I've probably got enough pics for a couple more sets...I had more than I thought I did.

Amazing job, as always, Billy Ray! Can't wait to see the final few sets. What an incredible journey!

I can't help but repeat these sentiments. It's great to see these images of Afghanistan. (y)

Jaw-dropping Billy Ray. An amazing insight into the day-to-day routine of our forces overseas. So far, everyone has given 110% to the project - and I can't thank you enough. I'm now eagerly awaiting news from Rocket of Indy's safe arrival.

Talk on this thread (especially from Stoo) of T E Lawrence led me to do a little investigation and I'll now be visiting his Clouds Hill cottage, the site of the military hospital in Bovington where he died and also his memorial at Wareham - so do let me know if there are any details you'd like photos of etc.

Thanks everyone! Indy's visit was definitely a lot of fun for everyone, we even have his visit to the Poo Pond as the dektop for our morale computer in our office. Visitors always get a kick out of it, and then have to see the rest of the pics. It's funny how I thought this was going to be a clandestine operation on my part, but it turned out being a group effort.

Anyway, here is the next to the last set of pics:

Indy in front of the base post office, both his port of entry and port of departure. It's one of the nicer spots on base because it actually has trees.

DSC00602.JPG

Indy in the guard tower overlooking Camp Samek, the home of the 451st Air Expeditionary Wing. You can see the mosque in the background

Indy, a little closer to the mosque, which I discovered is actually off base so this about as close as I could get. That is the perimeter wall there, on the other side...Afghanistan!

Boardwalk21.jpg

Indy visiting one of the memorials at the boardwalk. Believe it or not, that is a TGI Fridays in the background

DSC005272.JPG

Another shot of Indy at the boardwalk. I think it is an unwritten rule that all bases have one of these sign posts

Another shot from the boardwalk. This is one of my personal favorites (I didn't take it)

W-O-W! Amazing.(y) That last shot of the memorial is indeed a nice one. Too much to comment on but I LOVE the photos of the airport, the flags, the sign post and (especially) the Post Office.(y)...and, yeah, the tree really jumped out at me when first seeing the pic.

Indy in front of the Texas Armed Forces compound. Just kidding, it's one of the contracter's compounds;)

No sign of Indy yet...no doubt he's going to make some unorthodox entrance.
Flying westward across the Atlantic a couple of days ago, I felt like William Shatner in that "Twilight Zone" episode. Through the airplane window, I could've sworn I saw Indy hanging onto the wing for dear life. People around me thought I was crazy but he was definitely there!:p

Unfortunatelly I didn't get any pics with me in them, we had planned to take some pics with all of us, but just ran out of time. Things were a little hairy at the time I mailed him back and I had an opportunity to get Indy to the post office, so I took it. I definitely didn't want to delay his trip any longer.
Even so, it would still be nice to see a group shot of yourself and everyone who helped out. Never too late, mate. Your story of the computer screen is way cool!

Are you thinking of the "New Acquisitions" thread? Don't remember talking about him here. Anyway, I'm interested. There is a T.E. Lawrence thread in the Young Indy section. The memorial would make a great photo location for the figure when/if it eventually makes its way back to home soil.

Darn...getting my threads crossed again...

Great job, Billy Ray! Great snaps all around, and like Stoo said, I'm glad we took the extra time to get him out to you! The pictures of Kandahar Airfield are great! I only wish you had a chance to get off base.

Did you guys have a nice time escorting Rachel Maddow around base?

More high speed, low drag photos!

P.S. Still no takers from Chicago? C'mon, WE NEED INDY IN THE WINDY CITY! :whip:

Guess who's going to Chicago.

I didn't even know that Rachel Maddow was here.

Rose McGowan was here though, and Jame Gandolfini...and Toby Keith. Too bad this was before Indy's visit.

Starting to worry, no sign yet and it's Wednesday. He's going to cut it close I can feel it. This is some cliffhanger here...

Maybe if I post my last set of pics, it will help Indy arrive on time...

DSC006371.JPG

Well, it's time to be moving on. Guess I should follow these guys back to camp and pack my bags...

DSC006272.JPG

I sure didn't need this umbrella while I was here. Better not forget to pack my souvenirs...

DSC006281.JPG

...like these strange cardboard coins that they use here.

DSC006291.JPG

I feel like I am forgetting something...

DSC006301.JPG

...oh yeah, wouldn't want to forget these dogtags that I picked up for Mutt!

Well, I am off to New Jersey...

Yeah, very well worth it. Great teamwork! When are you going to The Windy City?

I'm getting worried, too. It's been 2 weeks and almost double the time it took Indy to get from San Fran to Afghanistan. When are you leaving?

Kind of sad to see him getting back in the box like that. The souvenirs you included are PERFECT! Great job, Billy Ray! Thanks a lot for all your efforts and it's been fun anticipating your pics.:hat: (You should get a group shot around the 'morale boosting' computer.)

Hopefully the mail caravan out of here wasn't ambushed by the Taliban;)

All joking aside, I really hope Indy makes it on time...I shipped him Priority Mail, same way he came, and they told me 7-10 days. I also sent some of those dog tags home to my kids in TX, via "free mail", which is free, but takes FOREVER and they got there a couple of days ago:confused:

I don't think we should consider Indy to be MIA just yet. However it does raise some interesting questions - firstly, how long should we wait before we consider him to be lost and secondly, is it in the spirit of the project to send out a duplicate figure to complete the journey ? I'd value your opinions...

I agree, we shouldn't give up on Indy for a while yet. I think a month after shipping is a good time to get seriously worried.

If the figure truly is lost, then sending a replacement is the right thing to do. The show must go on! Granted, the journal and "extra" items will be gone, too, but I think it would still be preferable to just giving up.

A lot of fun is getting the chance to see a glimpse out of the lives and locales of the Raven community. We shouldn't give that up just because of a potential postal predicament.

@Lance - Thanks, as always, for your counsel. I have everything in-hand to replace Indy and the diary if needs be. But I wouldn't count him out yet - I half expect him to turn up with a customs stamp / note in his diary from Homeland Security (much the same as my luggage did the last time I flew back from NYC).

@Stoo - how much of the diary content did you scan / photograph ?

As requested, this is just about everyone who helped out. Too bad we couldn't have gotten a similar shot with Indy:

A gallery of rogues if ever I saw one ;) Indy would've been honoured to have kept such illustrious company. My best to you all.
