Legends of the Hidden Temple

Red Jaguars present!

Following the original announcement a few months back suggesting that Nickelodeon was set to revive the classic game show Legends of the Hidden Temple as a movie, I was skeptical. It has the elements required to make a good movie, but does anybody really care anymore? It's been, what, twenty-one years since it went off the air? You'd probably get a fair amount of nostalgic viewers, but beyond that? I couldn't say. And it's with that in mind that I assumed it would end up in development hell.

So color me surprised when Nickelodeon released the first official trailer at Comic Con today!

Is that -- yes, it is the original host! Kirk Fogg finds work! While it doesn't appear to be a big-budget theatrical release, it looks pretty good. They've spent a couple of bucks on FX work and sets and on-location shooting(?). It's probably second unit coverage, but we'll find out later this Fall!

There are plenty of call backs to the original show, which is nice, but I'll be curious to see how the adventure aspects play out. The kids look way too... clean and stylized. If anything I'll be watching for sheer nostalgia and keeping my fingers crossed that it revives the original game show or becomes its own series of movies.

Michael Walsh said:
The TV movie Legends of the Hidden Temple will follow three siblings who break away from a lackluster temple tour in a jungle, finding themselves immersed in a real-life mission comprised of obstacles that they must complete in order to escape alive. The TV movie will feature elements from the original game show including: Olmec, a talking head who knows the secrets behind the temple; The Steps of Knowledge, the entrance to the temple and launching pad for the mission; and cameos from a green monkey, red jaguar, and silver snakes, among others.

It looks like The Splat posted a Behind the Scenes video about a month back that gave us our first real look at the interior of the Hidden Temple and Olmec's return! And who knew that Dee Bradley Baker got his start in voicework on this show?!

Another look. A lot of the success will depend on just how good the temple looks.

Host Kirk Fogg spills some of the show's secrets.

One of those trendy 360 degree videos that work better on mobile devices.

Kirk Fogg and Dee Bradley Baker got... old! But they're always fun to listen to.

Not only do I hope that this is god,but wildly popular. I'd love to see a series of flicks, and a revival of the teevee show.

As you set out for Ithaka
hope the voyage is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
Laistrygonians and Cyclops,
angry Poseidon?don?t be afraid of them:
you?ll never find things like that on your way
as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,
as long as a rare excitement
stirs your spirit and your body.

For those of you who're interested, Marvel LIVE! had a nice interview with Kirk Fogg, the show's host. You won't learn anything new, but it's always nice to see him getting some credit.

You can also marvel (ha!) at just how young the two make leads are with this interview.

With just twenty days to go until the premiere -- 26 November 2016 -- Nickelodeon has dropped a new Behind the Scenes video featuring the lead actress Isabela Moner!

Looks good. For a teevee movie, Nickelodeon has obviously spent some money on production values. Now hopefully it's an entertaining flick for more than just the nostalgia value.

Geriaction fans beware! The Chinese and Pre-teens are taking over!
