While a no-photo policy is pretty much the norm for painting exhibits, I only half-expected it for this event.

For temporary exhibits, maybe, but not in my experience for the main galleries. Of course, you can't get away with selling a catalog for the main galleries quite so easily. But there's apparently not a book...

The Ark and oter PROPs have toured before without photo restrictions, after all there are pics in this thread.

This time out it the props are paired up with or rather accompanied by real artifacts. For exhibits like The Dead Sea Scrolls there was no photography allowed. Even though there was low lighting and protective glass, they still did't want to chance damage from camera flashes.

Any which way, I'm sure Stoo will illuminate this shortly.:hat:

It would be damned short sighted if they didn't produce a book for the exhibit, or a virtual tour DVD.

Sounds like a small exhibit.:(

The hand held devices strike me as ill conceived. Too high tech. I'm curious how it performs though.

An audio tour that can be downloaded to a phone/device with Rhys-Davies or Ford narrating would seem in step.

I'm not 100% sure yet but it seems that J. Rhys-Davies was only there for a special advance premiere on the 27th. (Photo by: Eva Blue)

It's baffling because there were no photo restrictions at a Jules Verne exhibit there a few years ago.
This should be rephrashed: There was not a photo restriction for the Jules Verne exhibit there a few years ago.

Quite true although I can think of some exceptions where its verboten (the Louvre in Paris and the Sistine Chapel in The Vatican). The question is: Will I comply to the Science Centre's regulation...or not?;)

6 Year Tour!

This thing is going to be on the road for a lo-o-o-o-ng time...6 years! Here's an excerpt from the National Post (bold type added by yours truly):

"John Rhys-Davies added a touch of Hollywood glamour to the event. The actor, who co-starred with Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, flew in from New Zealand to attend the opening.

Rhys-Davies described the exhibition as ?extraordinary? and thanked Montreal for ?having the people and genius to put it together.?

Montreal is the only city in North America to host the exhibition. It will tour Europe and Asia for six years following the local run.

The backbone of the 929-square-metre exhibition is a winding corridor called The Indie Trail, off which you access four distinct zones inspired by the four stages in an archeologist?s research process. On display are superb materials from the four Indiana Jones movies, including Harrison Ford?s costume, the ?crystal skull,? the Ark of the Covenant and Kate Capshaw?s red sequined dress (actually, Capshaw?s second red dress, since the first one, we learn, got eaten by an elephant.)

The launch of the exhibition coincides with the 30th anniversary of the release of the first Indiana Jones film."

WHA...? No Australia? You'd think they'd take advantage of the Aussie dollar being so high. Some of us can't afford to go overseas!

If this be true, thee cannot express in words, how disappointed thee is....

All I can say is even Magic of Myth and the Star Trek exhibition and even Madame Tussauds have had tours here.

Presumably each international location will feature exhibits from the museum that hosts it ? eg, if the British Museum were to take it on in London, we'd see the alien crystal skull next to the Mitchell-Hedges skull ?

I vote that we try and get at least one member of the read to each location it touches down...

@Violet: The original press release said the "Asia-Pacific" region so that could include Australia.;)

@Inky: You are probably right about local artifacts because I know this one has stuff from the archaeological digs in and around Montreal.

Now, I'm off to the exhibit!(y)

If it doesn't reach Australia don't feel too bad because it sounds like it won't be coming to the US either. It is Indy's home country for crying out loud. Granted we do tend to get most things first but still. If it was in NYC I certainly would have gone.

Not to be flip, but you're about as geographically close as anyone in the States can be to be able to make it up to Montreal with ease.

Excellent!

The exhibit was EXCELLENT and well worth $23. I went with one of my best freinds and his girlfriend. No photography allowed but I managed to take 123 photos & 2 videos and only got caught by an employee once!

One cool highlight was an audio intro from Harrison Ford himself! (I recorded it but the quality isn't very good so I may go back next week to try again.)

There were no pins or posters at the gift stand (sorry, Mitch) but I bought a T-shirt for Rocket Surgeon.:)

Details & photos to come. For now, here's a teaser dedicated to all patrons of The Raven Bar: Whiskey props and Marion's cigar/money box.

Closer than many others but it's still no day trip. Its gotta be at least a 10 hour drive and I would need to spend a few nights in a hotel room. It would be pretty expensive for a trip to a museum plus I would need to find others around here who would be interested in coming with me. Not to mention I already have two trips lined up for this summer, including California and Disneyland. I have never been there before so the Temple of the Forbidden Eye should give me my Indy fix for this summer. Plus they have the actual Truck from Raiders as well as a mine car from TOD. Those are as cool as any prop in this exhibit

Great pic Stoo. Thanks for looking for me anyway. BTW jones. That mine car is not from TOD. Though the truck is from Raiders. We talked about those props at Disney in IndyCast 123

Really, I saw some other places on the internet saying that was a prop from TOD. The Truck is the real prop I am looking forward to, that scene is my favorite in any of the Indy films.

When I was at Disney World they had a bunch of props from TLC, including the tank, citeron, hatay troop truck. I think they have some motorcycles that were used in TLC and also the stunt show. I don't think I saw those on my last trip but I believe I saw them on previous trips. Do you know if they are still at Disney's Hollywood Studios?

Yes the LC items are still at Disney. Though they are rusting away. I was there two years ago and they were in need of some restoration

I've got some follow-up on the stuff at LC, but I'm going to direct it here, so we can let this thread keep on keepin' on.

As for the travel thing: yeah, I've been seriously weighing the idea of a drive of similar length. What do you say, Stoo: worth the trip?
