Games with heavy Indiana Jones influences

Dumbest post of the year? Maybe. Certainly in the Top 5 thus far!

I'll let you figure out why.

Actually, I'd prefer an explanation. I shared the very latest Uncharted game trailer for everyone to check out, not to be insulted.

I remember playing Fred on my ZX Spectrum 48K back in the 80s. The only reason I purchased this game was that it was obviously heavily influenced by Indiana Jones. It actually turned out to be fun (if somewhat repetitive) swashbucking entertainment ... https://www.retrogamer.net/retro_games80/fred/

I can't speak for Le Sab, but the post was a little misplaced because we have a rather prominent Uncharted thread where the newest entry, along with the rest, is being discussed in detail.

I wouldn't call it a particularly dumb post, but it was at least a minor board faux pas regardless.

Strange Brigade | Story Trailer | PS4

From the creators of Sniper Elite 4 and Zombie Army Trilogy comes a rip-roaring 1930s adventure for 1-4 players filled with pulse-pounding action, treacherous traps and tales of derring-do ?

The folks over at Rebellion have released a new trailer for Strange Brigade in the run up to Leak3. It features a new location -- the Hidden Valley -- and a handful of new weapons and various supernatural attacks (that are largely AOE attacks).

Dig it!

The teaser trailer has a definite Indy vibe especially what occurs at its end ...

It definitely has an Indiana Jones vibe from the looks but I had to look up the developer on the Internet because I did not know who they were.
Apparently their previous game was Fire Watch, a title I did see on Steam but it wasn't something I was not very interested in.

Having just read the summary of the storyline of Fire Watch on Wikipedia I do not think this game will story wise not be at all like an Indiana Jones if the designers decide to do a storyline in the same vein for it.
I could be wrong but I strongly urge caution to people who are thinking of pre ordering it.

To me Indiana Jones is mystery with some personal story telling as well but not a focus on trying to uncover secrets about each other, oh and there should be some pulp story action in it.

Strange Brigade. I saw a trailer on this game on the RPG codex a while back.
When I saw it I felt it was more like the Mummy movies with Brendan Fraser than the Indiana Jones movies.
I find it difficult to put in words, but if the Indiana Jones movies were already "bigger than life" then those movies were really over the top sometimes.
It lacks a certain subtlety and being a lot more "in your face"

Gameplay wise I do not think it is really like an Indiana Jones game, even if compared to Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine and Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb. (well not surprising, it is a multiplayer co op shooter)

It feels more like Left 4 Dead with a different skin on top of it.

Oh before I forget, when I saw that trailer for the first time I honestly did not get a "This is a winner" impression from it.

I really hope Strange Brigade will be good. It looks like a blast but I don't hear anyone outside this forum talking about it.

So is it time to break off Strange Brigade into its own thread? Few games are deserving, but the Brigade checks a lot of boxes. Especially following the latest gameplay overview trailer!

I've been playing it for a few days and it's a blast. There are tons of Indy references, including one of the characters yelling "It belongs in a museum!";)

A new thread would be welcome. Maybe we can get a team of Raveners here to team up and have some fun.

"The Legend of Atlantis", now available :

:whip:

I bought this game a few days ago and have been playing it on a Commodore 64 emulator.
Today I managed to finish the game

Now I confess that I used save states in this game but mostly because the one hit kills which really started to annoy me after a while, mostly because enemies in this game move so randomly around and only weapon in the game; the whip is of very limited use. (I really wish the designers had made it so that the whip can be used while ducking, whip upwards and whip at angles)

What about the game itself, it is actually a nice little game with the focus being both platforming and puzzle solving though most of the puzzles revolve around collecting objects and activating hidden switches. Only a couple required good observation of backgrounds.

Is it a good Indiana Jones like game? Well it sort of plays like The Last Crusade but with a focus more on puzzles and avoiding the various animals and later
ghosts

there is also a single boss; a giant scorpion

Story wise do not expect much of this game, there is an intro, an outro, some information on this game's version of Atlantis but that is it. You should definitely play this game for the gameplay alone.

To be honest it is kind of disappointing that the game is set at one location alone. Personally I wish the developers had put in some more levels even if it required a longer time of development.

Would I recommend C64 owners to buy the physical game? After playing the download version I don't think I would buy it because of some of the mentioned issues and because how short it can be if you can avoid the cheap deaths.
I definitely think a buyer needs to be a massive Commodore 64 fan first.

I may have overlooked it, but I don't think anyone mentioned "Heart Of Africa" in this thread yet. Part of the intro music is clearly inspired by the Raiders March (the music starts slowly, but wait a moment and then you'll hear what I mean. It's not a direct copy, but you can hear the influence for sure.)

As for the game itself... it's guy in a hat wandering around Africa looking for lost treasure. So I guess you could say it's vaguely Indy-like, but the overall feel of the game wasn't much like Indy, as there were no real villains, and the search for the lost treasure had nothing to do with saving the world or anything.

This now has a Steam Release date of December 2029 :dead: Is there no TBA option for release dates on Steam or are they just going to reaaaaally take their time on this one?

Would the King's Valley games on the MSX and MSX2 somewhat qualify?

They are pretty simple arcade games but they involve a main character exploring pyramids
