Just out of curiosity, I checked and found a couple Archeology things that happened in 1957.
I thought this was cool:
"The statue of Laocoön and His Sons, also called the Laocoön Group, is a monumental marble sculpture, now in the Vatican Museums, Rome....In 1957, however, the original right arm of Laocoön himself was found in a builder's yard in Rome..." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laocoön_and_his_Sons
There was also a nice piece of pottery found in Thailand. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ban_Chiang from a Neolithic culture.
