Gonzo, being an L.A. resident, you should check this one out.

Repo Man plays like a strange sequel to KotCS: the MacGuffin is a 1964 Chevy Malibu from Roswell which flies away in the end.

This might be where Lucas gets his ideas, from some guy down by the river...

I love this concept, Moe! Repo Man is in my top ten! Don't know how I ended up missing that post of yours.
The best thing about "Repo Man" is the music and I used to listen to the soundtrack quite often (Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Suicidal Tendencies, Iggy Pop). For a much better prequel to "Repo Man", check out "Kiss Me Deadly" (1955) based on the Mickey Spillane novel. Trust me.;) That film and "Split Second" are the best examples of 'atomic noir'.
Moedred said:
Thanks for the link to that photo, Moe, because I've never seen it before!:hat: Last month I bought a 3 DVD documentary set called, "America's Atomic Bomb Tests" and the sign of Camp Mercury in "Split Second" is actually footage filmed by the U.S. government (which was used in more than one Hollywood film) so that UNUSED Doom Town sign is actually an imitation of the real world.

I thought there was supposed to be a picture in Indy 4, of an autographed picture of Willie Scott, sitting(the picture)on a coffee table or something.

Green Fire (1954)

Four years after "King Solomon's Mines", the dashing Stewart Granger wears a fedora again for "Green Fire" but instead of searching for diamonds in Africa, this time he is after emeralds in South America! It's a decent flick with action, romance, and a tense climax. Granger's character carries a revolver at all times and kills people with it.:gun:

Some similarities with "Crystal Skull":

- Riverboat
- Sleeping amongst cargo with hat over face

GreenFire_01_zpsaff00bf1.jpg

- Pulling a gun on a South American aggressor
- Cave entrance high in the hills (he has a shovel, too, as Indy does in "Skull")

GreenFire_02_zpse5ca45f4.jpg

- Remnants of Spanish conquistadors
- Search by flashlight
- Finding a prize gem (no magnetic properties, though!;))

Just watched "Green Fire", thanks Stoo!

A few stand out lines that reminded me of Raiders...

"You're just like me..."

"Go ahead! Blow it up!"

Nice quotes (which passed by me)! There are even more similarities with the other Indy films but I restricted my mentions to only "Crystal Skull".

Tash, my friend, it's very pleasing to know that you hunted this movie down, watched it & enjoyed it!:hat: Being one of the interested few, you get 10 points and a gold star!

(Now, I could tie my 1950s film recommendations into a current thread about an action/adventure movie being SLOW to audiences 30 years after its release...but I won't do that right now.:p)

Similarity - The Skull (1965)

The Skull (1965) is not a Hammer film but it's the same type.

Peter Cushing: Then why did you?
Christopher Lee: Because the skull wanted me to.

Not that unusual, Indy's brother, nor is there anything wrong with it. Some of the greatest directors have done an entire movie twice.

Cecil B. DeMille ("The Ten Commandments" 1923 & 1956)
Zoltan Korda ("The Four Feathers" 1939 & "Storm Over the Nile" 1955)
Alfred Hitchcock ("The Man Who Knew Too Much" 1934 & 1956)

Spooky how those remakes were 1-2 years before "Crystal Skull" takes place.

Why do you think that comparison is "excellent"? Indy smashing blocks with a bigger stone than Mac is not a "reworking" of Robert Shaw destroying the radio. It's not as if Roy Scheider was also trying to wreck the thing.

Out of all the similarities that I've posted over the past year, the post you decide to comment on bears no merit.:p

In both scenes, an object was about to be destroyed by one character, but the other character thinks they are about to get beaten. It's the exact same sight gag. Why do I think it's "excellent"? Because it has the same beats. Because it was a less obvious similarity. Because I was in a good mood that day. Or maybe just because. Who cares.

Here's my question:

Why are you such a dick?

Well, that's my mistake then. Quite recently, I bought the 30th Anniversary 2-DVD edition of "Jaws" and didn't notice the similarity. However, I'm not as familiar with Indy 4 as with the previous 3, therefore, didn't remember that Mac thought Indy was going to beat him with the stone. (See, I'll admit when I'm wrong but if Halloran had actually bothered writing something to go along with his screengrabs, I wouldn't have questioned it.;))

So, yeah, nice one on Halloran's part.

Personally, I think that "Split Second" is the most excellent similarity so far.

The Magnetic Monster (1953)

In "The Magnetic Monster" (1953), there are scenes with various, metallic objects moving about but one part brought "Crystal Skull" to mind. While trying to find the source of the magnetism, a man grabs a handful of metal washers and throws them in the air to see where they go. They get stuck to the ceiling:
