Customizing Indy Figures

Using acrylics, the face was completely repainted, and I did a wash on the uniform, then drybrushed the whole thing. I also painted his arm band. The figure was then sprayed with Krylon clear matte finish.

glorbes - nicely done man ! Painting / repainting at 1:18th scale requires real skill and you have it in spades. Makes you wonder why, now that Hasbro are pulling off some great sculpts, they go spoil it with sloppy paint.

Have you considered repainting an Indy ? Although they have a decent wash on the jackets, the rest of the figure looks too clean - perhaps some dry brushing on the hat etc ?

To everyone who commented on my Ark Ghost - many thanks. It's my first attempt at moulding / casting - hence the static pose (I wanted to avoid undercuts etc.) If anyone can give me some tips on how to improve my technique, I'll glady attempt a 'flying' ghost !

Inky_Skin, I really like your ark ghost, it looks like it's rising straight up from the ark. Are there anymore customs your going to post here before long? :hat:

How did you make the ghost figure? Can you give a few more details. I think you're on to something there. Is it a Mother Mary kind of religious sculpt. It looks good.
No complaints.
This is going to sound strange but here goes. You just need to loosen it up. The appearance of motion is what you need. Not actual motion. Can that figure be softened and bent?
I do think you are on to something and I want to try something myself. That's why I'd like some details on how you got to that point with the figure.
I hope this post doesn't sound negative because I like what you've done. Hat's off to the ghost. If you got to that point, it's just a small jump to one that appears to be flying out of the ark. You're well on the way.

I've only recently discovered that if you boil up a figure, you can pop it apart at the waist. I'm still a little nervous about doing this, and was wondering if the Indy parts are easily interchangable, or if they're all different sizes like the neck posts?

Specifically I'd like to swap the bottom half of my ROTLA (Idol) Indy with a Crystal Skull Indy.... but only if they're the same size and a perfect fit. As I've only got one ROTLA Indy, I don't want to just try it in case it gets messed up. Anybody tried this?

One customizer on the Cool Toy Review forums took a figure entirely apart to repaint it (I think it was Vogel), so it is possible to do with these figures. As far as interchangeability of parts, I don't know.

Thanks for the heads up... I'll post the same question on there, hopefully someone who's attempted this will see it. (y)

I'm going to be off the customising scene for a month or so, but I wouldn't want to leave you without a teaser of my next project...

I'll leave you to speculate on the recipe :)

"Boil and pop" causes (in my experience) no damage to the figure. While making my customs I've noted compatibility between the waist posts on Indy / Mutt; the arm sockets and balls on Indy / Mutt / 30th Anniversary Ceremonial Luke / Comic Pack Luke and a few others. Oops, there I go giving away my Jock recipe...

Thanks Inky Skin, I've just tried the swap - both came apart easily enough, but ROTLA and KOTCS Indys aren't comapatable at the waist - one of them (ROTLA I think) has a larger, deeper recess around the peghole in the body, and the pelvis is sculped to fit this. Oh well, I've tried it, and put them back as they were, no harm done.

Ok, I wanted to do something that no one has done yet, I decided to make Indy from ROTLA as you see him when he gets on the plane to go to Nepal, I know the jacket he wears in that scene is much different then what you see on the figure, but I'm not sure ow to change it, so I'm pleased as it is. But here are pics.

<a href="http://s259.photobucket.com/albums/hh293/Mean_obiwan/?action=view&current=Picture0263.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh293/Mean_obiwan/Picture0263.jpg" border="0" alt="jnwrthtf"></a>

Also I gave my Mutt figure gloved hands and dry brushed his jacket and some facial hair like the movie,

And I wanted more pics up of my warehouse indy

Very cool! What kind of paint did you use to re-paint the arms?

I used delta cream coat acrylic paint, you can get it cheap at wal-mart. And also sorry fellow customizers but I have no more cstoms planned yet, or none that I have not shown except a saff of ra, but i don't think that needs to have any specific pics.
