Fate. of. Atlantis.

Unless you utterly hate yourself and don't want to do yourself a favor, I suggest dropping everything you're doing and picking up the Talkie version immediately.

The ones made in last decade, Emperor's Tomb and Infernal Machine are pretty standard action-platformers in vein of Tomb Raider, though ET has a pretty neat close combat engine thrown in, but they're quite mediocre if you think them just as games. Not that you wouldn't get a few hours' worth entertainment out of them.

Then there's FoA... ah, I really shouldn't even get started so I'll just say: Get it. Hold it. Love it. Embrace it. Make sweet... ehm, well, it's an elderly game but a damn good one, I mean.

Alright, what is all of this "going into production" business? I guess the complete lack of news in nearly two years should have told us something, but I have always held onto the hope that the movie and this game would be realeased at the same time....I envisioned playing this game this summer at the latest:mad: . Going into production sounds like, besides the SanFran screens, they haven't really even started work on this puppy:(

Unfortunately the game is delayed due to a variety of reasons:

1. LucasArts' current President (Jim Ward) is almost purely marketing-driven. This should come as no real surprise... since he's also VP of Marketing for Lucasfilm on the whole. Their games are almost always released around mult-licensing event windows now. So as soon as Lucas officially announced INDY IV it was decided that the video game would wait until after the movie, for optimum awareness... even though the game has (or, had) nothing to do with the movie at all.

2. LucasArts got a huge... uh... hard one for their "Star Wars: Force Unleashed" project and almost all of their internal personnel were put on that, which has further delayed development on the INDY game. This was made even worse when they decided late in the process to also develop a version unique for the Wii... that not only took even more resources, it also delayed "The Force Unleashed" itself for at least 6 months to a year.

3. It's now entirely possible that LucasArts/Lucasfilm are not keen on the idea of releasing an INDY game that cannot directly tie into KOTCS. One theory (and this is just a theory... not even a real rumor) is that the game is being retrofitted as a KOTCS game. I really hope this does not happen.

Whatever the case, it's a damn shame. LucasArts actually started work on this INDY game before "The Force Unleased". In fact, they announced it in May 2005 at E3 (ALMOST THREE YEARS AGO!) and showed the game footage at E3 2006, before even a frame of "Force Unleashed" was rendered. But they have apparently tossed it aside and are just now realizing "Wow! Indiana Jones is building up steam fast! We better get this thing out there!!!"

In the end, it all comes down to one thing: $$$$

We can only hope the game (whatever it is and whenever it actually ships) is even half as good as it could be.

Trust me, that won't happen. If it does, I'll eat my hat.

I certainly hope it doesn't happen. I suppose it just depends on how far along they were in development of the game before they apparently shelved it to focus on "Force Unleashed".

Of course, the irony now is that the "Force Unleashed" may not be nearly as big an event as they were hoping/planning. It might get completely overshadowed by the new "Clone Wars" which has a theatrical release and a ton more product tie-ins going for it.

I just can't believe LucasArts neglected the INDY license this badly. Or, actually I *can* believe it, sadly. :(

When the new Indy game was originally announced, didn't they say it would somehow tie into the new movie, but not be a "movie game".

They did say that....but maybe they should have said the game was going to tie in with the dvd release of the new movie:p

I think this game is further along than they are letting on. Maybe it's me, but I think the marketing dept. over at LucasArts does not want to release 2 Indy games that would be in competition with each other-so they are debuting Lego Indy first to cash in on KOTCS fervor- then when the movie hits the dvd shelf, there will be the tie in with the next gen Indy game. Maximum profits.

This is George Lucas we are talking about...

The game will be released to coincide with the Special Edition re-release of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. ;)

Aw, please don't say 2009, or never...

Upon hearing the news from a LucasArts source that the latest Indiana Jones game has only just entered production, that the last five years were a pre-production period that yielded trailers but no title, that it won't be out until at least next year and that the show LucasArts put on back in 2006 was just smoke and mirrors, this was my response: "[censored]!!!"

What matters is that Jones won't be appearing in a new console adventure anywhere near the same time he'll be showing up in movie theaters. It's also entirely possible that the game might have been quietly canceled and there aren't any plans for development in the near future; none of this has been officially confirmed, but Mojo has a pretty reliable track record on breaking stories like this. One thing is certain, though: if the game is at this stage of development, it probably won't be appearing on shelves until late next year, at the soonest.

That's terrible news....kinda reminds me of the Eastwood voiced, Dirty Harry game that kept slipping into that postponed abyss until it was finally canceled. I really hope that this is just a marketing ploy like I said before- I just can't see how LucasArts could douche-out like that on an Indy game.

Well , at the NYCC08 Lucasfilm Panel, good 'ol Stevie Sansweet gave a rundown of everything on the 2008 agenda(Force Unleashed,Lego Indy, Indy dvds,Clone Wars, ect)...and you guessed it-no next gen Indy game. Those hacks over at LucasArts deserve to have their still-beating hearts ripped, out and set on fire by Mola Ram:mad:

Awe, damn, that's a shame. I was REALLY looking forward to this game. At least we're getting another Indy game this year. Oh well, maybe we'll get it in 2009? *Fingers crossed*

Nuts.

This game was my main excuse for buying a PS3. I'm going to be so miffed if they just up and cancelled it. Maybe they're waiting to see how well KotCS does...

But, darn it, I want a new Indy game with an orignal storyline.

I agree. But honestly, I think we're going to get it. It might take awhile, but there's been an Indy game on almost every console since the early 80's. And especially with a new Indy movie almost here, I don't see a reason why there shouldn't be.

Kids are going to see the movie and want to be him, and nowadays the closest thing is a video game. Hell, if Indy 5 isn't realistic, then I wouldn't mind the Indy film franchise to continue in video game form.
