I disagree about the similarity to the fights in Republic serials. Many of those fight scenes moved around and ended up with a whole room being destroyed since the 2 adversaries grabbed anything & everything to throw at/smash the other guy over the head with (bottles, chairs, crates & whatnot). Tables got broken, shelves were knocked over, etc. One log in "Skull" can't really compare.

In my opinion, the 2nd Indy vs. Dovchenko fight is dull compared to the ones in "Raiders" & "Doom" because it's essentially just the two of them standing in one place with no extra element involved (like a Flying Wing or rock crusher). The ants confine them into such a small space, there is very little elbow room for a sprawling brawl. Had the fight traveled around a bit more, I wouldn't have found it so mediocre.

As brief as the 1st first fight in "Skull" is (below the warehouse), I prefer it much, MUCH more. On opening day, it was one of the few moments that brought the old feeling back and made me say, 'Now THIS is Indy!", especially when Indy swings on the chain and kicks Dovchenko through the glass.
