The second of the Flashback Map Packs hits the Playstation Store tomorrow, February 21st! Available when the store updates -- around 5pm PST -- it includes four additional maps from Among Thieves, and raises the total number of available multi-player maps to 19!

The Plaza, Village, Train Wreck, & Temple (#@!&#!) have been updated with all new lighting & particle effects, and other whiz bang technical stuff, that only the Drake's Deception engine could provide. It's available for free starting tomorrow for all Fortune Hunter's Club members or for the princely sum of $9.99!

Dig the trailer! I'd say it was fake if it didn't come directly from Naughty Dog! (Because nobody goes after the idol in Plunder!)

Gannador!

The above image was rather coyly posted at the end of Naughty Dog's last Drake's Deception blog post. What was it for? The Dogs wouldn't say except to look out for news in the coming weeks. Some of us thought it had something to do with the djinn/fire demons/whatever that appear in the latter half of the game, and it turns out we were right!

uncharted3shadecoop530.jpg

Set to drop in March of this year, the Co-Op Shade Survival Mode pits Drake & Co. against what appears to be a horde of djinn/fire demons/whatever in a duel to the death. Little else aside from the name was announced, but do check out the full post for the full-res picture.

If you're like me and were slightly disappointed that they weren't featured more, then you should be eagerly expecting this new game mode! More so if the Cursed Spaniards, Yeti, and Guardians make an appearance!

Stay tuned for more details as always!

Naughty Dog has released the trailer for what they've announced as the next-to-final piece of DLC for Drake's Deception, the Co-op Shade Survival Mode!

Eric @ Naughty Dog said:
The Djinn haunt this mode as you and your friends will be assaulted by wave after wave of progressively more demanding opponents. There are eight rounds in total. The Djinn?s ability to catch fire and teleport poses a formidable challenge to team strategy and coordination. Later rounds include highly skilled Djinn sporting extra armor and firepower so get ready for a hearty battle.

Check out the full announcement over at Naughty Dog's official site. Once you're done reading, feel free to join in on the teeth gnashing with the minor debacle that the Fortune Hunter's Club has become!

The Co-op Shade Survival Mode drops on the 13th of March @ the Playstation Store.

Drake's Deception is nearly six months old now and Naughty Dog has pumped out a significant amount of DLC... of varying quality. While it hasn't been formally announced yet, the final bit of DLC has been teased.

The Ship Graveyard

The Old Quarter

The Oasis

Considering that each of the previous map packs contained four individual maps, there should be one more map included with this final offering. I'd put money on something from the South American part of the campaign since it's the only region unrepresented thus far.

You can check out the full set of teaser images on Naughty Dog's Flickr page.

I"m most looking forward to playing in The Oasis, but take a look at the shots for the Ship Graveyard and tell me that it doesn't look like you'll be able to flank your opponents and/or perform stealth take downs underwater?!

Dig these. You've either read it or heard it all before, but it's still worth watching again. Here's a creative team that still gets it.

The 4th one is London Streets

Merde! Je deteste Londres! I would've sworn that the Dogs would have done something for Cartagena. A rain drenched fight through the streets of Colombia's fifth largest city would have been a very much appreciated.

Well, maybe there'll be a future map release that we'll be able to look forward to! Though, with development on The Last of Us speeding rapidly along, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

We do have a release date, though! The Drake's Deception Map Pack debuts on the Playstation Network on the 10th of April!

Gannador!

Naughty Dog said:
We put a lot of love and polish into each map and each map has a new dynamic event that occurs as the match progresses. A patrol boat will circle the border of Graveyard launching grenades over the map as it cruises along its path. In Oasis, a plane drops a shipping crate that can flatten you or your enemy if you don?t move out of its way in time. The crate contains a power weapon if you?re smart enough to stay out of the crate?s shadow. London Street and Old Quarter contain dynamic events as well but we want to leave you a couple big surprises now don?t we?

The pack will set you back $9.99 by itself or is available to Fortune Hunter's Club suckers gratis. Once the pack does drop, the club's doors will be shuttered and barred. In other words, this is the last bit of DLC you'll be entitled to. Everything else afterwards you'll have to purchase.

And for those of us who dabbled around with Among Thieves' multi-player component, then you might welcome the return of The Lab.

Just a brief update today.

If you've taken a gander at The Art of Uncharted 2 from Ballistic Press, then you know that the stories don't spring forth fully formed like Minerva herself. No, a lot of work goes into developing what eventually glimmers to life on teevee monitors everywhere. A lot of that work ends up on the cutting room floor, but IGN has put together a sampling of some of the concept art that didn't quite make the final cut in Drake's Deception.

Take a look at 'em over here.

Have you seen this? It appeared on the EU Playstation Visage Livre page earlier. Nice design, quick and dirty bit of history, and a slew of uselessly cool statistics!

Note the gaping holes on Africa and most of South America. Those holes desperately need to be filled.

That's a beautiful infographic!

Le Saboteur, you hear about the upcoming 1.11 patch?

A few changes, but most noticeably:

• Plunder and Team objective kills/deaths do not affect your stats

• Game quits still effect your K/D and the match will count as a loss.

video of patch notes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1r_JtQHbGk

Plunder should be incredibly epic in the near future!

I did! Some good things there, but, like you said, Plunder should be fantastic. I downloaded the Drake's Deception map pack the other day, and I'll definitely give it a go here in the near future.

Has anybody else seen this yet?

In the end, someone suggested Uncharted, with its outstanding visuals, set pieces, music, and character design. The game seemed to come together very easily, with cards you play representing the various weapons, actions, or set pieces, and another randomized deck featuring treasures to discover and enemies to fight. We even had a great system for cover being used, enabling players to mitigate their damage accordingly.

How did we manage to fall back to the second page? Unacceptable!

It's certainly been quiet regarding news on further adventures in the world of Uncharted what with The Last of Us hogging the spotlight, but there have been some significant behind-the-scenes developments. For starters, Richard Lemarchand, lead designer on the series, has left the company to join USC's School of Cinematic Arts.

He spoke with Gamasutra before departing on a backpacking trip 'round the world.

Richard Lemarchand said:
I was involved with the development of the Uncharted series not quite from the beginning, but almost... and even though the Uncharted series isn't intended to be viewed as a trilogy, maybe there's something about the number three that felt... there is a certain amount of completeness for me," he says.

Check out the full article here.

Sony also announced that the Uncharted series has sold 17.3 million units since '07.

Did you, Allah forbid, miss Drake's Fortune and/or Among Thieves? Well, now here's your chance to pick up both in digital format! As of 26 June 2012, both games are available to download from the PSN Store for $29.99/each; or, both games can be had in a digital dual pack for $39.99! Not a bad deal at all.

Be forewarned though, broadband is a necessity as the downloads range from 20-to-42 gigs! Check of the Playstation Blog for specifics.

IGN also had the opportunity to sit down with Richard Lemarchand before he departed Naughty Dog, and finally got around to posting the results of that chat in a nifty article, "Did Uncharted 3 Change Too Much?"

Richard Lemarchand said:
?In part, Uncharted 3 is about how relentless Drake can be when he?s pursuing a goal, and the dangers of that single-mindedness. He?s so fixated on following the chain of clues that the story puts in front of him, and in such disregard of the growing danger around him, that he barely notices as his friends drop out of the adventure one by one. Even Chloe, who is normally so reckless, won?t go along for the ride beyond a certain point.

It's well worth a read even though I don't agree with Msr. Lemarchand's assessment of Drake's Deception. Read the full article over here, and do, please, post your thoughts.

Games that are nearly a year old rarely receive updates; no, they're regulated to the second-hand bin of your local emporium. If that shiny plastic disc hasn't been sold, then it's at the bottom of an ever-growing stack -- business as usual, world without end.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception bucks that trend with a Godzilla-sized update -- Patch 1.13 & 1.14! Focused entirely on the multi-player component of Drake's third outing, these updates bring new experimental block mesh maps, a tournament system, and a slew of items with which to dress your avatar increasing your chances of getting a date!

There's over 100 -- yes, ONE HUNDRED! -- new pieces of custom parts to share amongst all skins, another seventy-five parts for specific characters, and two hella new skins!

Check out Naughty Dog's official blog for the full rundown.

The Tournament System is yet another addition to the multi-player component!

Naughty Dog said:
A major aspect of this patch is that we?re introducing a whole new system to Uncharted 3?s multiplayer. The Tournament System ushers in a points-based competition that rewards you with in-game weapons and items. There will be three reward tiers which grant you special in-game weapons or items based on how well you?ve played. Once you unlock a weapon or item it?s yours to use until the next tournament period. The points formula for the tournament is as follows:

Points = [1000 + (100*kills) + (25*assists) ? (80*deaths)] * [1.2-(party size*0.2)]

The math just helps to keep the numbers nice, clean and round. A tournament leaderboard will be added to the leaderboards section so you can track your skill level among your friends. For a look at the tournament system, and insight into how it all works, check out the video and Q&A over on IGN as it covers off the rules and specifics and features Lead Multiplayer Designer Robert Cogburn and Gameplay Designer Robert Ryan.

Haven't played Golden Abyss yet either? Well, Naughty Dog & Bend Studio have teamed up to release Golden Abyss Drake & the campaign's villain, Guerro, as new downloadable skins for free!

Some of the other gameplay updates include:

Increased recoil has been added to the G-MAL
Deathmatch will now appear in round 5 instead of round 3 in Team Objective game modes
Quitting out of Co-op will no longer count as a Competitive loss when signing-out/disconnecting
Lab games no longer count towards the Leaderboard
Death from Above medal now requires the player to be at least 2 meters off the ground
Players can earn more than 1 ?Here, Hold This Medal? in a match
A collection of trophies have been added for each DLC pack available (50 total new trophies)
The TAU Sniper Pistol has been tuned so the rate of fire is up 30% and you pick 6 instead of 3 bullets upon collecting new ammo now
The M9 blindfire accuracy has been reduced by 10% efficiency
Cloaked level 3 is now immune to the effects of Disruption (it wasn?t working properly so we fixed it)
Marked Men now migrates properly to another player if the marked man drops form the game
Gunfire is no longer silent when using the shield
Teleporting with Smoke Bomb while holding the Idol is no longer possible
An issue with the shield that allowed players to remotely control the turret has been fixed

Go here for the full-list of the exciting options that you can outfit your avatar with!

Content drops will occur weekly through the 4th of September!

I have this, pretty cool action figure!
I love Uncharted, but I've never played the online multiplayer, is it worth it?
I've passed it since I'm not a big fan of online multiplayers.

Seen this? If not, watch this. It's Cartoon Network's recreation of eighties detective series Simon & Simon starring Jon Hamm & Adam Scott.

Ideally Hamm would be considered for the role of Nathan Drake, but does anybody else think he'd be a perfect Sully? With some makeup and a dye job, of course.

Uncharted: Fight for Fortune?

The Australian Classifications Board may have inadvertently leaked the existence of another entry in the Uncharted series! Interestingly enough, this outing doesn't appear to be under Naughty Dog's banner. Instead, One Loop Games will be undertaking development this time around.

classification.jpg

Note those states. Especially the G-rating and the "very mild impact" on the violence rating. Those don't sound very Uncharted-like. Neither does the "Fight for Fortune" subtitle. While it could be a very elaborate ruse, it seems very real that Sony honcho Shuhei Yoshida inadvertently(?) re-tweeted the find.

Thoughts? Another Vita outing? An iOS or Facebook game? Check out Gamespot's original blurb here.

Back on Naughty Dog's doorstep, Drake's Deception had its one year anniversary on the 1st of November. In order to celebrate, they've announced a collaboration with Sideshow Collectibles to release a premium format Nathan Drake figure!

Dig it!

Of the figures released thus far, I happen to like this one the best. It won't be available for pre-order until January 2013, but Naughty Dog & Sideshow Collectibles are running a contest beginning on the 7th of November through the 7th of December.

Fight for Fortune is a card game...

I wanted to copy and paste the article, but for some reason the site wouldn't let me.

edit: OK now it lets me

Uncharted: Fight For Fortune is "Casino/Card" Game
Thank you, Australian Classifications Board.
by Colin Moriarty NOVEMBER 7, 2012

More information has emerged about Uncharted: Fight For Fortune. Thanks to NeoGAF user videtonator, we now know that the game has been rated elsewhere, namely in Brazil. And the Brazilian listing teaches us a bit more about the nature of Fight For Fortune.

The platform of the game is listed as PlayStation Vita, dispelling the notion (mentioned below) that the game could possibly be cross-play between PS3 and Vita. And its category is listed as a casino or card game.

When that information is combined with what we garnered from the Australian listing – namely that its rated acceptable for everyone – as well as the rather literal nature of the game, it’s safe to assume we have an Uncharted card game on our hands. But we’ll have to wait and see what Sony has to say, as they’ve yet to respond to our inquiry for comment, clarification and confirmation.

The original story is below the video.

Good, I was starting to get worried. I'd rather not see any more main Uncharted games if Naughty Dog handed them off to another developer. I want ND and ND only working on them. I do however think, the Dog may announce news for part 4 as an early title for the PS4. I have no back up to help my claim, just a gut feeling.

Remember that contest Sony ran a while ago to input yourself into the multiplayer component? Well, it seems that they found a winner.

With Naughty Dog fully immersed in the production of The Last of Us, Nathan Drake & Co. are understandably in a holding pattern. If you know where to look though, interesting things do manage to dribble out. Case in point: The ever reliable Gamasutra posted yet another post-mortem on Uncharted: Golden Abyss.

Gamasutra said:
To start, the franchise formula is challenging. You have to find a compelling historical mystery with "gaps" that can be filled creatively; the history needs to be real and researched; you need a MacGuffin that is valuable, that people may have heard of, and that is potentially cursed; settings and plots need to be realistic, fantastic elements need to be reasonable in an X-Files sort of way; the tone should be mostly light in a summer blockbuster style; settings have to be traversable, exotic, romantic, and, well, uncharted in some way; there needs to be an army of bad guys to kill; the story has to lend itself to puzzles, twists, turns, surprises; bad guys have to be interesting, powerful, but not clichéd... and you have to do all this without repeating what has already been done in Uncharted 1, 2, and 3 (not to mention avoiding overused tropes from genre film franchises). I severely underestimated the amount of work this was going to be.

The full post-mortem can be read here. Be forewarned, though: The article contains a metric tonne of spoilers if you haven't played the game.

Have a gander at a preview of the Nathan Drake statue from Sideshow Collectibles, too!

See that surly looking gentleman in the leather jacket? Yeah? That's Graham McTavish; otherwise known as Charlie Cutter & Zoran Lazarevic to fans of the Uncharted series. I sort of liked Msr. Cutter in Drake's Deception, but definitely wished the story took a less is more approach to the number of characters. Drake's third outing suffered needlessly because of it.

The Last of Us is currently burning up the speculation charts, but we can all be certain that a fourth outing for Drake & Co. will be forthcoming so long as Sony pulls the strings. It's a no brainer given the series' increasing popularity. How popular? For the Among Thieves press event, there might have been fifty people present. By the time Drake's Deception made its public debut, Naughty Dog & Sony had to rent a bigger theatre. This one held roughly six-hundred people and was sold out.

It would be safe to say that it's only a matter of time for Uncharted 4 -- that is, the current generation or Playstation 4. So, did Graham McTavish accidentally announce the fourth outing? Again?

See:
Graham McTavish said:
For Gamers...Just back from 1st day on a new project. Very hush-hush, but I think it's going to be rather good.....

Graham McTavish said:
"@akashpunkfanno1: @grahammctavish When is Charlie Cutter coming back sir? #Supportinyaalways" #Uncharted fans, I will keep you posted!....

Mr. McTavish's Twitter feed is here if you're interested in his twits. Looking over his resume, there are a few other AAA-list game on it (Infamous, Call of Duty), but nothing that warrants a media blackout otherwise.

So, can we assume that principle photography(?) for the fourth Uncharted game is now underway? Or, do you suspect that is for a completely unrelated project?

I hate IGN. No, that's not entirely true. I hate their employees. None of them could write their way out of paper bag, but they do post something interesting on occasion. Fast forward to the 8:50-mark to get to the good stuff: an interview with Emily Rose, aka Elena Fisher! And find out why she wanted her character killed off!

What?! Yes, really. Or, learn that Ms. Rose was initially turned down for the part.

Keep campaigning for the Uncharted movie, too! It's the closest we're ever going to get a modern day Indiana Jones!
