Hey all!

Just wanted to share some gear info with you. I have been working with leather and creating authentic reproduction costumes for most of my life and have now (thanks to a lot of encouragement from friends and family) decided to take it to a higher level. Hence, here I am on IndgyGear, the best place to announce my new venture.

Indy's Bag straps:

First off, I have now purchased reproduction straps for some of my MK VII's from most of the vendor's I'm sure you're familiar with. I did this for comparison's sake and have been able to take my findings and produce what I believe to be the best all around bag strap for Indy fans out there.
Before I say more, you can check out this preliminary page I've put up.

<A HREF="http://homepage.mac.com/wadeegan/IndyBagStrap/">Indy Bag Strap Page</A>

The official site is still in the works and will offer more details and photos as well as other authentic items and complete packages (belts, bag and strap, whip holder, and gloves) for those who want authentic reproductions that are tough and ready for real rugged use.

I've chosen a 9 oz 1" wide 1/8" thick latigo leather for the strap, belt, and whip holder. Making these extremely tough and good looking as well. What's more, I can make the strap XXL i.e. up to 80" in length so that larger and taller Indy fans can have a perfect fit for there gear. In comparing my 72" strap to the leading strap out there (Todd's Costumes) there is an obvious quality difference in favor of my straps. I dunked both straps in water, ran them through several strength tests (hanging on them and so forth) and in the end, the other strap not only suffered texture issues, it stretched almost 7" and shows irregular cut lines throughout the length of the strap and is thinner than at the start of the tests. My strap is the same 72" length as before the tests, suffered no stretching or thinning, and is even more soft and looks 'broken in' perfectly. Which is what I believe we all are looking for.

I have been using these leather straps as camera case and instrument straps for some time and have never had one break or wear out. So, if you have purchased your authentic MK VII and love it as much as I love mine, you will love this strap as a perfect addition to not only the authentic Indy costume, but as a tough, usable leather strap ready for real adventure.

Sizing of the straps are as follows (of course this is just a basic guide)

To place the buckle of the strap in the middle of the chest as in the films, with the bag top at belt level, the strap should be cut to the same length in inches as your height in inches. Example: I am 6'4" (76 in.)tall and have a slight belly, so my strap was cut to 75" (allow for slight stretch over the years) and places the buckle in the perfect position.

Anyway... I hope that all you Indy fans out there who are looking for the best all around accessories for your Indy gear read this and even pass on the information to others. I look forward to hearing from anyone with questions or who just want to 'talk shop' and keep an eye out for my official website where the authentic items as well as great reproductions will be offered. Including: bags, straps, web belts (each film version), gun belts, holsters, and whip holders.

I am very glad to be a part of this community and to help keep the Indiana Jones legacy going strong for all of us who love the films and real life adventure. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Thank you,

Wade Egan

Some photos

Here's a little comparison photo and some detail.

Comparison w/ another strap:

<a href="http://s27.photobucket.com/albums/c151/wadesongs/?action=view&current=IMG_3211.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c151/wadesongs/IMG_3211.jpg" border="0" alt="Strap comparison"></a><br><br>Notice the irregularities in the leather cut and thickness of the other strap.<br><br><a href="http://s27.photobucket.com/albums/c151/wadesongs/?action=view&current=IMG_3203.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c151/wadesongs/IMG_3203.jpg" border="0" alt="other strap underside and irregularities"></a>

The same buckle was used here on both for comparison sake. I have several buckle choices depending on what you are looking for. Be it from one of the films, or a custom brass buckle of your own all you need do is choose.

Strap Pricing etc.

Here is the price and order info.:

For ordering a strap, here are some helpful questions:

1. How tall are you?
2. Do you want the buckle in the middle of your chest with the bag at waist level as in the movies?
3. Or slung lower?
4. Would you like a Raiders style square buckle or the Last Crusade style roller buckle?

On the whip holder:
1. What length whip do you have?
2. Are you using a mil spec 1.5" web belt to hang it?
3. Do you use it? Or just hang it as the costume accessory?

I can make the whip holder with a thong which acts as a lock to keep the snap from being accidentally pulled open by kids, dogs, a fence, or some drunk guy in a bar (actual experience) for an added $3.00.

I don't have any whip holder photos as of yet. I am expecting new leather shipments next week then I will make a few and photograph them for my website. They are made from the same quality latigo in the slide on belt style with a heavy duty brass snap closure. A lot of the whip holders available use cheap snaps from craft stores which will loosen with age. I use heavy duty tarp and boat top snaps so it really secures the whip and lasts forever.

The strap price will depend on the length.
Example:

65" (standard) strap $25.00
72" XXL strap $29.00
73-80" straps $34.00
Whip holders $16.00

65" strap w/ whip holder $36.00
72" strap w/ whip holder $40.00
73" + strap w/ holder $45.00

S & H to US $10.00 flat

I accept PayPal only and ship using USPS or UPS regular ground. Yes, I will ship internationally and will quote prices per request.

I'd consider one, but when you say $10 shipping on an item that costs $30-$40 it's a bit much for me. If you stuffed one into a padded enveloped and sent it regular mail it would be under $3 and charge $5 to cover your costs. For $10 I would expect Priority Mail and insurance and it would still be high.

Not trying to be an ass as I know everyone likes (and needs) to get an extra buck or two for the shipping costs/time spent, but it really makes this a pricey item.

Shipping

I actually tried to do the shipping in that manner. However it totally depends on where you live and how you want it sent. I'm willing to work with shipping but it just seemed easier to put down $10 and hash it out during the order process rather than explain a confusing shipping policy. Generally, you are correct though. I do put it in a little box so as to cut down on any imprints from shipping and send it priority, and most places in the US can be shipped to for around $6.00 or so.

Another thing to point out is that I am just starting out with this and these are introductory prices. I'm sure that once enough people have seen and touched my staps they will find this a bargain for what you get. You can compare with any of the leading strap makers and their shipping costs. In fact, I encourage that highly. (y)

Thanks for putting that out there though. It's good to voice the issues with the little things to help clear everything up.

Hi. I e-mailed you a week or so with some questions. I will probably be picking up one of your straps eventually. But right now I'm forcing myself to not spend any money and making due with what I have. But your stuff looks like it is great quality.

Bag Straps

OK! :whip:
I've had quite a few sales now from members here and a lot on eBay, so I should have some reviews coming up pretty quick.

I'm going to run a special for everyone from The Raven. (y)

For a limited time, anyone who mentions The Raven or COW when purchasing a strap will receive a FREE WHIP HOLDER!! ($16 value)

The holder is a classic 'LC' slip on holder and is very screen accurate.

Also, for those of you who need a great whip holder, I have just completed a NEW DESIGN which is adjustable and extremely strong. So if you use your whip and don't want it slipping, this holder should be on your list. Photos of the new holder will be up shortly. Comic Con is coming up and I haven't been able to keep anything in stock. I'll have a huge stock of 65"-75" straps and both whip holders by late next week. Raiders, TOD, and LC/KOTCS buckles are now available as strap options as well.

Thanks,

W.E.
