Well, 2006 came and is almost gone. Unless you are living to see The Good German, Rocky Balboa, or Night at the Museum, I think it is safe t sum up what was good and what wasn't. I think it is saf to say that Indy 4 won't hit the screens in 2006, but over all I thought 2006 was a heck of a lot better than 2005.

My top 3

Pirates of Caribean 2,
was my favorite flick of '06, I thought by a long shot until
Casino Royale, I am a Bond fan and always likethe movies, but I really thought Craig was great and this was huge flick.
mi:iii a lot of action, and action and action, bt a really great movie, good for Tom!

runners up, X-men, Last Stand, Cars, and Superman Returns.

Big let down for me, Miami Vice, wow Mr. Mann should have stayed home!

"Pirates of Caribean 2,was my favorite flick of '06"

I think it was mine too....

I also enjoyed X-men 3 (Though it could have been much better) and Superman Returns (same... )

My favorite, easily The Departed; Casino Royale was good enough that i saw it twice in theaters. Departed was even cooler for me because I saw it in Boston Common having just come from many of the places the movie is set.

I forgot V for Vendetta was this year.

I don't think Basic Instinct 2 is as bad as everyone says. It was good for a sequel but the first one was still way better.

I didn't have the honour of seeing Nacho Libre.

Little Miss Sunshine would be between middling and good for me and Miami Vice is stinky. Da Vinci Code was also pretty stinky. It could have been much better. And M:I 3 was good but I wouldn't put it on my list of best movies of the year.

I was reminded of one more. Running Scared. I definitely didn't expect it to be so good. That and The Departed and Dummy put Vera Farmiga on my top 10 actresses list.

For me, Little Miss Sunshine was disturbing. I love dark humor, but the parental neglect and the subtext between the daughter and the grandfather was just off. There was nothing redeeming about the story or the characters. It was cheap laughs on top of dark content.

I couldn't even watch V or Nacho to the end. Just awful.

I too am waiting to see Last King -- I hope to catch it next week.

I'll admit that Miami Vice was bad -- but every Mann movie has at least one or two truly affecting scenes/images that really draw me in. I love that in film. One moment, was when the Farrell character reaches over to strap in the mobster chic in the go-fast boat on the way to Havana. But aside from some pretty images, the story was a wreck and I lost interest. Also, the ending sequence was a disgrace -- it looks like it was shot for TV.

I forgot, I'd add Domino as my bottom 'Good' film or the top of my 'Middling.'

This year I truly enjoyed
Pirates of the Caribbean 2
Flags of our fathers
Walk the line
The departed
Devil wears Prada

Haven't seen, because they're not out yet here,Casino Royale and Apocalypto, but looking forward next year.

I disliked WTC,absolutely boring and to me Nicholas Cage is one of the worst actors.;)

I also thought WTC was boring as hell as did my grandmother. Seriously. On the other hand I think Nicolas Cage is a good actor.

Watched The Devil Wears Prada -- and it was O.K. Let's just say that Anne Hathaway is not a major talent. I'd much rather have had a Lost in Translation vintage Scarlett Johanson (sp?) in the lead.

Superman was better than I thought but still a yawner.

In honor of the Oscars (which slid by here with nary a whimper), I've updated my list.

Best:
The Departed – Best simply because of Leonardo DiCaprio's angry-screwed-by-the-world performance
Eight Below – big drop from the Departed to here, but the rare film: clean family fun
Joyeux Noel – flawed & not the greatest – but something very real about the film
The Notorious Bettie Page – great locations and performances but not much depth

Good:
United 93 – Could’ve been a made-for-TV movie but gripping
Hollywoodland – someone, please shoot Adrien Brody (Lane rocks though)
The Illusionist – Ed Norton rocks
The Prestige – some great murky sets
Stick It – Girl Power Activate! Plus The Dude as teen coach.
Inside Man – nice, entertaining early year release (Jody Foster should’ve passed)
Lucky Number Slevin – entertaining but flawed
Marie Antoinette – great visuals & music but bad script – blown opportunity
Flags of Our Fathers – watch the closing credits and be blown away by how much the film looked like the real deal. Otherwise, a yawner

Middling:
Black Dahlia – Swank was odd -- but good period film
Miami Vice – had its moments but not a great film
Pirates 2 (I've forgotten the film but have been told to re-watch)
Down in the Valley – Again, Ed Norton is the man.
Fast & the Furious, Tokyo Drift – I love these films and don’t know why
MI: 3 – ran out of $$$ by the end of the film
Da Vinci Code – yawn
Babel -- not as bad as Crash but still a waste of my time.
Talledega (sp?) Nights – 3 lol moments
Flyboys – some gripping dogfights and that’s all
Failure To Launch – Jessica Dee Snyder is nasty
X:3 – I’ve forgotten this mailed-in third sequel

Stinky:
Superman
You, Me & Dupree
(which should have been titled “You, Me, Dupree and Kate Hudson’s rear”)
V For Vendetta
Basic Instinct 2
Nacho Libre
A Scanner Darkly
Little Miss Sunshine
Crank

Yet-To-View
The Last King of Scotland
Blood Diamond
Children of Men
Dreamgirls
Notes on a Scandal
Science of Sleep
Volver
Little Children
Pan’s Labyrinth
The Queen

If some of these unviewed films don't make my 'Best' list, I think 2006 will be the worst year in film in my adult life.

Liked:

Casino Royale
Superman Returns
V For Vendetta
The Prestige
The Departed
Apocalyto
Rocky Balboa
The Fountain (underrated)
The Da Vinci Code (I had fun watching it)
X-Men 3 (fun movie except for the killing off of Cyclops and the blatant product placement)
Snakes on a Plane (fun movie)

Disliked:

Borat (I like Borat but thought Da Ali G Show was lot more funny)
Pirates of the Carribean 2 (I thought it was fun in a few parts)
Talladega Nights (only laughed a couple of times)

Well 2006 was a very bad year for movies. :( It was the year of the sequels and remakes. With that said my favourite movies of 2006 were Casino Royale and Apocalypto. :gun:

I'm sorry but Martin Scorsese needs to find a good editor. (n)
