Another Reason to hate the French
What is there to hate? The report says, "competitors in New Zealand and California are reportedly working on similar projects."

Some grapes are green and so is envy.:D:p

Is it too late to call them up, for this evening? Anyone else have any last minute suggestions for 12:00 AM this morning?

Wine.com is selling one of 12 limited edition bottles of ?Ampoules of Penfolds 2004 Block 42 Cabernet Sauvignon.? It?s a rare, single-vineyard wine from a Cabernet Sauvignon vine that was transported from France to Australia in the 1830s, says Rich Bergsund, CEO of Wine.com. The 750ml of wine is encased in a hand-blown sealed glass case or ?ampoule,? and suspended in wooden cabinet, crafted by four Australian artisans. The sealed glass helps the wine retain primary fruit and delicate aromas for a longer period than an ordinary corked bottle, according to Penfolds. Penfolds made only 400 cases of the wine itself.

P.S. the price tag is above 150K....

Wifey took me to P.S. this weekend, post Bday, post Pink Slip day...and what do we find when we get there? Nothing but a blazing fire in the mountain above us which rained down smoke and ash on us while we were there. At least if we were outside.

Never the less we perservered, mostly because I got to enjoy the nice Zinfandel noted here. It was fantastic. We watched Casino in bed together, with the A/C at 74f, ate well, and caught up with each other. It was nice.

Any suggestions for Thursday?

WOW I have been away form this thread for far too long! I have missed gold here!

Ok Turkey day is fun. It is a meal where we put a lot different flavors on one plate. So you can not look at each item by itself you need to think about all the flavors running together.

Turkey - Med Minus body dark meat a bit more flavor - Pinot or light Sangiovese

Turkey Gravy - lots of variation - basically adds salt and some creaminess so maybe pinot with some oak (German Spatburgunder from AHR, or New World Pinot)

Stuffing - lots of herbs, sometimes spicy sausage - Southern Rhone Chateaunueff du Pape

Sweet Potatoes (hold the marshmallow) adds sweetness and starch - Gewurztraminer or Riesling

Brussel Sprouts - Green veggie acid - Gruner Veltliner

Now if you do not want to have 10 bottles open do one white and 1 red -

Go Austrian Gruner Veltliner, German Riesling (Kabinett or Spatlese), or maybe a gewürztraminer from Alscae with some age

Red - Gotta go Cru (like St. Amour or Morgon) Beaujolais (not nouveau), Domestic Pinot or dry creek zinfandel!

Anyone else try this "Best" rose?

I got it for the Mrs. when she passed her 6 year anniversary for her job. We were surprised at it's lackluster, and couldn't think of what it'd go best with. Any ideas?

I am not a rosé fan for the most part BUT I do like this one. Great wine making family and the celeb bit is cool as well (I am not a hater). It think it does what it should very well and is a decent price! I LOVE these wines very cool with any type of salami or other cured, dried, salted meats. Also great with a good wood oven baked pizza (or any pizza) chill it to have by the pool and much one about anything fresh and summery!

Congrats on the 6 year mark!

Here's a question that is a response to the titular question:

Am I pretentious if I use this app?. Seems privacy advocate Pale Horse is now connected to the grid with his android. So, why not use it to enhance life...

I know wine is meant to be physically enjoyed, and believe me I do. So, is this really necessary, are any of you using an app for epicurean delights?

I'm down with privacy too, Pale, but a dead image link might be taking things too far...

Hmmm. I'm currently showing an image, (and in your quote, too). Where's our <s>drunk</s> technical European cohort?

Huh, odd. That first one wouldn't even load for me when opening it in its own tab.

This new one opened fine, though, and looks snazzy. I'm not a wine guy, but taking notes on one's recurring consumer pleasures always seems like a good idea.

I guess the key question is how broad the base of reviewers they're drawing on is, and to what extent you can trust their palates.

Most excellent. Thank you. Wifey sprung for passes. I'm heading over for dinner next Friday night. I will use the recommended APP to as a supplement to the services I will be receiving next weekend.

I enjoy nice (craft) beers, being a home brewer who is considering making the leap to commercial brewing sometime in the near future.

I very much enjoy wine and Australia has some very nice offerings.

Saturday night just gone I had a 2013 Wynns Coonawarra Cab Sav. It was a big, bold, tart and somewhat herbaceous drink. Weighed in at 13.5%. Australian wines are big in alcohol. Apparently dry seasons do that by concentrating the sugars in the fruit. Is this correct?

Actually 13.5% for a new world cab is almost low! Coo aware aid actually a cooler region. The warmer the weather the more ripe - the more sugar which equals more alcohol. But you are right Ozzie Rds can be very stout. I am glad you enjoyed it!

I know wines are getting up to 14.5% or maybe higher. I'm no big drinker, in fact I am a bit of a two pot screamer. At 14.5% I really feel the wine quickly. What is high for wines in your experience, Roundshort? What do you drink in California?
