Music Gear

Anyway here is what my Gibson G101 organ sounds like. Please excuse the quality of the bootleg and the music itself as it was done a few weeks ago after we all had more than a few adult beverages. Also the volume turned out somewhat lower, so you may have to turn it up.

...and speed it up!;)

Sounds nice, always feels good to acquire new gear congratulations!

Also, the idea of posting tunes is a great addition too! Been converting old tapes, thinking of uploading/posting some now.

So I can blame YOU later!

@Gonzo: That sounded great!(y) Now that you have the organ, you guys could be a Doors cover band.
.

Me and a couple of my buddies are starting a Doors cover band. I'm going to handle lead vocals, but I also play the keyboard. Kind of ironic, I can play just about every doors song but Love Me Two Times.

Peter Frampton Recovers Prized Missing Guitar After More Than 30 Years

frampton.jpg

Remarkably, Peter Frampton has been reunited with one of his most prized guitars more than 30 years after it was believed to be lost forever.

The guitar was a highly sentimental acquisition when Frampton originally got it as a gift from an individual named Mark Mariana. Frampton had borrowed the guitar from Mariana when Humble Pie played a show at the Fillmore West. After the show, Frampton tried to convince Mariana to sell him the instrument and was surprised when Mariana said instead that he wanted to give it to him at no cost.

Frampton used the 1954 Gibson Les Paul on two Humble Pie albums and also his classic ‘Frampton Comes Alive’ release. In 1980, a cargo plane carrying Frampton’s equipment crashed on its way to Panama.

While all of the instruments were thought to have been destroyed years ago in the crash, two fans helped to spearhead a search that uncovered the guitar on the Dutch island of Curacao. (It is us, or is this sounding like an ‘Indiana Jones’ movie?)

With the assistance of the Curacao Tourist Board, the beloved instrument was located in the hands of an unnamed individual and arrangements were made to return the guitar – which had also been used additionally on sessions with Harry Nillson and George Harrison – to the possession of Frampton, who was overjoyed when the axe was given to him in Nashville in December. Experts at Gibson confirmed it was indeed the original missing guitar and Frampton humbly expressed his gratitude to those who had kept the beacon of hope illuminated.

“I am still in a state of shock, first off, that the guitar even exists, let alone that it has been returned to me,” Frampton said in a statement. “I know I have my guitar back, but I will never forget the lives that were lost in this crash. I am so thankful for the efforts of those who made this possible … And, now that it is back I am going insure it for two million dollars and it’s never going out of my sight again! It was always my No. 1 guitar and it will be reinstated there as soon as possible — some minor repairs are needed.”

@Stoo Can you play the banjo??? I hear they're somewhat different to play. That's an impressive collection! My friend has the sunburst Telecaster too. Nice.

So I'm trying to inspire some others to get some of their licks on here!

It's been a few months since I got my 66' organ, and I feel like I really know her now. Right now I just played a little 5 min Doors medley including:
When the Music's Over (intro), Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar), Backdoor man, L'america (intro), Roadhouse Blues, Waiting For the Sun, People Are Strange (solo), Light My Fire (solo)...

...There's also a little coda at the end just for STOO!

Gonzo, your medley is superb and totally captures the Ray Manzarek sound. Fantastic replication and I can see why you're in love with your instrument. It sounds spot on and you are adept at the Doors tunes! The final WHO coda dedicated to me was a nice treat. You've managed to manually reproduce the sound of an ARP sequencer! And that is no small task. Hats off to you, Mr. Chad.:hat:

I cannot play the banjo very well. It's mainly meant for finger picking and I'm a rhythm, chord-playing guy so the banjo remains unexplored potential.

Who else here plays music? Speak up...:whip:

There's a repeat percussion tab on the organ and I thought... what the hell, let's give it a shot.

I'm not really sure I would classify as a musician, I take lessons and I can play, It's just not easy for me to pick one up and "Kick out the jams" so to speak.

I play the violin and the harp though . . .

You know, this thing.

I've performed for graduations and other events.

Seems like a lot of guitar people here, my Dad's kind of a collector, used to do rock band stuff.

I don't.

Yes it is the same model Stoo, well one of them... the Gibson G101 was known as Manzarek's "road organ". In about 90% of their live performances it was the G101.
The_Doors_in_Copenhagen_1968.jpg

His first organ was the Vox Continental...

...the keys kept breaking on it so he switched over to the Gibson which he really dug. When you think of the "live Doors sound" it was the G101.

The percussion tab is interesting, they only really used it on the song "Waiting For the Sun"... along with some other electronic tweaks.

Come on folks let's get some music samples in here!

In hopes of trying to persuade some Raven heads out there to post some of their music I'm posting this bootleged recording of me singing with my friends The Burn. It was July 3rd and they asked me up for a tribute to Jim Morrison who had died in Paris 41 years ago on that date.

Please forgive the audio, it was recorded on a hand held tape recorder.

Come on let's get some tracks from you guys on here!

Playing music professionally and for fun for 2 years. 2 Gibson Les Pauls, Schecter PT, Variax 300, 6 or 7 various acoustics, Epiphone bass, Logic Pro 9 with more money in plug-ins than I care to admit.

I do mixing and mastering locally in my studio.

Here is my latest song. It's not done and this is NOT the final mix but it's a start. I wrote everything and played everything. A very good friend did the vocals.

I play mainly play the keyboard by ear, mostyl with the organ or piano sound. The Doors were my major influence, so Dr.Gonzo, it's awesome seeing another Doors fan. I do play some of the harmonica, and a little bit of guitar.
In October I'm moving to a different city where me and some buddies are actually going to start a Doors/CCR cover band until we start bringing our own original tunes together. I'm going to handle the vocals for that. Wish I had some tunes I could put up for you guys, but we don't have much right now.

A good start on a "Gear" thread would be to list what you have!

I just unloaded a few effects pedals...just wasn't using them.

A digital delay, super chorus, and an acoustic simulator.

I have a fender strat Mexican built and a basic Marshall amp with two channels. No pedals yet
What kinda pedals you thinking about getting?
What kind of sound do you want to achieve?

Anyway, for myself I recently got an old 1960's Electro Voice 676 dynamic cardioid microphone (in most circles it's known as the Morrison mic)

she's a beauty...

This may not be much of a contribution to this topic, but yes. Yes it is. I imagine it's sound is just as good!
