Just thought it'd be interesting to see if anyone else does this. I go out to get some new clothes every year or so, since I'm not much of a shopper, and every time I do get out to the shops, I end up looking for the most adventure-oriented clothes I can find. For instance, I just picked up these two items yesterday:
I always look for stuff that reminds me of Indy, or makes me think if Indy existed in this era, with new materials instead of leather and khaki. Either way, just wanted to know if any other Indy fans shared the same feeling, or if everyone gets the Indy outfit instead. Or both!

Absolutely, Trent!
For starters I have probably half a dozen khaki "Indy" shirts, Columbia and the like (none SA, but a few close enough). Usually new materials, with an Indy look and feel. But, when I'm really out adventuring, I prefer a blue Columbia shirt that's my fav, cargo pants with flat pockets, and my Wested jacket. The Wested turns out to be the only true Indy item. The thing is, people don't know it's an Indy item unless I tell them. Now if you go around wearing a fedora, people know.
Spreaking of the fedora, I recently got a canvas and mesh RedHead hat at Bass Pro Shop, olive color. It's a fedora, so it has an Indy feel without seeming like a costume.
And speaking of costumes, if I wear it with the jacket, then it still seems like a costume.
So much to think about!
But, yes, and yes, on your questions. I'm always looking for Indy-esque clothing, but I also go for the exact look sometimes.

Very nice, goodeknight. Glad to hear I'm not the only one out there that does this. About the Wested, don't you get too hot wearing that out hiking/adventuring? I tried it with my look-alike jacket, and I couldn't get cooled off while wearing it. Seemed like too much trouble. Is the Wested a bit lighter or airier than it looks?

Honestly, I do often get too warm when I'm wearing my Wested hiking. But it's great for fall and spring, and for mornings/evenings camping when it's cooler. Mine is goat, which is a good bit lighter than cowhide. Kind of in between the heaviness and warmth of cowhide and the screen accurate lamb. I don't have one, but lamb is supposedly really light. However, I also understand that lamb is prone to tearing. Doesn't really hold up to twigs and such. If you watch Last Crusade very (very) closely, in a tight shot when Henry Sr. scares the gulls into crashing the fighter plane, you can see the front of Indy's jacket blow in the breeze a bit. So the lamb looks as light and soft as fabric at times.
You should consider a Wested. Since they make them themselves, there's no middle man, so it's fairly affordable considering it's a custom made jacket tailored to fit. Probably my favorite piece of Indy gear. Wear it all the time.
Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I've been looking for a new outdoors/hiking jacket recently, and keep coming back to Columbia jackets or something like them. I've always wanted an authentic Indy jacket. I mean, who doesn't? I got a fedora from DisneyWorld when I was 14, and it still fits, but I always wanted to get the jacket. If I can get enough cash together, I just might go ahead and grab one. Thanks again.

Look at it this way: It's probably the one piece of gear you'll really wear and use on a regular basis. I wear my Wested at least four to six months out of the year. And it's a lifetime investment. If you get goat, or probably even lamb (and treat it well), you'll be passing it on to your kids one day. So, it might be 300 bucks or so with shipping from the UK (little cheaper off the rack). But you'll have a custom jacket made by the same folks that made them for the Indy movies. How cool is that? (If you get a custom fit, just make sure not to gain any weight for the rest of your life.)

Currently subject to dispute if you believe some "experts"...
But I hear ya...gott pick me up one of those soon. Worth every penny for a quality custom jacket...you'd pay much more for a quality real leather approximation jacket from the high street.
MKVII bag next...and Indy has influenced my choice of shirt, boots etc now and then.
I've wanted one of these jackets for as long as I can remember, and with the positive reviews about the Wested, I think I'll go for it.
As far as an actual bag to carry, I find myself using an Adidas one-strap backpack instead of a gas mask bag. More compartments, newer and better materials, and I don't look like "Fat Jesus" from The Hangover.
From my experience, places like Old Navy and Kohl's can have applicable things like that, if you look in the right place.
This is the kind of thing I'm torn over, in regards to being an Indyfan. Do you lean more towards the exact image of Indy's gear to a "T", or do you fall more towards Indy-inspired stuff, like Anniejones does?
You can recognize it as Indy, but by tweaking it, it somehow seems more unique and less "static" to me. Don't get me wrong, I admire the hard work going into replicating the official look, but I'm also drawn to taking liberties with the idea and making it your own. It's sometimes more liberating to see what someone has done differently as opposed to seeing the exact copy.
For example, I never understood Indy's shoes. The terrain that he moves around in, in a sole with no tread? That's asking for trouble...hiking boot's is where it's at. Also, cargo pants instead of the standard khaki's...they're more durable and have those extra pockets. And finally the webbing belt...a thick leather belt over webbing anyday.

You make a lot of good points here. The Indy outfit is iconic first, plausible a distant second. It's all about the look within the films, and they nailed it. But I like all of the ideas and suggestions here so far. You guys have some good ideas.
