I would like the idea of a decent prequel....provided it is done really good and gives a bit more background on Indiana Jones the character, how he came to be etc.

I also loved the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles series and certainly wouldn't mind seeing a production there. (y)

I have a real problem with someone else playing Indy. If they did one more soon or film 2 back to back soon with Harrison I would watch it. As far as Lucas writing.... I don't know. His recent track record for mediocrity lead me more toward not. Reboot in my opinion is a bad idea. All good things come to an end and sometimes we forget that you can take something to far or ruin what was originally there.:whip:

I say one more and then stop.Unless they film the 5th & 6th one at the same time, but release them at 2 different times.I just hope they don't wait too long to film the 5th one,Harrison Ford isn't getting any younger.

Indiana Jones, "Keep on Swinging"

I would love for them to make Indiana Jones 5. Just like Judi Dench would like to play "M" for life in the James Bond movies, I am sure Harrison Ford would like to be "Indiana Jones" for life too. If Shia LaBeouf does continue with the Indiana Jones series as we are speculating, who says "Mutt" can't go visit his father and ask for advice or ask his father to come along. Indiana loves to find :whip: secret passage ways.

It feels like sacrilege saying this but I can see a remake or a reboot in years to come.

The reason I say it is that Indy is arguably as iconic a screen figure as say Sherlock Holmes or James Bond. I can't see the popularity of the character diminshing over time and some studio will surely think the time is right at some point to remake it. Although its unthinkable to believe someone else could play him imo.

Well, on the eve of this event, it seems appropriate to bump this poll, anyone else wish to cast their vote and/or comment?

Though I'd love there to be a worthy Indy 5, I no longer have any faith that a fifth film would be anything more than KOTCS with all the bad stuff amplified yet further. I'm thinking especially the marginalisation of Indy himself in favour of CGI and Mutt.

I love the OT, Young Indy and the expanded universe but I'm done, film-wise.

(I should add that I've only come to this conclusion within the past few days. Until very recently I was eager for more Indy of any kind...then I re-watched KOTCS on DVD and mulled over the first few hundred IMDB reviews.)

I'd really expect Indy V (if it were to be made soon'ish) to be very much in the template of KOTCS. Saying that, I'd also expect Lucas/Spielberg to use a little more constraint i.e. KOTCS style but without the equivalent fridges and monkeys getting in the way.

Nope, can't merge polls. And whenever a new non-poll thread is stacked on top of an old poll thread, the poll gets squished. Only a stump remains.

Oh well, bummer man. It would be nice to get a higher vote count, but bumping the thread like this does it too, I suppose.....

Any new voters today? :hat:

Since I bumped this thread, the poll has gone from 87% back in April down to 82% as of today. To anyone that frequents these boards and has access to George Lucas, let him know that he's losing ground.

GET.
THIS.
THING.
HAPPENING.

The majority of fans still want this, but the window is closing. You can still close this franchise with some dignity. Do it now while you still can.

We aren't getting any younger. Neither are you. And neither is Indy.

I just want another Indy movie where I'm clutching the armrests or resisting standing up to yell to Indy to bloody well hurry and outrun whatever it is he has to outrun, dodge or outsmart - something that is there and not blue screened or cg'd, etc. Please continue in this vein.

An Idea

While I have a major issue with a reboot of Indy, especially while Harrison is alive , I do think that either one of these could be a good idea:

1) A series of big screen movies with a young actor, set from 1920-1933 or so. The series wouldn't conflict with the YIJC or override them, and might reference the events from them once in a while. However, they would basically be like the Harrison films albeit with a younger Indy. Essentially what the YIJC would've been if the series hadn't been cancelled (The meetings with Belloq and their brief friendship, etc)

2) A series based on the Bantham series of books, or the comics. Movies are adapted from novels all the time and the stories of the books could be tweaked to fit in timeline wise with the YIJC.

Neither of these would truly touch into the era of Harrison's Indy and would exist in the same continuity as both the Films and the YIJC; Not a reboot. The 15 year gap from Hollywood Follies to ToD offers a long time range for a lot of great stories. Some of them could be adapted from the Bantam series--you have a lot of great, classic Indy material right there, plenty of artifacts.

Basically, not a reboot but a film prequel series. It'd be perfect, really--If an Indy V with Harrison is truly an impossibility.

I think a lot of people have wanted to see Indy in the 1920s--When he romanced Marion, had the fall out with Abner, etc. Quite a few of the Bantam books would make for great movies. We could finally see why the Sultan of Madagascar would cut Indy's "misunderstanding" off if he ever returned; When Indy was called a grave robber in Honduras, etc.

A lot of great moments, and a great way to revive the series and take it back to Indy's more rogue-ish years, with an actor capable of being engaged in Raiders or TOD level action scenes.

If none of this comes to pass, we still have the YIJC, the dozens of comics, the video games and the Bantam books to fall back on if we have Indy cravings.

THREADS MERGED.

Please look around threads before posting ideas in a new thread, Raiders112390. This post of yours could have easily fitted here or in a number of different speculative threads on the future of the franchise.

Continue discussion.

This kinda reminded me of the eventual porn parody they seem to be making out of every blockbluster.

And when I think of it, I don't think I've come across based on KotCS yet despite some rather outlandish examples. (I mean, seriously, Avatar*?!!) As a fan, I don't actually know whether I should be relieved or a little offended.

Because well, despite being what they are, I can't help but think them as little shrines to human imagination also - and in a sense, one means to meter success. And if you look at them as standalone pieces, they do get the basic premise right. I mean, who doesn't like an action film with a hint of romance? As long as you're not distracted by some stiff acting that is.

Those are all good and valid ideas. It's the only way we're likely to see more live-action Indy in the manner that an audience expects.

It really just boils down to finding the right actor. Ideally somebody with a close resemblance to the younger Harrison, with the same mannerisms and style of acting.

Harry will never be forgotten, and I think any future actor must owe him the debt of having forged the character that we've come to accept as 'Indiana Jones'. Such a series would therefore be a tribute to Harrison Ford, rather than seeking to usurp him.
