Customizing Indy Figures

Ok, here is my Ark. Like I said, I am not completely happy with the poles. I think they should be longer for starters and, though I really tried hard, I couldn't get the red/yellow part to look very good. It was done by wrapping thread around the poles...sounded like a good idea at the time:rolleyes: I might try again with some ribbon or something. Anyway, here it is.

BTW, the Raiders Indy came with my Akator playset...it has the best paint apps I have seen on this figure!

Hey, that's pretty cool! I'm gonna give that a shot. How did you attach the brass rods? I agree that the wood stalves could be a bit thinner and if you had a paper printout of the fabric pattern to wrap around them it would probably look a bit closer to the original, but don't be so hard on yourself- this was a balsey custom and I think the results are quite satisfying... heck , you've inspired me!

Great job!

Looks great, Billy Ray!! I may just have to give that a shot as well. Overall it looks really good being carried by Indy and Sallah, even if it isn't 100% screen accurate. I personally think the wrapped thread looks really nice; I would probably choose the textured look of the thread over the more accurate paper printout, but maybe that's just me. The width of the poles looks fine to me, too.

Thanks everyone for your kinds words. The size of the brass tubing is 7/32 X .014. I got it at Hobby Lobby. I cut it with a Dremel. Looking at that side on image that Golden Idol posted, I now realize they are way to wide:rolleyes: I was using the pic in the latest issue of the Indy magazine for reference which shows the ark at an angle. Oh well, not a major issue fo r me.

I mounted the rings the old fashioned way...Super Glue. I had envisioned the yellow/red patterned part looking much nicer, but it was a pain the @$$ wrapping that thread by hand. I really like the concept, but I don't think I had the patience to really make it look good...it was pretty frustrating as it was, I had to keep unwinding and rewinding...maybe I will give it another go with the thread or another material, but I am also going to make a set of poles with the pattern that Golden Idol sent me (thanks again)

The Ark mods are great! It really improves the look of the accessory by a considerable amount. I may have to borrow this idea :D

Nice work Billy Ray. Now if only Hasbro would've given us a 12" Sallah so I could recreate this scene with my 12" Indy and 12" Ark.

The perfect starting point for a custom Well of the Souls playset!!

Check out this thread on Rebelscum!! I about jumped out of my seat when I saw how PERFECT that would be for a Well of the Souls set. It even has a breakaway wall!! Just needs a repaint and a little modding and it would be fantastic.

Just imagine it sand-colored and filled with snakes! Oh man. I have to get my hands on one of these.

Check out the images on the back of the box in this link. Those other two playsets on the back of the box, "The Chamber" and "The Altar" look pretty sweet too!

Like I said, I was unhappy with the way the poles on my Ark came out so I redid them today. I used an image of the red/yellow portion that Golden Idol sent me (thanks again man!), printed out on some label paper. I also made the poles a tad bit longer. I was going to use some bamboo skewers I found in a drawer at home this time but they were actually slightly bigger in diameter than the dowel I used. Anyway, here is the Ark 2.0:

Looks much better this time around. Great job! Glad my designs helped.

I should try label paper too.

Can you post a pic of your Indy's head? I'd like to see his great paint apps. :)

Very Cool! The paper is a big improvement and I really don't mind the thickness of the sticks especially now that they're longer! I have to do this now. Is there any way to post the pattern so that we can all download it?

Coming soon

Hey gang,

I got an Indy, Shorty, and Chief Temple Guard on Friday from Amazon.com and just finished repainting the head on Indy. This is absoloutly, positively the best (hatted) head yet. It's really beautiful. I'm have to head out to work for a few hours, but I'll try and photograph and post him tonight. I can't wait for you all to see him!
I'm also working on some customs including Colonel Dietrech, Indy in Nazi disguise, and I've repainted the heads on the Nazi soldier 2 pack. I'll be able to post the Nazi Head repaints, but I'm not to crazy about posting wips so I think I'm going to wait before I post Dietrech- but I think he's going to be very cool!

Anyway... hopefully I'll have some pics tonight!

I completely agree on the TOD Indy head...best likeness so far. Really wish I could find just a couple more of him for customs, but I'm not holding my breath.

Plus my Indy in German Soldier disguise is done (I actually dremeled out one of the German Soldier's hats to fit Indy...I just need to find an accurate rocket launcher or mod the RPG to finish it)

Can you please post a pic of your figure, even if you don't have the rocket launcher yet? I'm anxious to see it! :whip:

New head repaints

Hey all!
I took some pictures of my new head repaints. Comments and riteria are welcome. The German guys aren't so great. It looks like if it's not a portrait of someone in particular the sculpt isn't so hot. Anyway, I hope you like them!

Wow. Indy looks awesome!

The first soldier looks good, but the second looks like he took a beating from Indy. Hey, I guess that sorta fits! :)

Yeah! He had a little mishap when I sprayed him- for some reason the pastel that I used to shade him got all splochy- I'll probably do him over, but I thought the affect was kind of cool so I posted him anyway.
Glad you like the others, though.
