Soundtracks?

Also: if you send mail to Lucasfilm, feel free to mention the www.youngindianajonesmusic.com site as an indication of fan interest. I won't in my letter, simply because *if* I do and *if* they desire to respond - even in a non-commital way as they did with MDew - they may feel that they are giving tacit support to the site, which would put them in an awkward position.

Two minor things:

* I made some minor updates to www.youngindianajonesmusic.com - cross-linked the Cue List pages and pulled in additional details from the spreadsheets

* I sent off what I hope was a polite email to Steve Bramson, composer of Peacock's Eye letting him know about the site and asking for any corrections or additions he might think are appropriate. (So if you were planning something similar, please hold off a few weeks so we don't irritate him.)

Wow, you've really put a lot of detail into your site, Tash. The cue lists are a nice addition!

Family Guy creator/voice actor Seth MacFarlane will be singing ?She?s Wonderful, Too? on an album of 1940s and ?50s-era show tunes for Universal Republic Records, produced and arranged by Joel McNeely (whose credits include Mr. MacFarlane?s series ?American Dad?) MacFarlane and McNeely say they received approval of ?Indiana Jones? producer George Lucas to add ?additional lyrics and melodies to make a new and more complete song? out of it.)

Universal Republic said in a news release that Mr. MacFarlane would sing to the accompaniment of a live orchestra and a big band, using vintage equipment and analog tape to replicate the sound of classic records by artists like Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Rosemary Clooney.

Help identify this track?

I thought I'd spend some time today trying to track down some of the unidentified tracks from LEGO Indy 2, but this one stumped me and I declare defeat:

MP3

It sounds a lot like the final 15 minutes of Daredevils of the Desert but I can't place it anywhere. (Admittedly, I may keep being distracted by Catherine Zeta-Jones.) It's present in LEGO Indy 2 as part of the "1_1_Nepal_Act" sound file, which also contains segments from Verdun (released on OST and previously found on LIJ1 which we called "Return from the Mission") and ROTLA. I can't place this track in Verdun either.

Halp?

On the LEGO Indy 2 spreadsheet, the track "4_5_CraneTrain_Act" is identified as a possible unreleased LIJC track. Unfortunately, it's full of ambient sounds of the train, so it's rather hard to hear.

I tried the trick identified over on the JWFan board (http://jwfan.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15256&st=1040) - take the "AMB" file (which has just the ambient sounds), invert the waveform, loop it, and combine it with the "ACT" file (using Audacity). Wow... worked on the first try! There's still some quiet train noise so it's not perfect - I don't think enough of the original data is present for a perfect restoration. But anyway, cool beans!

A portion of the track matches up with the end Austria 1917, where Indy is running along the top of the train at the Swiss border crossing, before it breaks into the fanfare. There aren't obvious edits, so it may be used more fully elsewhere in the episode...

0:20-1:54 of this track are the Rooftop Chase scene at around the 35min mark in the DVD. The first 20 seconds of the track are similar but I can't place it.

For completists, that would be worth getting. Thanks for the info, Rocket!:hat:

Tash, I made some room in my PM box but would rather you e-mail me instead.:)

Do you have a time index for the elusive section of "1_1_Nepal_Act"? Maybe the 1st 20 seconds of "4_5_CraneTrain_Act" was never used (like some snippets of the "Hawkmen" music aboard the train)?

Does anyone here know where I can find the music in this opening scene? It starts right when it has Margaret Tyzack's and Ronny Coutteur's name in the opening credits(which is 0:13 seconds into the video). It sounds like(ancient)Egyptian music.I've been trying to find it everywhere. Is it on the soundtracks?

Unfortunately, AnnieJones, Rosenthal's score for "The Curse of the Jackal" has never been released.

Part 1 is recut as Part 1 of "My First Adventure":

http://www.youngindianajonesmusic.com/cue-lists/01-my-first-adventure

Part 2 is recut as Part 2 of "Spring Break Adventure":

http://www.youngindianajonesmusic.com/cue-lists/06-spring-break-adventure

Part of "Part 2" was rerecorded on a German CD release, but not the bits you're looking for.

It sounds like(ancient)Egyptian music

I wouldn't wager that it sounds at all Egyptian, ancient or otherwise, but I'm not an expert. It does have the sorts of mysterious cues that we've been trained since the 1930's to associate with Egypt, though. :) I wonder if James Dietrich's score for "The Mummy" (1932) has similar themes...

I forgot to mention I liked other music from these videos. This one at 6:04 because of the multiple cultural music that is in it.

FWIW, this trick works perfectly with these LIJ2 tracks as well:

5_0_SouthAmericaHub_Qui (Verdun/Hawkmen and other cues)
5_2_Orellanna_Qui (Congo and Somme cues)

The background ambient noise is stripped perfectly - no more bird chirps!

Several of the other tracks are proving trickier. The AMB and QUI tracks do align for the duration of the AMB track (so e.g. the first 30 seconds are "cleaned" by this), past that point a basic loop doesn't match so the effect actually makes the ambient sounds worse.

If I can recall correctly shorter version from the first clip (4,51) is available as a credits music from original broadcast of the pilot episode. It was always reminded me as alternative version of Maurice Jarre's Lawrence of Arabia theme - which is not a suprise as Lawrence is a key charachter in Indy's life. David Lean's Lawrence of Arabia is also knows as a guiding ideal for the movie brats (young generation of film makers back in 70's - Spielberg, Lucas, Copolla, DePalma, Scorcese, etc).

Also some interesting references here about Lawrence and movie locations:

Clarinet?

Hey gang,

Anyone have any insight into which of the Mozart clarinet concertos Indy and Rosa were going to see performed on his birthday in ?Petrograd, July 1917?? We?ll never know precisely, but it may be fun to take a shot at it! In the episode the orchestra was sent off to entertain the troops at the front, and Indy gets the much cooler(?) gift of seeing Lenin address his supporters.

I found this performance of the first movement by clarinetist Martin Froest:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=DVXFONkLPok
Sounds like it could easily fit into the Young Indy oeuvre!

If you remember the dialogue of the episode, Indy says the concertos are ?the way to his heart?? my own hypothesis is that in some ways, the Young Indy character might be represented musically by the clarinet in many of the cues of the series. Listen for the clarinet specifically in the music and maybe you?ll pick up one what I mean. It?s just an idea anyway. Maybe its just a coincidence, but whenever I listen to the music of the series I think of Indy as the clarinet, in a Peter-and-the-Wolfish kind of way? or maybe you could argue for the soprano sax? ;)

Anyway, that?s just my take on it.

Cheers and have a nice weekend!

I also liked the song My Handy Man sung by Maria Howell as Goldie Williams from The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles Mystery of the Blues.I managed to find this song on YouTube. It's sung by Alberta Hunter and she more talks it than sings it,but I still like the song anyway.

Alberta Hunter My Handy Man

I did find a small clip of YIJC Mystery of the Blues here Maria Howell.com .Just click on MH as Goldie on Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. It's not My Handy Man,but it's better than nothing.

Dear Tash & all,

I had a look through the cues on youngindymusic.com and noticed that of all the music to be harvested from the dvd documentaries, (by my count) there are two clips that have been identified.

1. Doc: Vol1 - Disc 9 - Title5 - Chapter 07 (Spring Break Adventure disc 2) (the clip has been named ?Lancers of death? from Trenches of Hell)

2. Doc: Vol 2 - Disc 1 - Title6 - Chapter 06 (This one I had some trouble with. Volume 2 Disc 1 is the Trenches of Hell dvd. This dvd only has four titles. Is it possible that this reference has been labeled incorrectly on the site? What's the title of the doc in question?)

I guess most of the credits used are stock music, but are these the only two that have been ID?d from the docs?? Thanks you guys!

Thanks for pointing that out. There was an error that had been corrected in the list of documentary tracks in the spreadsheet but not in the episode cue lists themselves.

Check out the "Tracks" tab of:

https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AitXfrT-eTV8clFHT2ZlQ2lJazJnNWtuNzRZOGx5V2c&hl=en

The two tracks are:

Documentaries Vol1 Disc 1 - "Howard Carter and the Tomb of Tutankhamun" (Title6 - Chapter 06) Daredevils of the Desert Gaza or Beersheba?

Documentaries Vol1 Disc 9 - "General John J. Pershing and His American Army" (Title5 - Chapter 07) Trenches (Daredevils/Trenches/Travels) Lancers of Death

I've updated the cue lists in both the spreadsheet and the site with the corrected/more complete info above.

As to the deeper question: are these the only two tracks from the documentaries that are used in the series and are not in the OSTs (or Transylvania bootlegs?)? At this point, those are the only two definitively identified, but there are several more - listed in the "Tracks" tab of the spreadsheet - that we haven't definitively ruled out. Any help is appreciated!
