No, that was all flash. For photographing figures and models it is always better to have a multiple lamp setup and dispense with the built-in camera flash to avoid such glare and color alterations.

Great work so far everyone. While taking a break from creating my 'Indy's Classroom' diaroma, I started to wonder what to do with all the pieces of Indy figures I had lying around (plenty of bodies arising from using deluxe heads to customise basic figs). So - I created what I like to call 'Indiana Jones: Raven Bar Fight'.

Photobucket

Recipe: Basic Raiders Indy (Body, Head)
Deluxe Temple Trap Indy (Jacket - more flexible - easier to stretch round the torso when 'zipping it up')
Agent Spalko (scene-accurate pistol)

I then weathered the hat and pants/shoes - something I think is lacking on the Indy figures in this line, and painted the gloves on.

Any comments ?

Very nice Inky! How did you get the jacket to stay closed like that? Wear are his belt and whip???

The first thing I did when I opened Spalko was give her gun to one of my Indys. I wonder if Hasbro will give us a "Raven bar fight Indy"?

Thanks Billy Ray. The jacket is glued shut - the one that belongs to Deluxe Indy is flexible enough to stretch it around the body and close it when the gun belt and oversize holster have been removed (holster is hideous and the presumption is that the belt is under the jacket). The bag had to be cut away from the jacket itself (Indy doesn't have it in this scene anyway). I totally forgot the whip, so it (and the holder) is now attached to the jacket to retain articulation. Was wondering whether to add some snow on his shoes - but probably not

I'm sure that Hasbro will crank this one out eventually. But in the meantime...

Used Nick_Macarty's crate scans that I found over at Rebelscum.com and made this ark crate. It's made from balsa wood, the scans, and wood glue. Let me know what you think.

I jus got back from a nearby dollar store. They have these really cheap action figures for $3, but they come with a bunch of stuff including a section of stone wall with skulls molded into them. I'm thinking I might get a few of these and repaint them to the right color and try a custom Orellana's tomb from the cemetary scene in Crystal Skull.

First off, I know we aren't supposed to double post but I do have a question and nobody else posted to this thread in a while.

Does anybody know if there are any sites that have downloadable backgrounds for action figure dioramas?

I found this website skin on the official Indiana Jones website, but it is portrait:

I might try adjusting it to landscape with Photoshop. I thought It would make a neat background for action figures when I saw it.

Does anybody know if there are any good temple/jungle backgrounds anywhere?

Okay, so my classroom / office diaroma is almost done - just the desk to go now...

Photobucket

Then all I need is a Henry Jones Sr body and a Crystal Skull Indy head and I've got a Professor Jones Jr...

Any comments, suggestions, criticisms ?

Very cool! Hard to tell, but is that writing on the chalk board?

Great work on the classroom. How did you make that? Or did you already say and I missed a post...?

Billy Ray - nothing on the chalk board yet - I'm trying to get a better screen-cap of Indy's class from Raiders before I attempt that.

Uki- I haven't posted a tutorial yet. If anyone wants specific details I'd be happy to provide instructions. In the meantime, here are some close-up pics. Everything (with the exception of Indy's bag, hat, whip, the Crystal Skull, Grail Tablet, Fertility Idol, Necromicon and Temple Carving) is scratch-built from a combination of balsa wood, paper and wooden coffee stirrers I'm especially proud of the chair and Henry Sr's Grail Diary...

I'm keeping the dioramas small firstly because I have limited space, and secondly because I plan to make 4 the same size - the classroom and one for each of the original trilogy - which I can then place end-to-end. Next up: Peruvian Temple. Then Rope Bridge. Finally Castle Grunwald.

Oh...and I'll happily consider commissions

Whoa dude! This takes the cake. It's amazing! Good job, I cannot wait to see it finished. Plus am I crazy or did you mess around with Indy’s head sculpt? Yours looks so much more like Harrison Ford there then any I’ve seen.

Thanks MaxPhactor23. Good eye on the headsculpt. I haven't personally messed with it, but I think I really lucked-out on finding a couple of good deluxe heads to swap-out onto Crystal Skull bodies (dipping the neck post in clear varnish tightens the fit a treat). All I did was dry-brush the hats to pick out a little detail.

Photobucket

I was thinking of turning out a couple of the shelves for eBay - figure people might want someplace to put all those little artefacts.

Here's a possibility for a "Professor Indy" for your diorama.

It's a KOTCS Indy head on a Henry Jones Sr. body with custom glasses. The head sits a little too high on the neck, so it should probably be dremeled out a bit.

It looks a little too "frumpy" to be Indy, but it's pretty close.

Man, that LC Indy headsculpt looks awesome! Any chance you tried it on any other bodies? I'd like to pick up two and use on for kit-bashing. Does it have the large ball joint like the KOTCS and Deluxe Indys or the smaller one like the two Raiders Indys?
