Although Raiders is the best of the series, my favorite at the moment is The Last Crusade. Connery makes it for me... I suppose it also has to do with the fact that Last Crusade is the one I saw most as a growing young lad on VHS. Raiders is superior, but right now Last Crusade... ahh nostalgia.

Anyone remember that coke commercial in the beginning of The Last Crusade VHS? The one with the house wife going to the fridge?

I'd have to say that TLC is my favourite, for largely emotional/sentimental reasons, with Raiders being the one I'd consider the overall 'best' movie in terms of craft/quality etc.

I was with you guys for quite awhile, including whenever I answered this poll question, but over the years Raiders status as superior has worn away at my higher affection for Crusade, and I can't help but see the first as the best now. It's mostly Belloq edging out Henry. Sr.

Yep - it's a difficult one because it's so bound up with emotion. Without doubt, Raiders is the better movie. It's the one I watched the most, lived and breathed the most when I was a kid. However, and I don't know if it's an age thing, if I've time to watch an Indy movie these days I seem to gravitate towards TLC. TLC is also the Indy movie I saw the most at the cinema (as I was a bit too young for Raiders and TOD to see them multiple times)... so not sure if that has something to do with my fondness for TLC?

My decision just became tougher...

Sen John McCain’s 2008 opposition-research file on Mitt Romney

Quote:
Apparently Mr. Romney changed his position on his favorite film from “O Brother Where Art Thou” to “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”

Obama's favorite movie? The Godfather.

Raiders.

I'm a sucker for firsts. I would say I'm a sucker for "origin stories," but that's pretty far off base. Last Crusade is Indy's origin story.

What I enjoy the most is seeing the characters for the first time in a context where you supposed to get to know them. Sequels and prequels characters aren't being introduced. They're being explained or explored. I like how first films introduce and encapsulate the character.

Star Wars Episode IV
Spider-Man 1 (a true origin story)
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
Fellowship of the Ring (I even preferred Hobbit over LOTR)

I can't really decide for I love them all, but if I had to choose it would be the Last Crusade although Raiders does follow it VERY closely behind and then TOD

My favorite has always been Last Crusade. I was 2 years old when my parents bought it on VHS and I watched it multiple times. I cried at the end when Indy and the gang ride off into the sunset. Then again, I was a pretty weepy kid.

On the other hand, I can acknowledge Raiders as being the superior film.

I know this is an older thread, but I figured I'd use this since I did a search to see if there was another ranking thread before, and I found this in the search results.

Anyway:

Temple Of Doom
Raiders Of The Lost Ark
The Last Crusade
Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

I enjoy them all very much

Ooh, I'd forgotten about this thread! Hm, I see I already posted in it, but back when the fourth movie was just out; time for an update...

1. - Raiders of the Lost Ark
2. (tie) - Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
2. (tie) - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
2. (tie) - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I'm not sure what I was doing putting all the non-Raiders movies at a tie; I must have been on a general Indy high. Here's how I'd rank them now (while it's a little outside the scope of the topic question, I'd like to also add the TV show to the mix; I see at least one other person includes it as well):

1. - Raiders of the Lost Ark
2. - The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles / The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones
3. - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
4. - Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
5. - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I rate them in the order they came out. They get worse every time one is released.

Oddly enough, in the order they came out . . . mostly

1. Raiders (sometimes Doom)
2. Doom
3. Last Crusade
4. Kingdom

I like them in the exact order in which they were released.

If I were to include the show it would fall inbetween Crusade and Crystal Skull.

Which again would be the exact order in which they were released.
