But the real answer to the question, Batman or the Dark Knight?, is both.

Burton rescued Batman from the campy '60s interpretation of the character. Nolan then took him to another level.

No interpretation can be definitive, since Batman is constantly changing depending on the writers and artists involved, and the times that influence them.
