Red Jaguars present!
Following the original announcement a few months back suggesting that Nickelodeon was set to revive the classic game show Legends of the Hidden Temple as a movie, I was skeptical. It has the elements required to make a good movie, but does anybody really care anymore? It's been, what, twenty-one years since it went off the air? You'd probably get a fair amount of nostalgic viewers, but beyond that? I couldn't say. And it's with that in mind that I assumed it would end up in development hell.
So color me surprised when Nickelodeon released the first official trailer at Comic Con today!

Is that -- yes, it is the original host! Kirk Fogg finds work! While it doesn't appear to be a big-budget theatrical release, it looks pretty good. They've spent a couple of bucks on FX work and sets and on-location shooting(?). It's probably second unit coverage, but we'll find out later this Fall!
There are plenty of call backs to the original show, which is nice, but I'll be curious to see how the adventure aspects play out. The kids look way too... clean and stylized. If anything I'll be watching for sheer nostalgia and keeping my fingers crossed that it revives the original game show or becomes its own series of movies.

Michael Walsh said:The TV movie Legends of the Hidden Temple will follow three siblings who break away from a lackluster temple tour in a jungle, finding themselves immersed in a real-life mission comprised of obstacles that they must complete in order to escape alive. The TV movie will feature elements from the original game show including: Olmec, a talking head who knows the secrets behind the temple; The Steps of Knowledge, the entrance to the temple and launching pad for the mission; and cameos from a green monkey, red jaguar, and silver snakes, among others.
