Is a Christy's Fedora worth a look?

HI All, I currently have a real cheapy of a fedora and am looking at upgrading. I dont want to spend megabucks and see the Christy's fedora is available for about $160.

Does anyone here have any experience with it and what are your thoughts on it? Or is there anything else in that kind of price range that you prefer.

Thanks in advance

I have one among others. For me, it is a good fedora for nice weather. It would not hold up well in rough conditions. I use Akubra hats when it is bad outside in the late Fall/Winter/early Spring (rain/snow). I have others as well.

I recently bought a Christys but returned it and got a refund. It was ok, but felt really flimsy, looked like it was from a fancy dress shop rather than a 'real' hat, and the sizing was way off. I wear a 57 but this was just too small. Big disappointment when you consider the Christy's reputation. I agree with Glenville, The Akubra Fed IV is fantastic (at about £80 from Hats Direct it's great value, just beware that you may have to pay an additional 20 quid or so postage to those scamps at Royal Mail. Worth it though)
I'd also recommend, especially to those of us in the UK, Advintage Fedora, a German hat maker that specialises in the Indy fedora. I've had several from them and the service and range they offer is amazing; from the 'Junior' a factory made hat in rabbit felt for less than £50, ( A great one to start with, it was my first fedora and still going strong, it's the one I wear most,) to handmade beaver felt fedoras for upwards of £200. They will either send you the hat open crown for you to shape and bash to your own preference, or they'll bash it for you to the shape from any of the Indy films. In some cases even to the shape from a specific scene. I've put some photos of my AdVintage fedoras in the 'what fedora do you own' thread and in the thread 'My Indy costume, a work in progress', feel free to check em out and it's well worth a visit to the Advantage website.:hat:

Thanks guys, I looked at your hats last week drone33 and have already ordered a fed iv deluxe. Hopefully it'll be here next week.

That's great. Love to see some pics when it arrives. I have a standard Fed IV and would be interested in your thoughts on the deluxe...

In that price range, consider a Fed IV, Deluxe. I think you might be happier. I used to own some Christy's back when they made them in different colors: light sable, sable and cork. I liked the felt and color, but thought the sweat, ribbon and bow work could be improved.

In the $200 range, you touch the custom hats: Garrison and Advintage. You will find better felt, sweat band, ribbon and bow work, plus it is custom sized to fit you.
