will see new projects spring up and distract...

Actually it was worse than that. Oxley was always Oxley. The imagined cameo for Henry Sr., I believe, was basically the role Stanforth had at Indy's house after he was fired. And of course he...

Not surprising. They offered him nothing more than a cameo, so he figured it wasn't worth the trouble. Same deal with John Rhys-Davies, only in his case it was even more insulting. They just...

I never used the word "damage." I was suggesting that it's wasteful to take the final (and shrinking) opportunity to have Ford star in one more Indiana Jones movie and squander it by making the...

Crystal Skull's budget was much larger than Spielberg's average, and huge by the standards of an Indiana Jones movie (even adjusting for inflation), which have gotten bigger budgets as they went...

I strongly disagree, but that wasn't my point. My point is that if this is going to be a fifth Indiana Jones movie, it needs to commit to being that. If you don't buy it, you'll stay home, but...

Seems to me the best option is the one where Ford gets maximum screentime in what will in all likelihood be his last performance as Indy. Why would it be ideal for him to be anything less than...

Crystal Skull looks way cheaper than its predecessors despite its larger budget, so I'm really not too concerned if Indy 5 gets more modest financing.

I'd say that's got little to do with the majority of Kaminski's choices in Crystal Skull. The Force Awakens looks close enough to the original Star Wars films, because the effort was made. Crystal...
