(honestly, the twist ending of DMC is the most shocking, blow-your-balls-off HOLY SH!T moment in movies ever...When I saw the ending in the theater, when Capt. Geoffrey Rush descends the stairs and with a wicked grin says, "So tell me...what's become of my ship?" I nearly blew up! BARBOSSA'S BACK?!?!?! F*UCK YEAHHHH!!!!!!!

OMG do I agree. Tears, literally. I was so happy. :D

Don't know if I'd be that excited for a similar Imhotep scene, but yeah I understand what you're talking about.

Calling all Mummy fans!!! Calling all Mummy fans!!!

I have finally created a Mummy movie wiki at Wikia.com, and I need some support, help and volunteers to help contribute articles and stuff. Please help, with any luck this will turn out like the excellent POTC Wiki or Wookiepedia! Calling all Mummy fans!!! Calling all Mummy fans!!!

To quote a friend of mine:

"THIS IS SERIOUS!!!"-Dr. Jones :hat:

(I was originally going to have this post as a new thread, but I just thought it be easier to just post on my Mummy Analysis one, for the sake of just adding more replies to the thread...) Honestly, I hope this thread continues to grow because I really love discussing, analyzing and just plain talking about the Mummy films! :gun:

The first film, The Mummy, was great. It blew away my eleven-year-old self when I saw it in theaters. (11?! Has it really been that long? Whoo... I feel old.) A fun adventure romp, very Raiders-esque. Love, love, love the film.

Just my feelings exactly. ;)

The Mummy barowed some sceens from Raiders of the Lost Ark; for instance when Evee first see's the mummy and screams and pushes her back up against the wall, thats just like when in Raiders Marion (while in the Well of Souls) sees all the (inanamate) mummys and does exactly what Evee did. And then remember when Rick runs around the corner with sord in hand and you then hear a roar and he runs back sreaming with a gagle of mummies behind him. Thats right from Temple of Doom.

O.K., I'm sorry if somebody already made those points.

Umm... No, those didn't get me excited. lol

I think rather than doing more Mummy movies, they should have spun the franchise off using the same characters. Think of all the cool stuff they haven't done with Indy. Why not use Rick, Evelyn, and Jonathon for say.... Atlantis? That would have been cooler I think.
I had hopes that they were going to do something like that. Rick, Evie and Jonathon as a team getting into adventures all over the world, but not necessarily with mummies every time ! Of course they'd have to change the name of the franchise then; maybe call it "O'Connell" or something.

Alright, folks, I'm finally going to post my stuff on the Mummy films' similarities to Indy.

This is a well-known topic, I am aware of that. But the whole point of this thread is to re-examine the Mummy franchise, and to hopefully realize just how much of a debt they pay to Indy. In the two current films, there are literally dozens upon dozens of tiny little similarities and references. Let me point out a few that my Indy-seeking eye spied:

1. In The Mummy Returns Alex rides down a pillar in an egyptian temple, knocking it down and causing a dominoes-effect reaction. The camera angles and the overall look of the shot is strikingly similar to the scene in Raiders where Indy topples over the Anubis statue.

2. In The Mummy Returns Evey and Rick enter the room containing the Bracelet of Anubis...and there are tons of scorpions and spiders littered across the floor. This scene is a straight cousin of the bug-critter scene in Temple of Doom.

3. Also, in the sequel, as Rick and Evey return home in London, and Evelyn is trying to convince him to go off on another trip, in this scene Rick is wearing a fedora. This scene is like Indy fan porn when we see Fraser in this getup...it's just so nostalgic.

4. In The Mummy the sacrifice scene at the end has an odd similarity to the Wrath of God ending of Raiders, where Ank-su-namun's soul rises from a bog in a ghostly, purple oozey spirit. This reminded me of the ghosts that cam out of the Ark.

5. The Medjai are basically a Muslim, Egyptian spin on the Brotherhood of the Something-something that tries to keep secret the Grail's location from Indy and Elsa in Last Crusade...except the difference is that the Medjai are 50,000,000 billion times cooler, with Ardeth Bay being the most kick-ass, secret soceity-chieftain to ever walk on the silver screen.

6. In The Mummy the Book of Amun Ra is kind of like the Ark in Raiders, in that both is the MacGuffin of their specific movies. Same goes for the Bracelet of Anubis/Holy Grail and the upcoming Terra Cotta army/Sankara Stones.

7. In the Mummy Returns the jungle of Ahm Shere evokes the South American jungle in the Raiders' prologue, and the Pygmy Mummies are like a miniature, evil-little-muthers version of the Hovitos.

8. I have a feeling that the pyramid that will appear in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is going to have a similar role as the Gold Pyramid in The Mummy Returns.

9. You guy's probably didn't know this, but the biplane used in The Mummy is the very same plane used for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade when Indy and Henry Sr. escape the zepplin.

10. Last, but not least, Imhotep is kind of similar to the sadistic cult leader, Mola Ram (who I personally think is the best Indy villain. He uses children as slaves, for god's sake!)

These are only a tiny fraction of the hundreds of little things I noticed in the Mummy films. I think it is clear to all that this series is a genuine homage to the Indy movies, and when KOTCS finally comes to pass, the Mummy will continue to support us depressed Indy fans and make up for the absence of any new Indy flicks. Stephen Sommers may be heading the way of the Michael Bay, but what he created with The Mummy was a universe and film series that manages to capture the same goofy, gee-whiz spirit and sense of amazing adventure that made the Indy trilogy so damn brilliant. I hope the Mummy series continues on for many, many years, and that by the end Rick and Evelyn and Alex O'Connell finally find a well-earned place in the annals of great adventure-movie heroes...

Please reply.

I just checked up on Rob Cohen's webpage and he has made a new post that reveals a few story elements of Tomb of the Dragon Emperor! The movie will have an elaborate chase sequence set in the busy streets of Shangai ("Anything Goes" comes to mind here) during a New Year's celebration. Rick and his pals have hijacked a cart containing tons of fireworks, and are pursuing the Dragon Emperor who is fleeing in his chariot. To see his newest entry, click on the link that I provided above in a past comment.

Also, Cohen reveals a great bit of trivia that Jonathan in this film has used the diamond he snatched at the end of Returns to get rich, and has started up an Egyptian-themed nightclub. And guess what it's called?

IMHOTEP'S. :D :D :D

Damn, this movie is going to be SO much fun!!!

The problem with the Mummy sequel is much the same as what the first suffered from; it's shîte, and has very few redeemable qualities.

They're almost as bad as those hideous, overlong, dull, inane Pirates of the Carribean movies.

Aw, crud...now I've got a huge urge to create a big fat post defending the POTC trilogy. Since this is a thread devoted to analysis and reactions/expectations for the Mummy films and its future, I must not...

*Sigh* :(

Ugh. Makes my stomach turn. :(

They may have been better off getting an unknown that looks like Weisz and then killing her in the first 10 minutes of the movie.

We'll see how Bello does though. I'm not willing to totally give up hope. Maybe she'll be okay. But no one is Evie. Only Weisz is Evie to me.

I must say I was pretty impressed with the two Mummy films starring Fraser.

Without having seen 'The Mummy' at the cinema, I'd bought the DVD for the special FX features because I'd heard they were good. When I ended up seeing the film without any expectations, I enjoyed it quite a lot.
That was years ago.

A few months ago I bought Returns because my girlfriend had seen it on tv once and quite liked it. Again, I started watching it without too much expectations and again I had a great time watching it. In fact I had no idea why a lot of people have dragged the sequel through the mud... Maybe it wasn't as good as the first one, but it came pretty close in my opinion.

My girlfriend had also seen and enjoyed 'The Scorpion King' so because of that, I gave it a try yesterday. I must say I watched it with much less expectations then the two Mummy movies for several reasons... Not only was it a spinoff without any of the principal Mummy actors, but I knew it was going to be a different sort of film altogether... Much more Conan than Indy, if you know what I mean...
Also, I had little confidence in The Rock... Not that I'd ever seen him in a movie prior to that, but I didn't think a wrestler turned actor could deliver.

Guess what? The Rock did deliver, and his acting skills didn't bother me for a second. All prejudices fell apart and he was perfectly believable as the Akkadian warrior.

For the third time in a row, I had a blast watching it and I can't wait to see 'The Mummy 3' on the silver screen. Heck, we'll probably go see the upcoming scorpion King prequel too! ;)

I have one question though... maybe Kongisking can answer it...
I noticed that 'The Scorpion King' is an American/German/Belgian co-production. Being a Belgian, I'd really like to know what the Belgian contribution to the movie was...
I did visit Universal Studios during the summer of 2002 when they were shooting the movie there, but I doubt that had anything to do with it... ;)

when i first saw the mummy in theatres i was just blown away by the action adventure fun ride which immediatly reminded me of Indy. For the last years it was good to have something with the spirit of Indy but still different.
And in 2008 we have INDY 4 and Mummy 3. This is just great.
Whereas Indy will always be oldschool old fashioned moviemaking, the mummy is somehow a modern version of Indy with things i dont want to see in an Indiana Jones picture but that are perfect for the mummy adventures.
The best of both worlds.
Indy is oldschool, which is just perfect and which is what i want to see, The mummy 3 will have a lot of sfx and cgi which is perfect for the mummy series.

I think the adventure spirit of these movies has a lot to do with the time these movies are set in, because it is perfect for adventure and romantic and adds certain charme and charisma to the movie.

I am all in for action adventures set from the 1850s to 1950s. I just love the atmosphere and the life of these times.

Belgian? Don't recall that. Hmm, where'd you find this out?

Plus, nice to see yet another faithful Mummy fan on here. A toast, pal! :hat:

They aired 'The Scorpion King' on TV not so long ago and they mentioned in a local TV guide that it was an American/German/Belgian coproduction.
Thinking it was an error, I double checked on IMDB.com and they stated the exact same thing:
"Country: USA / Germany / Belgium"

I'm really curious what the Belgian contribution was because to my knowledge, Belgium never coproduced a film like 'The Scorpion King'... My country did a huge number of coproductions over the years with other countries but they were almost always independent art films.
I wonder how I could find out more...

does anyone the date when the teaser or trailer of the mummy 3 will debut?

i read rob cohens blog and he mentions it a lot of times but not when.

I read a description of the trailer somewhere, after the trailer was shown at a convention at the end of march, so it must be finished.
