Funny you should say that, because (bar Black Panther) there haven't been many black actors in Disney films. In fact, looking at TLJ, it was pretty pale, with the exception of the two minority actors who were pushed to the side for a majority of the movie.

No, you think on a paranoid level of what you believe Disney thinks, despite evidence to the contrary. Its more than a bit exhausting to read.

Granted, I'm not a huge fan of the idea either. The coat does contribute to the look, but I also remembered a few shots in the movie where Gosling reminded me of Indy back in Nepal. I don't really know why, perhaps it's just wishful thinking, but it's undeniable that there's at least a tangential resemblance between the two actors.

Edit: You know what? It might really be that coat he's wearing that suggests such a strong resemblance to Harrison.
But then there's this. He resembles like ToD Indy in this one, definitely.

I want Indy 5 to star Harrison Ford, after that Gosling is my choice to take on the role. I hope a couple of scenes in Indy 5 will set this up.

Also, this may have been a joke but Gosling has mentioned wanting a role in the next film: https://www.eonline.com/news/882716...in-new-indiana-jones-movie-with-harrison-ford

Count me in. I was a little skeptical at first, but now I'm fully confident that he can adequately handle the role. And besides, he's a more unique choice than Pratt or Ingruber, for that matter.
Edit: And watching him in BR2049, he did a great job at emulating some of Harrison's mannerisms and personality in his character.

Yep, he has the looks, charm and charisma. It?s the best choice I believe.

Agreed. Could definitely see him portraying the professorial side of Indy as well as his rough and tumble personality.

Yup. Even back when the film was set for 2020, news was flowing out slower than molasses. Looks like we're back in hibernation for now, until anything new comes out.

I don't know. I think Gosling is fine actor but if you're going for that kind of actor I would favor someone like Leonardo Dicaprio who has worked with Spielberg before and they remain good friends.

I found a couple of images to give an idea how Leo might look in that kind of role.

It's definitely an interesting choice, and DiCaprio could definitely play more "action-oriented" roles (see his marvelous performance in Blood Diamond, for example), but I'm not sure that he'd exactly fit into the role, given his character portrayals and films he's been in recently, and I'm not sure how audiences or execs would react to that. Gosling still has my vote, but DiCaprio is an interesting choice.

I've noticed that the new release date has led people to conclude that Kasdan was hired for a page one rewrite rather than a polish. It's totally possible, but there's another possibility, which is that the need for a new writer prompted Spielberg to move a different project up on his schedule. Meaning, INDY 5 might not actually need two years' worth of additional development, but a delay of any kind caused Spielberg to swap it with something that's closer to camera ready.

A lot could suddenly change once there's a satisfactory script. Spielberg is just as known for pushing things up the schedule as down it when the stars align.

I think it also has to do with being released by Disney. Want another three months? Erm, sorry guys, we don't have a release date free for another 12 months...

It's part of the problem with one studio putting out so many films a year - there's simply not enough space without them splitting their potential audience.

And geez, this confirmation from Disney is a bummer. I'm curious to see what Spielberg next says on the matter. That should give us an idea as to what's going on...

If that were the explanation, I'd be fine with that, as long as they filmed the movie earlier (Ford is not getting any younger), but they delayed filming as well.

So much easier to talk about a film once it's actually released.

Half the fun is getting there, though. ;)

And in this case, it may prove to be a lot more than half for a lot of us here, based on our preferences...

Spielberg should just film it as soon as its ready to go but I suspect as always that is the big issue they are not ready to go (they who.... probably Disney now their last 2 SW movies flopped creatively they are probably hands on all over this).

Its vapourware at this time if it was just a simple rewrite that's 3 months not 12 ! I suspect the movie will never get made with Ford & Spielberg.

Only when they are both on set shooting & Ford is confirmed as the lead actor I will accept its going to come out in 2021!

Does anybody know why this is taking 3 years? Is it because Spielberg and Fords schedules have to sync up with the Lucasfilm crew who is busy filming all of these Star Wars movies back to back? To my knowledge Lucasfilm has never filmed a SW and Indy film at the same time. They use the same crew for all of their films correct?

As others have noted previously (Udvarnoky in particular), the main cause of the delay doesn't seem to be the script rewrites, but Spielberg's other ongoing projects right now. If it was just a script edit, it'd probably still be coming out in 2021. It won't be vaporware unless if they announce that the film has no set release date at this time.

Ford's been confirmed. Only issue now is that they need to start shooting. And soon, if you look at all the factors involved with this.

To answer your question, the productions usually use different crews for films, especially if Spielberg is putting in his preferred choices, like Kaminski for DP. So that's not the problem here, it's due to the fact that Steven is working on multiple films now before Indy 5.
(FINAL) Edit: This new avatar really speaks to me, for some reason.
