Friday the 13th Remake

So as some of you might know there's yet another 80's horror icon being remade, and this time it's our favorite homicidal goalie, Jason Voorhees!! Platinum Dunes is producing this film, with Marcus Nispel the director of the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake taking the helm. As well as a Friday remake, there's also a Nightmare on Elm Street reboot starting filming soon. First Leatherface, then Michael Myers, now Jason and Freddy, and I'm pretty sure Pinhead is getting a fresh start as well with Clive Barker behind it.

So, what do you guys think about all these remakes, are you looking forward to them or dreading them?

By the way this is the new Jason Voorhees for all those interested, he's a stunt/actor/ named Derek mears and he played a mutant in The Hills Have Eyes II remake.

I think this is going to be awful, frankly. Remakes of 70s/80s slasher flicks always seem to lose the campy quality of the originals, which is what made them so endearing. Though a Kevin Bacon cameo would be sweet.

I'd already heard about the Hellraiser, and Nightmare on Elm Street reboots -- not sure how I feel about them. I'm worried that they'll be too gory.

Eh, to be honest, I'm not really a fan of the original. Yeah, it's classic slasher stuff, but I didn't find it be an exceptional film. And the remake of Halloween just pales in comparison to the original, but isn't detrimental to it, so I really don't have care if it's remade. Nothing to sweat over, I guess.

It will be curious to see how this film does at the Box Office in comparison to Rob Zombie's Halloween, which did pretty well, but not as good as the 2003 TCM remake. None of the FT13th films were classics by any means, and the first one was just one of many slasher films to feed off of Halloween's popularity. Halloween on the other hand was a classic film that didn't need to be remade, whereas with FT13th I wouldn't mind a reboot.

As for ANOES, that could be left alone along with Hellraiser. I wouldn't doubt that a Phantasm remake wil be in the works too, now that I think about it.

Zir you're right, the campiness is what makes these films so great and fun to watch, not slick FX and a fast cut music video appearance!

Niteshade007, to say Zombie's "reimagining"(LOL!!!) pales in comparison is an understatement! The original is Hitchockian in its quality, and well Zombie's is...  When I first saw it I wanted it to be good, I convinced myself as I did with the Star Wars prequels that it wasn't half bad. Then I waited a while and rewatched it, and well... I don't know what the hell I was thinking!?

One more thing that's pretty comical is that Michael Myers got HUGE for Zombie's film(a 6ft10 in ex pro wrestler), yet Jason who's usually a mutant mongoloid got smaller! How does that work? LOL!!

NICE POST! I have posted many times how big of a fan I am of the first 4 Friday the 13ths! I grew up with these movies (I was not allowed to see them, which is probably why I liked them so much) and still watch the first 4 every October (without the girlfriend as she HATES them).

I doubt the new one will be able to touch the fond spot I have with the original, but I am VERY excited to see it. I also feel it will do very, very well in the box office. If the lame Saw episodes continue to do well, think of what a proven franchise will do. I am very excited! I hope they can capture some of the (unintentional) campy feel of the originals!

(Also, some zombies would be cool!)

I'm looking forward to it as well, and I'm hoping they stick to the tone of Parts 3 and 4. Those were the best to me with the creepiest of all the Jasons, before he turned into a zombie. As a kid, zombie Jason never scared me as much as the freaky, bald headed, maniac, human Jason. From the looks of this Derek Mears guy, they seem to be taking that route!(y)

Enough already. I can't stand slasher flicks. Too morbid for me. They don't really make any money do they?

Really old news. **** Michael Bay.
Not really!!

The fact that a remake is being made is old news, but it's new news in that they've got official characters cast and the production is beginning! Up until the last few weeks the whole project was just a big ?.

I'm going to use my psychic powers to see into the future and find out whether or not this film is going to su-

oh wait, that's right. You don't need psychic powers to figure that one out.

LOL!! It most likely will, but I'm still gonna see it when it comes out. The Friday movies have sucked for a long time now, and need a reboot. The last 5 have been awful, and the 6 before that had hits and misses. Growing up I liked parts 3, 4, and 6, with 1, 2, and 5 being so-so. It's the same for the Halloween and NOES films, 1 or 2 good flicks and a bunch of crappy sequels!

i hear its not a remake there expanding from parts 2-4 and how would it be a remake if Pamala Voorhees isnt the killer? so thats a pretty good sign its not a remake and jason also starts the movie off with his mask and in part 3 he killed shelly for it so i think its not going to be that much of a remake

True it's more of an update/reimagining/sequel! LOL
God that was complicated!

The fact the Mrs. Voorhees isn't the killer is great, because what would be the point, we'll all know it's her all along and the twist ending would be ruined! Also, Jason isn't Jason without his mask, so setting it between parts 2-4 is a good thing. I'm impressed, you're quite the fan, not many people would know Shelly is where the mask came from!

I'm not really a fan of Hillybilly Jason! That was a good episode, but Jason's creepiness factor jumped exponentially when the mask was introduced.
