Moving locally here in Germany as my landlord sold the house I have rented for 10-years. The bummer is I only have less than a year before I am going to be stationed back in the States. Money being spent to move and deposits I really should not be paying.....

I have a Hero in goat. I gave it a wash to age it slightly and get some wrinkles in the sleeves. Did the same with my G&B.

Still not sure I like the dark novapelle. I used pecards on it but still has a very gray undertone.

No museum for me. I am retired Army and working civil service for DIA. They pay my rent while overseas and I have been buying up everything I have wanted while here and maxing out my 401k. When I go back to the States, I will not have the expendable income to buy much hobby stuff.

Let me know which one you go for(y)

I will. Still mulling over various options. Authentic would be my preference for a Hero, if I didn't already have an authentic custom Raiders, Temple and LC in that skin. On the other hand part of me feels I would regret having the hero in anything else (apart from striated lamb, which isn't available from wested). Shrunken Lamb is to variable for my taste, you might get a one and good colour but it's not guaranteed. My honest view is that the Authentic brown, well worn and aged would provide a more screen accurate look, heck even brand new it still looks more accurate to me for some reason. I may hold off for a while though and get a Custom Last Crusade instead, with a few hero mods, as Wested seem to be slacking on releasing what seems to me would be the second greatest asset to them after the Hero Raiders.

That's annoying about the shoulder measurement issue, hope that gets sorted.

I'll keep you boys posted how I get on with my oddly shaped Raiders.

That would really upset me. I really don't think Wested has any quality control. They get the jackets and mail them out. From what I have read, their jackets are made in a different location than their business. I had a custom long jacket made with a 1/2 belt and the measurements were all off. Decided never to order a custom jacket from them.

I have had a couple jackets where I ordered a hidden snap on the bottom and they shipped it with just the snap part on one side.........Wonder how hard it would be to remove the snap part off the jackets???

It did, to the point where I was going to simply stick it on ebay. But then had second thoughts. It really is a beautiful jacket, shoulder size issue aside, and so Ive decided its a keeper. Ive contacted Wested but not heard anything yet. But the more I wear it the better it gets, and Wife insists that the offset shoulder is not noticable, and that I`m only so aware of it
because I`m basically obsessed with the Indy jacket. Which is a fair point. And it does look great, its breaking-in really nicely after only a few weeks wear.

You can see how the right shoulder slightly overhangs the end of its coat hanger its on. But I love the way the sleeves and pocket flaps are beginning to crease and wrinkle.

If I need to have it altered there`s a specialist leather repair shop in Liverpool called Maughm`s, I may ask them to have a look.

Very wise Major, I think its best to really research the Hero, not only for which leather to chose but there`s also the whole sizing issue to consider. The first one I bought was huge, even though it was technically in my size. There`s a Raven member, DJD I think, who`s also on Fortune & Glory. He gives some very handy tips where Hero sizing is concerned. Worth a look.

That is a a bummer indeed...

It is starting to look nicely broken in, imagine what a few more weeks/months of wear will do. It will start to look completely frazzled and more film-like.

Can't say I particularly notice the shoulder issue from those pictures, you could always try applying water to the shoulder every so often to see if you can shrink it a bit.

Still undecided about what to get next, either the hero or another custom ToD. If I went for the ToD, I'd maybe get an extra inside pocket, pick a skin like heavy duty pre-distressed lamb, (not screen accurate for any IJ jacket) but a very nice cool looking skin. Somebody on fortune and glory had a hero made in that skin and loved it. That would be just a practical non SA jacket and to have a different looking jacket in the collection. However still consideirng a Hero Raiders, and if I went for that I'd probably want to get a more screen accurate (in colour) skin, because I still don#t have a Hero yet. *sigh* decisions.

Ah the agony of choice:confused:
It's a tough call isn't it. I know what u mean though. I was kind of intending my new Raiders to be my last, certainly for a while. But recently I've been doing a lot of research into the TOD, and am keen to add one to the collection.
I also really fancy trying dark brown novapelle. Am thinking maybe a Hero. The scenes in Raiders just after Indy and Marion escape from the Well of Souls his jacket is covered in dust. Looks really grey. The db nov could work quite well.
Dunno. We'll see.

I think Dark Novapelle would be a good choice for thicker Raiders or ToD jacket. Considering it myself as a winter skin choice. Even considered it for my next choice, but I'm unsure if that make it less of a casual and more of an outdoors jacket? Less familiar with the cow offerings. The good thing about the authentic lamb is you can wear it indoors. I wear it instead of a jumper if it gets cold, may as well wear it as much as possible to keep breaking it in. When there was a powercut a couple of months ago I slept in my ToD jacket, but I needed to because there was no heat and the house was freezing.(y)

The Dark Novapelle is certainly very grey when you get it. Some pecards will darken it some but it still has a serious grey undertone to it. Positive side is it should get an aged look pretty soon with normal wear. Very soft skin.

Check this out gentlemen. Ive been looking into the TOD jacket, probably my next one, and whilst doing some research into which leather I`d go for I came across this photo on Google Images; its a Hero that someone over at IndyLounge has had Wested make for him in Nubuck.
Mighty impressive I think and would be great for a TOD or even a Hero.

Clearly its not something that Wested offers as standard, but Ive emailed them and asked if they would be willing to make either a TOD or a Hero for me in Nubuck.
I`ll let you boys know what they say.

That looks very good. Awesome choice for a hero.

Surprised it's not offered as a standard as it looks like the dusty flying wing/truck chase jacket. I'm not sure it would be suitable for ToD, as I think there was a definite brown vibe to the ToD jacket. However I'm sure the ToD would look equally good.

It's Westeds own apparently.
From what I can gather it's a bit more expensive than their standard offerings. I'm hoping they'll be prepared to do it for a loyal and regular customer like meself... We'll see.

A good way to get the dusty flying wing/truck chase jacket look, without actually having to walk around with dust all over the jacket.(y)

Maybe you could ask them as a favour, and mention the shoulder thing on the Raiders jacket. They might do it without the extra cost.

Actually I think it might work with Temple of Doom, in the daylight scenes it had a slightly grey look, although you'd need to add distressing, the scratches etc all over the jacket.

If I remember right, nubuck leather is suede but they use the opposite side of the leather. Only thing negative I have read is it stains very easy

Yeah it's not bad at all. Fit and feel go a long way. The pocket flaps look better than at least one US vendor I can think of selling an 'Indy Style' jacket.

Temple of Doom jacket detail

Found this online. Nicely shows some of the detail and distressing of the TOD jacket.

Yep, it's quite heavily distressed. I haven't added any distressing but I've been wearing it a lot. Somebody said the wested secret on the ToD jacket was it's actually a size down. So if you order a size 42" it's actual more like 41. I didn't know this beforehand and I just ordered my usual size 42 and it has the desired effect.

I have always wondered about the different jacket colors in each movie. I have read much of what is out there. Most folks want the darkest brown for Raiders and TOD. The next 2-movies, the jackets look like a lighter brown.

I have seen shots of Raiders and TOD where the jackets really do not look as dark. Crusade and CS - medium brown.

Raiders - lamb. TOD - lamb. Crusade - lamb or cow depending on who you ask. Think lamb was the jacket in the museum but might be wrong. CS - cow/steerhide.

Thoughts? Lighting just made the jackets look darker on screen in Raiders/CS?
