Avatar: The Future of a Promising Franchise
My sister and I just finished watching J.J. Abrams Star Trek for like our or at lest my fourth or fifth time and toward the end of the movie my thoughts began to float back to Pandora and the amazing new futuristic subject of space exploration as expressed in James Cameron's strange and abnormal world as presented in the "cowboys and indians" style Avatar success that he has assembled. I've been reading various conflicting reports regarding the future of Avatar. One such rumor was that there might NOT even be a sequel and that just annoys me to no end because THERE MUST BE A SEQUEL. Avatar deserves one along with J.J. Abrams masterful Star Trek. However recently James Cameron did discuss the possibility of a sequel to Avatar and to my disappointment he said that "if" there were to be a sequel that it would not be called "Avatar" but rather "Na'vi."
To be quite honest that just wiped me out. How could you not call it Avatar? I mean, this is beginning to become ridiculous! The whole product line and movie are known as Avatar and earlier Cameron said that the sequel would be a PREQUEL and not a sequel. Cameron and George Lucas are sometimes HARD to follow and it's really getting annoying.
Nevertheless I admire both of them and I do hope we get both an Avatar sequel and prequel. There is also talk of an Avatar television series and I'd also watch that if it ever becomes a reality. My only quible is that I fear it might go south like Stargate has with it's lackluster live-action television shows. However if it is to be animated than I hope that James Cameron will use the team behind the Marvel Hulk vs Thor movie to animate an Avatar TV series or the team behind Green Lantern: First Flight.
