Thought I would pose this question to you vintage experts out there before making a hasty decision:
I came across a loose, vintage, Sallah today at a local comic shop. He looked to be in pretty nice condition. I don't think he a had the torch with him, unless it was somewhere underneath him in the case, but that's not an issue as I have an extra. They were asking $35 from him...does this sound reasonable? I'd compare on eBay, but I am at work right now...any advice would be much appreciated.

Hey Billy,
I'm no vintage expert, but I did just do a quick search on ebay for you. I found 2 loose vintage Sallah's, both with Buy it Now prices of $24.95 and $24.99.
I guess you'd be paying the $35 for the convenience and the whole supporting your local comic shop, as they say.
I guess $35 isn't too bad then, counting the convenience and less the cost of shipping. I may swing by and pick him up. I know thw owner, so maybe he will swing me a deal. He wasn't in today though.
I missed out on a lot of the vintage stuff as I was overseas at the time and at the mercy of the Sears and JC Penny catalogs. I had the Well of Souls, Indy, Toht, Marion, and the Cairo Swordsman. They all came as a set from one of the catalogs. I didn't even know about the other figures, horse, truck, and playsets until long after they were off the shelfs. I did snag a maproom playset on clearance at Toys R Us around '86 though.
Well, after reviewing prices online, I went back today to take a closer look at Sallah. Turns out his torch and sash (which I hadn't noticed missing yesterday) were both stowed underneath him. He was in really good condition, no paint chips or frays/holes in his robe. I went ahead and pulled the trigger. Military discount wiped out the tax plus one dollar so I got him for $34.
I fear I have taken the first step towards trying to complete my vintage collection
Congrats Billy Ray - that Sallah looks great (saw him over in the acquisitions thread). Completing my vintage figure collection was essentially my "holy grail" (aside from getting a full set of the unproduced Hasbro Raiders wave). Toughest part seems to be finding original accessories - a number of mine are repros. Just committed to a complete, boxed Map Room set - securing the playsets / vehicles is going to be a long and expensive challenge !
