Uncharted - the Movie

I have a certain arrangement up the Khyber Pass...

Another year and another writer. Why is this so damn hard? If Sony is determined to adapt Drake's Fortune then it's already written! It really isn't that hard to put to paper -- trim the game-like aspects and tighten up the action sequences, then you're halfway to filming.

Anyway. This time around Sony has tapped Joe Carnahan (Narc) to pen the script. I've only seen one of his movies, but he's pretty active in both teevee with The Blacklist and film with Bad Boys 3.

Joe Carnahan said:
“Archaeology today is in itself an antiquity, but that world has always fascinated me. Especially when you go to a museum today and wonder how a piece got there to begin with,” he said. “Plus, the property itself is so popular that it was hard to turn down an opportunity to work on it.”

Variety asked Carnahan if he'd also step into the director's chair, but opined that it would be impossible unless production was pushed back. He's currently committed to bringing Bad Boys 3 to the silver screen, so he's only contracted for scribbling duties.

Poor Sony. At this point they're going to be the only major studio without a significant presence in the pulp adventure revival.

According to Deadline, Shawn Levy ("Reel Steel", the "Night at the Museum" movies) has been brought on to direct, and the film is apparently on the fast track.

Sony haven't set any summer movies for 2018 yet, so I wouldn't be surprised if it lands there.

Yeah I could see Uncharted in June or August

Unearthed

Elsewhere, for director Doug Liman...
Unearthed is the first of a two-book series to be published next year by Disney?s Hyperion. Its written by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner, the bestselling authors of These Broken Stars, This Shattered World, and Their Fractured Light.

Novel is a YA thriller described as Lara Croft Meets Indiana Jones, set in deep space. Jules Addison and Amelia Radcliffe join forces in a tomb-raiding race on a newly discovered planet to unravel the secrets of an ancient, long- extinct civilization ? only to uncover a revelation that could spell the end of the human race.

The games are already like playing through an interactive movie. I wish they'd just leave this one alone.

So Prequel then? I assume this means it will be centered on him gaining Drake's ring as seen in Uncharted 3. Hopefully it also brings in Nathans brother as we saw in Uncharted 4.

So what is Nathan Fillion teasing?

Brian Crecente said:
Nathan Fillion took to Instagram and Twitter this week to drum up a lot of excitement among both his fans and those of PlayStation action adventure video game ?Uncharted.? But it seems unlikely the ?Uncharted? teases were about the long-in-development movie, according to insiders.

Fillion, Variety was told, has nothing to do with the movie, which still hasn?t seen much progress in recent months.

Are Variety's sources out of date? Playing coy? Is it related to that rumor of a new, dedicated Uncharted studio? How about a new Netflix series? A fun, independent YouTube short?

That looks like the Malay Peninsula on the map, but I guess we'll have to find out on Monday. San Diego Comic Con is coming up soon too! With all pop culture eyes on Southern California, it would be a great time to announce something!

It was a 15 minute fan film. Very good production values.

It was a very well-made short film, with production values that don't pale a bit next to the big-budget productions.

Of course, before we start signing petitions, it's good to keep in mind that it's one thing to do it for 15 minutes, and whole another ballgame to stretch the same quality to 150.

Yup. Certain directors and producers I've interacted with have harder times with making feature-length films than shorts, which are much easier to create, especially due to less limitations (you can create a shorter story without having to go in-depth, the MacGuffin doesn't need to be as big, and they're generally cheaper to make). And as someone who's made a few shorts (of extremely dubious quality before) they can take up to seventy-five percent less of the time it takes to make a feature-length film, which is great when you're working with actors, writers, and production staff on short schedules.

True. Maybe a mini-series would work better for a series like this.
