You know, I think maybe the detailed discussion should exist in the dedicated thread, not just in the general action figure in action thread.

This amazing work deserves nothing less! So I'm re-printing my earlier comments (typos and all!)

This is absolutely delightful!! Well worth the wait.

I really do hope that the Raven community takes the time to watch and comment on this lovely film. It shows tremendous talent, creativity and enthusiasm.

On a technical level, there is so much to be admired here. The lighting, cinematography and dioramas are really terrific. The lighting is wonderfully evocative and adds a beautiful sense of atmosphere.

I was skeptical of the concept of making a film using action figures that wasn't stop motion. Given that you are literally holding the figures just out of camera range. Well, I think the effect COULD have been rather silly.

But you pull off a tricky technique. A few really cool shots like the gun going into the holster add quite a lot. Sure, some of the movements are a bit limited - the only one that really felt even slightly "off" was Sallah crawling out from the rubble. I think if you had cut that shot shorter by a hair it would have been better. A very minor quibble, though.

The direction is really great, again, especially given the limitations. I was delighted to see the green-screened close-ups in the car chase!! The first few shots of the chase were good, but I worried you wouldn't be able to get in too close to the action. And the - wow - suddenly we got the wonderful green screen work. Well done!

The voice work is generally very good. Indy's tone and inflections feel very Ford-esque to me. One minor complaint - there is a moment where Indy and Sallah are talking over each other and, for a few seconds, it seems as if Sallah has lost his British accent and sounds too much like Indy. It was hard to tell who was who - but that only lasted for a moment or two.

I do hope you can try to introduce some custom figures into the story later. The difference in scale between Indy and the Russian baddie character weren't too noticeable, given that the Ruskie was seated in the jeep, but it could be a minor issue down the line.

In terms of story and writing - it's a little early to tell too much. I'm wondering if this sequence is going to be a "stand alone" prologue segment like in the classic films or if you're just diving into the main story due to time considerations. Russians and Nazis working together in 1936? An intriguing idea, I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes. The dialogue is all fine, though I had to smile at the "you've seen too much" bit. It may be a cliche, but it's a fun cliche and it adds just the right dose of old fashioned camp to the proceedings.

Anyway, thanks so much for posting this. I know you said it might be a "while" before you finished the first chapter, but this was worth the way. I anxiously await the next installment!

In the meantime, I encourage all Raveners to check out and leave some feedback for what must have been a major undertaking! Thanks for sharing, Gonzo!!!

Thank you for your kind words.
The fact that people are enjoying it seriously gives me a great feeling.
Absolute fun.

This is the fourth time I've commented on this film. Lance pretty much covered it all. I'm almost thinking that we're still in the intro and the real story hasn't started up yet. But Russians and Nazis is quite a big bang for just an opening. I guess only one person can tell us what's going to happen next: Dr. Gonzo, via part 2. This I beg of you Raveners: Watch the film.
(from "your figures in action" thread)

Part 2 will be on its way eventually, say in a couple weeks. Once again thanks guys. The fact that you guys are watching it makes it worthwhile.

Okay, to put more praise into this dedicated thread, from "your figures in action":

I loved it Dr. Gonzo!

Lance said it all.

Indy was known for anachronisms, so a joint German-Russian operation prior to 1939 fits right in! Same goes for the colourful Nazi Jeep!

seriously, this film was one of the most anticipated I've seen in a while and so far only four people have commented on it (gonzo included)

I was away for a conference most of last week, so coming home and finding that part 1 of the movie posted was a fantastic ?welcome home? present. I have to echo what others have said. The voice acting, cinematography, special effects, and sets are all great. I don?t mind the scale difference between Indy and the Russian driver (Jurassic Park?s Robert Muldoon, I believe) too much; it reminds me of the Colonel Vogel boss fight from the old Indiana Jones SNES game, where Vogel was inexplicably way bigger than Indy. Great cliffhanger, and I am looking forward to part 2!

Amazing! I love the bluescreen effect in the background of the jeep chase! I can't wait for part 2! :D

Great work, Dr. That had to take painstakingly long to accomplish (esp. at that level of quality).

Can't wait to see part 2!

You did an excellent job with matching the background music with the action on screen (not an easy thing to do...taking music made for another scene and making it match your own). It was seemless and felt like John Williams created the music for your movie.

And the dioramas/settings...oh, man! How long did it take you to create these? They looked awesome, especially with all the lighting effects. I mean, it actually felt like Indy and Sallah were in a cave.

Great job!

I am happy the movie made your home coming all the sweeter. Yes that was Robert Muldoon, and yeah he is a bit bigger than Indy... chose him as sort of an over the top Pat Roach for the beginning.

Thank you sir. I tried to mimic the quasi-fake looking blue screen effects from the original trilogy... although some look a little too fake, but anyway we are talking about action figures here.

Thank you for the compliments Ska. Sound is everything and can be a deal breaker. I'm glad you noticed because it is a strange process. First I usually just cut the scene without any music, then add a track that seems appropriate, then re-cut my already cut scene to fit the cues... that last cut is a bit tricky. I've been doing this on and off every other weekend for the past year/year and a half now, and setting up those sets can some times take two or three days.

Thank you for all of your kind words guys. Like I've said before the fact that you actually watch and are enjoying what you see is truly gratifying to me.
Thank you.

I decided to just watch the first two minutes for now and just..

Wow. I mean, WOW!

The shot where Indy peeks thru the woods and comes into focus is just priceless. I love the integration of Williams into your scenes. It's incredible the mood you bring with primarily the use of "limited" effects. Less is indeed more!

Glad you sectioned off a thread on the fanwork board. Efforts like these belong more properly here!

Keep em coming! I had no idea that this little film was on its way, and now that I've seen part one I can honestly say I'm dying to know what happens next. All I can do is echo what everybody else has already said. The production quality is staggering!

YouNeverKnow, Stoo, Lance thank you. Comments like that coming from a respected Indiana Jones fan such as you Stoo mean a great deal. Lance you've always supported this project and really got me motivated to continue. YouNeverKnow thanks, I hope that you stay tuned.

Getting closer to the part 2 release. Mixing the sounds in "soundtrack pro" as we speak. Using as many authentic Ben Burt sounds as possible.
